Please help me on deciding my first laptop. Me is once a desktop fag, then turn into PS4 fag. Now wanna return to PC Mustard Race due to work commitment.
1. Preferred Brand: Not a brandfag. Just prefer brand with superb warranty policy 2. Budget: MYR 5k or SGD 1.7k 3. Usage: - Dual Boot (Windows + Ubuntu) - VMWare (Windows + Redhat Server) - Embedded Linux / Embedded C Projects - Digital Design projects (VHDL or Verilog) - Circuit Design Softwares (ORCAD PCSpice / Proteus) - Rasp-Pi development - Dota2 and CSGO, plus some PC exclusive game. Those that didn't exist at PS4 4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 15" or 17" 5. Other preference: - Intel + Nvidia combo. Not into AMD since I already have an AMD combo desktop at my hometown - 8gb x 2 RAM. VMWare kills lots of RAM - Preloaded with original Windows. #SupportOriginal Planned to buy this around February. Maybe during CNY Sales... |

Looking for a laptop. Any recommendation?
1. Preferred Brand: any brand 2. Budget: <4K 3. Usage: Work and gaming. 4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 14" or 15" 5. Other preference: It will be replacement laptop. My current laptop is company provided, specs are in my sig.(ACER V-Nitro). I already handed my 1 month job-change notice to company. and they denied my request to buy that laptop from them. I got used to fast laptop and really good performance, so I dont think when changing to new company I can get that same feeling. prefer if that laptop have dual slot (meaning ssd+hdd), no dvd also can. |

Dell 15 7000 series. RM3999 with GTX960M 4Gb, 15.6". Not very sure about the SSD slot, it come with hybrid. Total price including what I pay for extra warranty+ssd is rm3800 something (Jan 2015), now updated pricing after GST and RM-fuckup is RM4400 something..... and that is not including extra warranty and no SSD.... QUOTE(Ebony & Ivory @ Jan 4 2016, 06:32 PM) thanks for your feedback. I owned a dell before and agree that the warranty is quite good. however the price looks quite steep for similar setup, still considering the pros and cons.how does HP differ in this warranty aspect? i stay about 5mins away from hp towers. is that the location to sent for warranty claims? it does say onsite warranty for HP. 1. Preferred Brand: Asus
2. Budget: around RM1.5k 3. Usage: Word Processing, Web Browsing, some Photo Editing 4. Preferred laptop/screen size : 14 / 15" Looking for a laptop for a friend. She doesn't need high spec laptop, though I'd prefer if it's at least an Intel Core, if possible, of course. Thanks in advance. This post has been edited by Serendipity123: Jan 4 2016, 07:15 PM |

Hi Sifus,
Thought of getting a laptop around 2.5k. 1. Preferred Brand: I have few in mind: Toshiba/Dell/Asus/Lenovo but with good reason I welcome all sorts of recommendations. 2. Budget: Around 2.5k. Can re-think with good reasons. 3. Usage: Surfing/Playing high def(including bluray) quality movies(sometime through extended screen)/SideUsage -> Minor gaming:Dota2/D3. 4. Preferred laptop/screen size: Will look at 14" first. If needed, probably 13" or 15". Full HD if possible. 5. Other preference: a. Durability (I am stil having Toshiba = durability kinda thought, though Satelite design sucks nowaday) b. Good/Latest spec possible on Processor/RAM/Storage (not preferred SSD, who knows when it might die on me) which may affect the response of the laptop - have to say this as right now it jerks while typing with company laptop =.= really setting me off sometime. c. Good warranty / after sale service (thats why I have Dell in mind) d. Back lit keyboard e. Comes with Wins 10 Side story: 1) Helped a friend of mine on searching for 2k budget laptop and I got these: -> Satellite L40-B202GX (PSKQEL-005001) -> Lenovo G50-80 i5-5200U ver -> Asus X455LF/LJ Should be slightly better than these. 2) List so far: -> Toshiba L50-A100 (Pro:740M/Cons:15"/Wins8/2.4kg) -> Asus K401UB (6th Gen) (Pro:14"/1.65kg/Wins10/Cons:940M) Thanks !
