Hi all,

I am currently doing my MBA, will be more than happy to offer my experiences for your reference. Please note I am not associated with any recruitment nor university. I am here offering my experiences. I understand how uncertain it is to spend a large portion of your saving and how we all want the best out of our investment...so I hope I can share some of my experience and mistakes with you...

Again...I am here to offer sharing. IF u disagree please do not flame me because each of us have a different perspective and experience.
Nice to have you here.

Which MBA program are you undertaking?

Hi,

I am from healthcare industry, working with a MNC for the last 18 years. I decided to pursue a MBA as it is no longer possible for me to progress any further without one.

imho go for a full research based master and PhD if you are getting yourself prepared for academic line.

it is pointless if you do not produce journal papers and only participate in taught courses.

I assume you have a clear plan of action? The above sounds more like 'I feel like doing it but I don't really know why'

At the end of the day, we all study for one purpose which is to aid us in our career either directly or indirectly. So before embarking on anything, you need to know your plan of action.

What line of work are u in btw? And how will the MBA or PHD contribute to that?

Hi all,

I often heard how one can plan for switching line or industry after getting an MBA. Anyone out there with real life experience can share how they did it?

For example, if one is in finance, ie a finance controller is it possible to switch to become a HR manager because of the MBA? I have my doubts but really would like to listen to those who "did" it.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi there

This is actually a very interesting question to talk about. At Strathclyde, we have plenty of graduates who started off from a different industry and change completely upon graduation.

One example is from the article published in The Star Postgraduate supplement today,
Mr. Nicholas Fong, who was an engineer when he started his MBA study at Strathclyde, and is now attached to a banking institution in Malaysia as a strategist.

If you like, I can connect you to any of our alumni that has gone through this, and hear from them directly.

Thanks and all the best!

Regards, Edahani

Dear all,

I am thinking to pursue MBA in Penang area. The key factors for me to select a MBA course it the alumni networking, ranking of the school, quality of lecturers and also the subjects. A brief profile of mine, i am an investment consultant and have been doing investment advisory close to 5 years since fresh graduated. Been thinking to pursue either MBA or CFA, ended up decided to go for MBA after making all my mind clear.

I would be very happy if anyone of you can share some ideas to me if i could get a good MBA course in Penang area. smile.gif

hello
I've checked out sunway-lancaster too. Lancaster is triple-accredited yes but their delivery partner in this case Sunway is not atm. that got me a bit worried.
Strathclyde local delivery partner certainly is not. (in a very bad area too, dont feel like going there for study)
the other triple-crown is monash university (only full time).

are the others like UM (AMBA) UPM (AACSB) really that much of not worth mentioning?
iinm UM has a very harsh condition for its students, consecutively 2 semester lower than 3.0 cgpa will be kicked out.

Hi,

Perhaps my two cents of advise can help considering that I am a Strathclyde Alumna myself.

The difference with doing Lancaster with Sunway is its dual award which means that having the triple accreditation from Sunway is equally important considering that the award is from both.
With Strathclyde under CDC will be a bit different considering that award will only be coming from Strathclyde (triple accredited) which means that CDC not being triple accredited is not really that important. But having the partnership between the two for almost 16 years now proves their stability and gives the person the confidence that they will not just disappear in the midst of your study.

Now location-wise, i will agree that Phileo Damansara where CDC is located can be very jam during the weekdays, but the beauty is their classes are on weekends where the area is definitely almost empty, so going there will be a breeze.

Let me know if you wish to know more about my experience and how the programme benefited me during and after the programme.
