hmm.gif don't feel BAD...
here is a consolation.....
YOU are NOT ALONE.... biggrin.gif

Ouch. 93% of investors lost money in January

It wasn't just you. Virtually all investors lost money during the atrocious month of January.

Over 93% of investors were in the red last month, according to data shared exclusively with CNNMoney by Openfolio, an app that allows people to see how their investment portfolios stack up with others.

hmm.gif I think
those had bought recently are waiting for the storm to be over
those that have not bought recently are still waiting for the storm to be more severe
those that are thinking to start are saying ...."THKS goodness...I luckily did not start"
those that just started are saying...."OMGss what just happened."
those that are solely into FD maybe are saying..."i told you so"

I think it will be active once the China retail investors are back from their CNY holidays, and the colour of the indexes are not RED for about a week.

btw, so far during the month of January....how many of your clients (in %) called to ask about the direction of their portfolio or ask for a change of their allocation?

Invest Based On Value And Not Sentiment.... September 30, 2011
You may not realise that your sentiment-driven behavior has unconsciously influenced you to buy high and sell low. Find out how you can avoid making such a sentiment-driven investment decision during a volatile market condition.
http://www.fundsupermart.com.my/main/resea...-Sep-2011--1631

Investors often base their judgment of market lows and highs by looking at the market index level. But a focus on the market index level is the cause of market sentiment, which is often irrational and short-sighted.
what is the right thing to do?

Global Rout: What Investors Should Be Doing?
At this juncture, investors should stick to the “golden rule” of being rational and shun away from falling into the emotional trap. As quoted by Warren Buffett, “be greedy when others are fearful, be fearful when others are greedy”. With the market prices being pressured down while earnings growth trends remain positive, investors should hold a contrarian perspective and take this as a golden opportunity to tap into these equity markets at cheaper valuations. For first-time investors, the “Recommended Unit Trusts " serves as starting point for them to gain exposure to these markets. In addition, portfolio-centric investors that have invested in these markets could consider increasing their exposure to these relatively cheaper markets through dollar-cost averaging (by initiating a Regular Savings Plan), taking advantage of the relatively cheaper valuations to enter these markets on a progressive basis.

hmm.gif but sometimes, for some people, for some of these reasons.....they don't hold
1) they are emotionally affected by these constant DIVE, DIVE, DVIE of NAVs.
(maybe they just realised that their true risk appetite)
2) thinking of gambling abit but selling now and hopefully to buy in again at lower prices later.
3) they see that a certain region has much better prospective than others during this correction.

hmm.gif if I am comparing its NAV between 31 Dec till now....yes if you buy now, it has been discounted at about 15%

will it fall further?.....
hmm.gif if you are comparing
1) now till next week...I will tell you by next week
2) now till next month...I will tell you by next month

just remember no one knows when is the lowest NAV until it happened.

how much do you intend to go into GTF in % terms of your portfolio?
do you currently has GTF in your portfolio?

going to 20~25% from current %?

Since we are not sure how the NAV trend is going to be...why not go in 1/2 now (Already discounted 15% from 31 Dec) and buy in later after observing the trend again.?

yes and no.
YES, if you got the risk appetite to absorb the volatility and invest with the money you are not going to use for some time
NO, if you are easily be emotionally affected with the current volatility and does not have longer investment horizon.
