My car doesn't have wings, rotors or aircraft engines. If I pump it full of jet fuel, will it fly?.... Sorry, just had to..  tongue.gif. To answer your question, yes you'd be stuck with 1080p max.

If can get 4K like that, don't even need 4K TV, just stream 4K content and use back my old CRT TV biggrin.gif

Doesn't matter to me, I am going to cancel when trial ends anyway. The movies available at Netflix are outdated and besides I already have most of them anyway in full HD and 5.1 sound.

Currently Netflix with my wireless hotspot 3Mbps , I can only get SD streaming and only stereo sound because I am using Browser to watch.

Even KODI , with some movies, I can at least get 5.1 sound on my Optical cable to my AVR.

Out of curiosity I decided to try out Netflix's Dolby 5.1 sound on my PC.

Since Netflix has a dedicated application for Win 8 (without the need for using browser), I booted to my Windows 8 (My PC is Dual Boot Win7 + 8), downloaded and installed the App, and set my Windows Default sound to SPDIF output (connected to my AVR).

Then started the Netflix app, and tested one of the movies with DD 5.1 and compared it with the same title (in MKV) with DD5.1 on my Media player. (Both showed Dolby Digital 5.1 on AVR as expected)

However I noticed the Netflix 5.1 sound was inferior quality. The surround is much softer and less clear. My guess is that Netflix re-encoded the Dolby sound to lesser quality to save bandwidth.

Your guess is correct and not just the sound, the picture quality as well..  The highest quality Netflix can provide is no direct match against a Blu-ray disc or properly encoded rip. However, the end product also relies on the post-processing done by display screens (Monitor, TVs, etc), media players and sound systems.

Since my AVR is the same for both bitstream sources , it shouldn't be brought in because any post processing, will be constant for both sources.

I'm using a Sharp 630x with native Netflix App built into its Android TV and optical out to Anthem Mrx 500 AV Receiver with 5.1 speakers.

Just hooked it up yesterday, able to watch 4k Netflix with Maxis 10Mbps, but how do you know which show is able to allow 5.1 ?
*
If you have your Sharp TV already setup to output sound to Optical and your TV is a supported device by Netflix, then whenever you play a movie/TV series that has 5.1 sound, there will be an additional sound option available to select between Stereo and DD 5.1 + (the Language option at the bottom right of the screen).

I got it to work already, tried Narcos at 4k and DD5.1. I didn't have a selection but in the movie title it says 4k 5.1. I guess it's auto detect?
*
Does your AVR show 5.1? If it does, than everything is ok.

The language option I am referring to is already there from the beginning (somewhere at the bottom right of the screen).

It's just that if you have 5.1 setup, the extra selection will appear within that option, to switch between Stereo and 5.1)

Then again I am using Windows app for Netflix, maybe Android app is different.

a quick question on payment-refund.

i notice in my credit card bill a netflix charge of rm51 (uhd pack) already. i canceled it a week ago but there is no refund yet.

anybody knows if it is normal process to be charged first, followed by a refund?
*
Better counter check with them while still early. I remember when signing up, they mentioned that you will not be charged until after the first month.

live chat with them, credit on the way.

apparently, they keep your information for 10 months.

so, resubscribing will be a breeze during that time.

Nope  smile.gif. Anyway I wouldn't know if they tried to deduct or not. I found out from the bank staff, in order to use my Debit Card for online transactions, I have got to call their bank centre to get some  sort of approval or activation first.

I was using the trial ' unblock-us' before, but it expired a week ago. I then switched to a free VPN , and so far I can still watch U.S shows till now.

There are free VPNs too.

The last time I used DNS didn't work because I was using Hotspot service, probably Service Provider prevented. So I am using some free VPN now. Just some inconvenience waiting in queue (at startup about 3 min).

I got to say, on my PC using my LED/LCD TV as monitor, comparing Iflix in SD and Netflix in SD , I actually prefer Iflix quality.

It looks closer to 720P although it's supposed to be SD, compared to Netflix SD which look inferior on my 3Mbps wireless connection.

I guess Netflix compromises the Video quality in a more prudent manner on slower connection compared to Iflix. Both are of the same smoothness though.

Yup.. Keyword.... Also, are you on Netflix's HD plan? Cuz there is an SD plan... Netflix recommended speeds. Netflix prides itself on best results, hence higher minimum requirements. However, if you are able to optimize your network better.. There have been reports of better netflix performance..

With my slow connection, of course I chose the SD plan. I was comparing SD for both Netflix and Iflix, and I prefer Iflix anytime.

To my eyes, both Iflix sd and netflix sd on PC come out about the same.

I have also tried both in sd on my 4K tv. Netflix comes out better.

Of course, in HD or uhd, Netflix is excellent, as good as any full 1080p video with dd5.1, better than the 1080i of hypptv.

No HD for iflix for now... maybe it will come after a year, when all free trials are over!
*
Yours is 30 mbps line, both will likely look the same when testing in SD. Mine however is 3mbps (10 x slower) blush.gif

The point I was making was on slow connections, I feel Netflix decreases the quality more than Iflix.

Is there a way to watch netflix without VPN ? ( I need to skip VPN subcription cost , got too many services that I subscribed to )
*
Since Netflix is already available locally in Malaysia of course you don't need VPN to watch the local version of Netflix.

However the local version has much less content compared to U.S version, that's where using VPN for U.S comes in.

My Netflix was already expired , so was going to download the 720P torrent.

But now reading the reviews, don't want to bother.

Netflix seem to be releasing bad exclusives , a perfect example the recent ridiculous 'The Ridiculous 6'

Unlike Iflix, Netflix require you to enter your Credit Card details for Free Trial. Unless you use a different Credit Card No. , fat hopes biggrin.gif

hey guys, anyone encountered an issue where Netflix found out that you are using a Proxy/DNS? Mine happened last night on my Sony TV. Anyone encountered this?
