The tangible ROI (salary increase, promotion, better opportunities) and the intangible (self-satisfaction, personal growth, knowledge etc) should be valued in my opinion against each individual wants. I believe majority would go for the tangible I suppose. I do have a classmate that took MBA (she is a housewife, technically a homemaker cos shes not holding a job now but comes from wealthy background) to prepare herself when she intends to venture into business. I also have one who was retrenched (VSS) and studying now.

It is not necessary to do a topnotch program though it may sound prestigious, I agree. Any program with reasonable pricing (20K to 30K plus), with peers who can contribute to each others learning and program suits ownself (eg weekend classes, exam or not exam based, lecturers credibility etc)

Dyong & tinkerbel!

Im not challenging anyone here. Im just to bring up the statement "be it with MBA or not"...I agree the contribution to org is a perspect of evaluation of ROI of an employee.
BUt im bring up a point of a MBA emmployee contribution to an org.
I've been observing my organization of all the managers with & without a MBA. Their individual contribution is totally different level even when i communication with them.

You are stereotyping, I'm fine if it works for you.
Such things just doesn't work in an argument.

Maybe you would like to rephrase this a little... I kinna miss your point.

Yes and no, I know one personally who was lecturing at a local university several years after getting his MBA although he has a significant amount of experience (> 20 years).

Most of the lecturers/professors in a good b-school have PhDs of course.

@work_tgr,
Theoretically U can't but it depends on the amount of experience U haf with U. For one to teach / lecture Diploma level students, he will need to have a Basic Degree. For him to teach in a Degree course, he will need to have a Masters and so on and so forth.

I applaud the government's move on wanting to make sure the majority public University faculty members hold a PHD but I do not agree with how they're implementing it. Anything from post graduate level isn't only about theories, but application of it into the real world. Most students fail to see the importance of understand and its application.

I fail to see the reason Y schools would accept a person with no prior work experience or practical knowledge of his field to pursue a PHD, unless of course that PHD is research based.

Hi all,

There are just too much too read & very interesting I'd say smile.gif I am currently surveying around for MBA which suits me best in terms of location, budget and quality. Still not much clue.

Btw, University of Strathclyde by CDC Management sounds very good but 50k sounds a bit too expensive if compared to other UK MBAs. Not to mention the parking rates there too in Phileo. If it is not budget constraint, I'd be enrolling already.

Anyhow, anyone going to the Postgradasia fair these weekends? Anyone out there seriously considering MBA in year 2009?

I am going this weekend...
My budget is quite low, may b 20k plus to 30k.
Do u consider local MBA, fantasy?
Lets share opinion here. I plan to enrol yr end.
Target is UTM (because got weekend class), oversea U is costly and do not guarantee quality also...
I am looking at best value of money..haha

Less than 30K will be good enough for local MBAs only.

I am looking more for UK MBAs, maybe more chances to get employed in MNCs and get sent there? drool.gif
Because my current degree is local degree. So, somehow got that dream to get one which is not local. unsure.gif

Anyway, very confused. Gonna prepare myself a checklist for the fair these weekends.

As for local MBA, was considering but recently saw some of the class preview, don't really like the environment. Wonder other uni the same or not.

I would like to do MBA asap. getting old d. hehe... because kept on delaying it.

I am getting old too and is almost same case with u, delay getting an MBA and from local uni in frist degree.

BUt my concern of not getting an oversea MBA besides higher course fee, I still rise whether the lecturers in college deliver the course well. How was the calss environment.

Any MBA in ur mind? lets share.

Most probably MBA from UK uni.

Based on this multiple pages forum, seems like SEGI not bad.

I have not much idea till now. SHall go to the postgrad fair and find out more.

My consideration would be location (because need to take public transport). ALso not to forget, that particular MBA must be approved by ministry of edu (to get KWSP withdrawal ).

How about youU?

Some said Segi is not as good as it should be..I read in this thread as well..
UK MBA do u mean University of Sunderland.? Not cheap.

I need to attend classes on weekend and since UTM is near my area and offer weekend classes, it is my first choice till now.
I consider Segi USQ MBA before but its exam fee is very high and a total cost over 30k.
The others below 30k MBA not really famous, even Unity college University of Ballarat form AUS also not cheap.

I am thinking changing field, but how much it will help me is a question for me.

I guess nothing comes cheap these days.

Well, looks like I'll see the Postgradasia fair first. Maybe I am not ready because I don't really know yet what I want. I guess the same goes to you? As you were saying "how much it will help me is a question for me."
