Looking at Dell Inspiron 7559 at the moment. Should I get the i7 model for gaming/Lightroom/Photoshop? Or the i5 model is more than enough?

Notice the HDD is only 5400RPM, will that affect gaming/photoshop?

Or should I get the Asus GL552VW with SSD?
*
Get an i7 model is more advisable than getting the i5 one (for the sake of Lightroom and Photoshop). The rendering speed is so much faster with i7. There is an empty m.2 sata slot available in the 7559, you can always add in SSD when you feel like that HDD reading speed is not fast enough. biggrin.gif

Hi guys,

For student, which notebook model best for under budget RM2500?

Mostly surf internet, some media (youtube, videos, music) and light gaming only. Female user, not too heavy in weight.

Prefer Asus.

Thanks! rclxms.gif

What about this one? But this is 2.1kg. biggrin.gif
Asus A455LF-WX063T A-Series 14" Laptop/ Notebook (i5-5200U, 4GB, 1TB, NV GT930M, W10H)

If you can top up a bit more, then you can get a much better one. This one is extremely light with decent performance. 1.2kg only. biggrin.gif
Asus ZENBOOK UX305FA-FC197H 13.3" Laptop/ Notebook (M-5Y10, 4GB, 128GB SSD, Integrated, W8.1)

Hope for a reply from you guys.  rclxms.gif

Hi there, the Zenbook is really very attractive. How much is this particular model roughly? smile.gif

Should be around RM2.7k. You can always bargain the price as you can decline the free gifts. Usually they will give you around RM100 discount. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(LazyTongue @ Feb 14 2016, 01:10 PM)
Hi, Need experts here to recommend a new laptop/ultrabook. I am bad in seeing computer spec.

1. Preferred Brand - any brand that fits the criteria, easy to find places to repair/good service center.
2. Budget - RM2k below
3. Usage - I have my ipad already. just for normal usage with keyboard for typing, if I wan to do heavy re-searching and putting them down as notes, I prefer to use a laptop than a tablet. no gaming
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 13 inch should be fine.

Other preference, I may want to travel around with my laptop, prefer it to be light with good battery, good wifi, if possible to have fast startup? any future proof spec? tongue.gif

Thanks for your advise & suggestion. Looking forward
*
If you are really interested in getting one laptop with good after sales service, you have to consider Dell.
However, Dell laptops are usually more than 2k. Consider the following model. It is around RM2.3k. It is very light and slim. 1.5kg only. Windows 8.1/10 have a faster boot up speed than Windows 7. So, no worries. biggrin.gif

Unless you really want a less than 10 seconds boot up speed, consider upgrade SSD. biggrin.gif

Why is the acer v nitro better? I researched and i only know that acer has better screen. Lenovo has better performance, speaker, cooling system
*
Yes, Lenovo user here. I couldn't agree more on the speaker and the keyboard part. The design of the keyboard is really comfortable and ergonomic and the JBL speakers are really powerful. However, the cooling system is not as good as the V nitro. Lenovo aftersales service is getting worse, unlike the past 3 years where the service was excellent and fast. I once replaced the touchpad last year, took 3 weeks for that. sweat.gif

pandera999 sifu also did mention that Acer V nitro has a better graphic card on the other hand. Moreover, Acer has been working harder on the aftersales service since the end of last year. So, it is definitely more reliable brand than Lenovo.

Hey DS_Legacy, Thanks.
Can I ask how is the service for Dell after the warranty ends? Thinking that I might not be always using my laptop, hmm...maybe it wouldn't have too much problem. haha. then what happen when the warranty ends?

If I would take out the good after sales service, what is the secondary choice you would suggest me?
*
Dell is known for their superb service for years already. But if the warranty ends, you definitely need to pay to get your laptop fixed. biggrin.gif

What about this laptop? The specs is better than the Dell one. But if you really gonna use the laptop for typing and surfing only, then I suppose an i3 is sufficient already. biggrin.gif

Acer Aspire E5-474G-50URb 14" Laptop/ Notebook (i5-6200U, 4GB, 1TB, NV 920M, W10H) RM2.1k

Thanks for replying smile.gif sooo Acer v nitro > Lenovo y700? Im having a hard time deciding because i had bad experience with Acer. Y700 15" has the specs with 128gb ssd and 8gb ram. I only see 4gb ram on the acer v nitro specs. Will it be costly to add another 4gb ddr4 ram?
*
Well, you can nego with some dealers to upgrade the ram for you for free but you have to decline all the free-gifts in return. Nego always works to me. That's how i got my 8gb ram biggrin.gif

Looking at Inspiron 15 7000 Series and HP Pavilion Gaming Notebook - 15-ak031tx, would they be able to support games like fallout 4 (on low graphic setting of course)

Also any recommendation for 14 inch laptop (gaming and for work, mainly power point, excel and word)?
*
you need at least a gtx960m to run fallout 4 on low settings.

i dont get you
u series is ?
actually i feels like getting the i5 instead cheaper by 1k
*
Most common i7 in the market comes with either a quad core or dual core. U series = dual core. Dual core is more power saving compare to the quad core ones. biggrin.gif

For e.g,
U series = i7-6500U, i7-6600U
HQ series = i7-6700HQ

There are even more efficient processor than the i7-6700HQ such as i7-6820HK. icon_idea.gif

But at least he take initiative to ask. icon_idea.gif
Last time when i was a noob, i thought get an i7 = best bang of buck liao. sweat.gif sweat.gif

hmmm true i memang dont know anything bout these codes
not my field
hence asking experts here
so if tat range u guys wld recommend the dell instead?
*
Performance wise, i7 > i5 > core M > i3
Core wise, HQ > U

But U series processor means that it is towards power saving and lower battery life.
If you have the budget, the current best bang of buck would be the Dell Inspiron 7559. I would say decent in almost every aspect. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(lk3 @ Feb 22 2016, 09:42 PM)
thanks man
but if budghet is below 2500?

Asus K401U-BFR011T 14" Laptop/ Notebook (i5-6200U, 4GB, 1TB, NV GT940M, W10H) 2.5k/-
Asus A456U-FWX023T A-Series 14" Laptop/ Notebook (i5-6200U, 4GB, 1TB, NV GT930M, W10H) 2.2k/-

Since your budget is 2.5k, you can get Asus A456U, and upgrade ram/invest on a cooler pad for a long run. Whether your laptop is gonna last long or not, it is solely depending on the owner. Ventilation, maintenance and etc are very important. pandera999 gor gor has a 7 years Acer laptop that can still plays dota. brows.gif

IIRC, you did mention to hunt for K501 before. But not sure which K501 model you mentioned though, but anyway, K501U comes with a better graphic performance than the one i recommended. But personally, i really do think that 8gb ram is a minimum requirement for windows 10.

Hope this helps a bit. biggrin.gif
