There is a new MBA in Entrepreneurship course by UNITAR which collaboration with Babson College, USA

http://brse.unitar.edu.my/

How good is it you think the course?
*
Again, it is another distance learning program.
It is not cheap either, for UNITAR aand wou MBA, it is about RM 16k and a taught MBA in local uni is only RM20k.
I can not see any value doing distance if u actually have time to attend class every weekend.
But if u are in oversea and hv no time, distance learning is a choice.

@chgchksg128,
U r absolutely right. Also, distance learning would also mean minimal time spent with peers and in an MBA that's not what U want biggrin.gif

tink, I recently talked and was mostly convinced by the admissions officer at IE that the students doing distance MBAs today are much more internet savvy and are willing to engage in intelligent discussions over web forums as well as they can do in person. A lot of time in the corporate world today is dealing with electronic communications (email/IM) anyway, plus the typical MBA graduate today is far more global and would probably communicate with his/her peers via facebook and blogging rather than by phone. Of course they don't ignore face to face interaction and have several group sessions along the way but I think they're definitely innovating new frontiers by concentrating on a decent distance learning MBA.

Admittedly IE is a top 10 MBA program, so their students are probably a lot more devoted and driven than the run of the mill b-schools but you can't dismiss distance learning altogether.

@tishaban,
Yes what U said is true but that way is probably being fostered by the 'big boys'? Er.. what does IE stand for btw? *grins*

I've had friends taking up distance learning course due to it not being available here but apparently had difficulty connecting to the facilitators through email. Also, video conference time and 'face to face' meet times weren't exactly convenient either.

I do believe it is possible to look at distance learning but only if promises are met and that students are hardworking enough to log onto those forum and connect with each other. Nothing is better than face to face interaction but that is definitely make-upable through other ways of connection [just like U and I]

Are U considering this IE MBA?

tink, I did mention what IE was some time earlier in this thread y'know tongue.gif Either you're getting absent minded or you're ignoring my posts. So go google it biggrin.gif

Anyway, yes, IE does provide an online Global MBA program. This includes two face to face sessions in Madrid! Overall I think the program seems to be decent especially considering that it's ranked very highly in almost every MBA rank out there but like any other part time or distance learning program you'll have to be very disciplined.

It's also cheaper overall (35k euros not including travel) compared to INSEAD (50k euros), UK MBAs (30-40k GBP) or some of the Ivy League MBAs (> US$120k). The only question is whether or not I can get in biggrin.gif

@tishaban,
If U managed to get into the school u were aiming for initially, I'm quite sure U won't haf problems with this one *smiles* I haven't had time to go through the URL but just make sure classes are conducted in English *grins*

Also, let me know when ur off to Madrid; I'll tag along *grins* 35K Euros isn't considered cheap esp when a lot of savings been made through this new teaching method, ya know?! tongue.gif

Yeah, I have to do the GMAT first and you know how that's going biggrin.gif

35k euros is cheaper than their regular MBA which is around 50k euros, similar to what INSEAD and other european schools are charging. I don't think I have 35k euros even if I sell off my apartment.....

@tishaban,
Do U need me to sit U down before Ur gonna start getting ready for that? Otherwise, perhaps U'll like me to just enrol U for the paper?! biggrin.gif Sometimes, we just need to put some pressure on stuff before things start to move.

Yes the cost been reduced due to the method of delivery but still, 35k Euros isn't what I consider cheap. And, I've no apartment I can sell off to raise that kind of $

Found out that it is a part time courses, which have 3 days of evening classes every week. Not consider a distance learning program right?

@jasperng,
That figure seems about right. If ur based in MY, that kind of $ is definitely WOWZERS but most INSEAD graduates would have secured a job which can give them their ROI within a year of graduation.

Most will also choose to relocate out of MY tongue.gif It's a good course if U intend to join and climb the ranks of the who's who out there but if it's merely to get an MBA for self actualisation, U should reconsider other options tongue.gif

Damn.. I hope U know what I'm talking about [I seem to be lost in my own thoughts] *grins*

@boonboon,
If it is compulsory for U to attend face to face classes, chances are that isn't a distance learning program tongue.gif

if U intend to join and climb the ranks of the who's who out there then you might as well get a loan and go for the best US schools.

@PerfectStop,
I believe the MBA offered through CDC Management is the Strathclyde MBA.

Olympia College on the other hand is offering the Nottingham Trent MBA.

I think this only applies for people who have any hope of getting in to begin with biggrin.gif

However I do agree in general, the only European school I would consider (if I'm paying with my own money) is INSEAD and that's because I'm looking more into management consulting rather than a career in Wall St.

You haven't seen the top US schools yet biggrin.gif They typically range around US$120-140k for the whole course. But as tinkerbel pointed out, most of the top MBA graduates don't work for local institutions and make say RM8k per month. Also the top b-schools have excellent career services. They'll coach you through interviews and companies will swarm in and cherry pick the graduates to the point that more than 90% of the students will have jobs before they even finish.

If you can qualify, there's absolutely no reason to not apply for a top school, lack of funding is a lame excuse biggrin.gif

What are U waiting for then?! tongue.gif Also, when U get into Management Consulting, I'm quite sure U'll need a PA - that's where I come in `k?

The cheapest 'Top US School' MBA I found (based on research done in 2007) cost US$66,000 p/year but that is an accelerated programme and U will need to meet certain requirements to get in.
