TL;DR ....

I'm merely suggesting he reconsider his choice on holding facility.

He can transform his portfolio in T+2, if he pays.
*
YES,..i know you meant well, notworthy.gif notworthy.gif I think readers felt your good intention too....
I am sure, he will have to seek to "pay" for a managed portfolio...if his new transformed portfolio failed to achieve his intention this time....and after the free one from FSM-CIS also cannot erect his IRR/ROI to his desired level... rolleyes.gif

we can see how his portfolio is doing when he posted them in the beginning of each month (usually).

btw, yklooi,....this new portfolio composition ...you buat sendiri or FSM-CIS assisted/suggested one?

I'm not sure how he, or anyone else, has built/manage their portfolio, but here's a cost efficient no brainer. eg :

1. start with a simple allocation - 50% eqt - 50 fi
2. break into local foreign - 25% local eqt, 25% foreign eqt, 25% local fi, 25% foreign fi
3. buy 1-3 funds for each category
- local eqt = 25% ==> EISC 5% EIEI 10% KGF 10%
- local fi => EIB 25%
- .....
4. rebalance to initial allocation every 6-12 months

The work is all front loaded - deciding on asset allocation, deciding on which fund to put in.

Once its decided, there will be no "switching" of entire funds in and out of the portfolio, unless something has fundamentally changed. ie : personal exposure/risk, sudden capital injection/redemption, change of manager, change of benchmark etc.

This simple strategy keeps rebalancing cost very low ... about 0.5%pa. if there is a 25% portfolio turnover, which will almost never happen IF the portfolio is built correctly.

...

Heres a simulation I did with arbitrary funds
- 4 funds
- balanced 50/50 portfolio
- 10 years historical
- annual rebalance

Attached Image

- 8/10 years +ve returns
- 7/10 years double digit returns
- worst annual loss -10%
- time invested : 1 week initial, 6 hours annually
- rebalancing fees over 10 years <5% (guesstimate)

Edit : My mistake CAGR is actually 10.92%

Thanks for the much appreciated input....
simple to follow and effective.

just not so sure about this "Once its decided, there will be no "switching" of entire funds in and out of the portfolio, unless ...." blush.gif

hmm.gif but some would argue..."why no show back tested the results to include some global funds for a more diversified portfolio"... rolleyes.gif

You create your own rules la, just don't keep turning over your portfolio.

Some should do their own homework lor. The spreadsheet is already there. The data is freely available. Wanna make money, work for it lor.

Anyway, its not about the ability to curve fit a portfolio to maximize returns, but to deliver decent gains over a long period with minimal cost and effort.

for those that wanted to do back testing up until 2006,...can try using the FUND RETURNS tool from FSM website to get the returns....
pls note that...the entry point for data compilation may alter the value of the returns....eventhough it is still a 12 months period.

FSM wants us to believe that if we don't attend the seminar, we won't get the promotional rate.
But in reality, their system is probably not smart enough to know whether we are there.
