Checked my SCB FD. On Monday changed one FD to Renewal Instruction 3. Done already. KL main made the change in the system. Made change to 1 FD which mature on Sat so that I can still transfer out the fund online on Sat/Sun. SCB not paying interest for the Sat/Sun maturity. biggrin.gif

I placed fd with ocbc yesterday by cheque. So it show on the cert effective date 22/12/15.

But my home bank still wasn't debited when I check the balance this morning. Let's say it takes 2 days to clear the check, does this mean that while my fd interest is ongoing, I still earn 2 days interest from my home bank account until the cheque is cleared??  Just curious how these things work.

combined with Xmas long weekend, your account will be debited next monday if not tonight, isn't it wonderful?

So what Penang side is charging is the correct amt all along. It was 15 cent before and recently RM0.68. biggrin.gif

gen-x, will you be asking for the refund ?  tongue.gif
*
Yes, initially I give it benefits of doubt as it could be special rate by the Penang branch. However, when even HQ states that is the standard amount then I know I gonna demand for refund because the branch manager was very smug about it last time. So just returned from the bank and got my refund. I also opened a SA as UOB also consider fund coming in within 7 working days as fresh fund, same as OCBC.

Went to place the 4.5% at OCBC and got my second 360 SA closed without penalty. FD placement is very smooth and fast, already on 2 occasions. So perhaps my frequent feedbacks are working. Made an inquiry about joining PB but was referred to a male RM..so maybe next time tongue.gif tongue.gif

It should be debited as late as today.

It only takes 2 days to clear the cheque nowadays.

Banks have the right not to count any interest on any deposit which has not been cleared.
Mind that interest is calculated based on daily basis on the balance appeared in the account.

Use the OCBC branch that Ah Boom said has leng lui RM's. But now you may be stuck with leng chai RM. tongue.gif

Last time when UOB tried to persuade me to join their PB, in their system it logged in the name of the RM (lady mind you). Then when I joined their PB, the other lady RM (all old timers in UOB, you know what I mean), said the other lady RM is shown in the system with my name. Except she is now in another branch. So I got another RM lady. biggrin.gif

Key factor is whether the fund is available on the day before holidays. If not holding it until say the Friday, just losing FD interest (higher than SA/CA interest). biggrin.gif

This is how it happens.
You probably went to OCBC before 4pm cut off time, the staff done your FD before 4pm but validated your chq after 4pm cut off time. Your timing was just right.

Anyway it's not easy to catch this timing though. If you Are at the bank before 4pm but only available at the counter to make FD placement after cutoff time, the staff will inform you in advance that your FD will only commence on the next working day.

What's with this new promotion?

If I just opened a new saving account with HLB for the 6 months 4.5%, I still need to open another seperate account for this?
