cfa is very specialised....i suggest you shud not take it. if u do want to take an mba, (assuming u qualify) the mba awarded by manchester uni from sunway could be good for u since you're in engineering...

You mean MBA(regular academic MBA), executive MBA and MPhil by research?

All I know is Academic MBA, Mphil allows you to continue your studies into PhD while Executive MBAs stops there.

This is what I managed to google and sounds relevant:

MBA Programs and Executive MBA Programs sometimes have a similar curriculum, but the class format and admission requirements vary.

Typically, the applicants to an Executive MBA Program must have a minimum of five years professional work experience. Executive MBA Programs are designed to meet the needs of upper level managers. Candidates are often evaluated based on what they will bring to the program. In most cases, taking the GMAT is not required.

MBA Program applicants are not required to have professional work experience, but they must take the GMAT. An MBA degree is essentially a general management degree.

Class format also differs between the two programs. In an MBA Program, students usually choose the classes they will take each quarter. In an Executive MBA program, students often complete classes in a step-lock method, attending courses with the same classmates for the duration of the program.

Hi all, I am planning to take MBA in coming September/ October. I have 2 universities in my mind now which are University of Nottingham & University of Strathcylde.

Now I am facing an issue whether to choose Fulltime MBA or a Partime MBA, as I am an engineer, if by taking Fulltime - 1 year course, I afraid that I will lost track of my technical knowledge.

Besides, these 2 universities required 2 reference letter from either applicant's academic lecturer (university) & supervisor/manager of current company. I wonder is it the university really call up the referees to double confirm the applicant's ability?

I was not that close to my ex-lecturer. so, headache on where to get my academic referee. As for my superior in my working environment, I am worrying that my boss may write bad comment in order to make me stay back in company. Cause he knew that if I am going to take MBA, I will resign from work. sad.gif

Myself actually already found 2 referee, they were my ex-bosses from previous company. So, any1 come across this issue? Can give me any advices for referees part? Like university of Strathcylde need referees who has been involved in supervision of either recent academic work or professional development and the other from current employer.

Besides from Nottingham & Strathcylde, any other recommended universities in Malaysia? anyway, Manchester Business School is out of list, as my budget is around RM50~55K...

I wonder you worried to much on things that you can't control. It just a normal practise of academic council to acquire your academic & working reference, then just get it & provide to them. For academic, just give your courseleader referal, for work, give your direct superior referal lolll...
I flip up the newspaper, i can see tones of MBA offering nowadays. Take the initiative to do that. Since your budget is more than wide range that you can choose.

As far as I know, Nottingham had a thorough interview process on the applicants for their MBA courses.
That was a few years back where they are still in MISC building KL.
The person interviewing is the faculty head or senior lecturers from their actual Nottingham Uni over at Nottingham.

Anyway, since you're already working; you can always provide your direct supervisors/managers/bosses or "ex" as referee. No need to really go back to "previous lecturer". That was meant more for those who are fresh grads.

My humble opinion, try to opt for an institute that has recruit majority working adults rather than fresh grad. Besides, go for assignment & exam base MBA course. Not advisable to opt for 100% assignment base course.

I found that a lot of local MBA is on weekday evening.
UM and UKM both in their KL campus do offer MBA. I think many of us do not know that UKM MBA has its branch in Jalan Temerloh.
However, the worst part is it is on weekday and it only convenient those working in KL city.
I really doubt why they want to arrange like this. Isn't it on weekend will be much convenient for most?
Currently at RM 17k, UUM sound the cheapest but....it only has 42 credits hours.
UM has 51, UKM 48, UPM 45, UTM 30 but each subject is 2 cr hrs instead of 3.

MMU is 13 modules and cost about 22k, exclude misc fees

Is the credit hours critical in determine the quality of the courses?

My take is to look into the quality of the courses.
My friend used to take the UTM MBA course and found the students/class to be highly competitive and the lecturers are OK. (They are not easy lecturers)

If you want to to take it up further, companies sometimes (especially the larger corporations) look at the university that offers the MBA class itself. Brands such as Insead are highly looked upon - these are among one highly ranked MBA schools in the world. Of course, there is the different fees that you have to pay.

Similarly ... checkout where does our Malaysian MBA schools stands in the ranking. This should assist you to determine which school should you select if you are looking for quality education. No of hours definately does not determine the quality of the education.
