The best for hedgies is the biggest you can find. Babymoli's tank is ok. Anyway, got a wheel so it is fine. Hedgies love to walk and roam. I let my Sparky and Donut out everynight, sometimes I a bit lazy so not every night lah but I try to do it everynight, let them walk around the house for a few hours heheheh.... they will only walk around when house has no lights.... so only late at night.

This is why if let it walk around the house, you must do it when nobody is around and all lights are off.

QUOTE(koohii @ Jun 7 2007, 11:03 PM) Crazymouse: Wah, your hedgie very cute, the colour also very nice. But the colour abit similar to Mr.Z's Mika. Dont know whether they are brother and sister or not hahha... My hedgies also pee and poo around the food bowl hahaha.... well, it makes cleaning easier in a way.You let them to walk around by themselve during the night, will they fight?? Then every morning you have to find where are them lo?? Haha.. my Layzz very funny one. His poo normally will stick on the toyoko box, so very easy to clear it and wont dirty the bedding. He also often poo and pee around the food bowl. I think he is poo, pee and eat at the same time hahaa.... My new hedgie ah, same seller as Mr.Z got Mika but then not sure related or not.... I think high chance lah. But the breeder I think breeds a lot of hedgehogs coz got mites.... Nah, they don't fight. Just move around as they like.... Hedgehogs don't fight, normally if they see each other, just more away.... coz in nature, hedgehogs also do that, move away unless breeding season. I only let them out for 2 to 3 hours.... normally around 10pm when my family go upstairs, nobody down stairs so I just let them out to roam... later about 12 or 1am I go downstairs to look for them, easy to find also since Sparky will roam about, can spot him but Donut will be around the corners or under the sofa... so just walk near the hiding space, if hissing means she under there hahahah. |

QUOTE(Mr. Z @ Jun 9 2007, 12:46 AM) i think mine is getting better kua.. dun really see anymore white dust one her skin... just bathed her again to make sure she is really free of mites... In the end didn't bring for jab coz the vet at Anicare advised me better not since so small... risky coz the jab, if wrong dosage can cause death. So she said better stick to Frontline. The Frontline and bathing treatment will take some time.... You saw mine was badly infected? You mean my hedgie that looks like your Mika?I saw urs was quite badly infected also... was it ok already? did u bring her for a jab? Eh wat happen to ur eyes? saw something in the last few post of SG thread.. AHahah... just some eye infection lah, happened on Monday till now.... but now my eye getting better. |

QUOTE(radical85 @ Jun 9 2007, 12:45 PM) huh?! the hedgehog u got from the seller got mite? i just booked one salt&paper from the same breeder... Then i will have to find cure for it along wif housing and etc... will be getting the hedgehog from her next week, now still having university exam overseas Yah.... actually the seller also didn't know till I mentioned it... the seller also being responsible lah, he is treating all the hedgehogs he have now. What you can get just in case the hoglet still has mites is Frontline Spray... you can get at any vet or certain petshops.... Rm33 for small bottle and RM45 for bigger one. Don't get the Spot On drops, I think the spray works better.so what should i get to treat mites prob? from where? can feed the hedgehog wif dog food instead of cat's? sorry for the noob question, i lazy to scroll through all the page for answer. Still studying for my last practical exam, tomorow is my last exam Housing, just get a large storage box. Toyogo or Felton brand also can, both are similar but can say Toyogo got better quality plastic. Anyway, just get the biggest you can find, normally around Rm27 to Rm30. As for bedding, the best so far is a mixture of wood pellets or wood shavings with Breeder's Celect cat litter. The cat litter is made of Recycled newspaper so it's very safe. If wood pellets, the best is either Woody Pet or Careline Wood pellet cat litter. Both are similar. As for woodshavings, the safest would be Delikate, Chipsi Super, Chipsi Extra and Chipsi Classic.... Avoid the ones like Apple or Lemon. Do not use other brands... only the mentioned ones here. Dogfood.... no.... it cannot be a staple coz dogfood does not contain enough protein. Hedgehogs prefer a diet higher in protein, so catfood is the best. Dogfood is also a bit too big to chew and catfood is just the right size. Also, hedgehogs cannot tolerate a lot of corn and garlic, which a majority of the dogfood has in the market so catfood is the safest. The quality brands to feed would be: Orijen Catfood, Royal Canin Kitten and Royal Canin Fit32, Go Natural catfood, Evolve catfood.... Do not give Iams or Science Plan, these 2 brands contain a lot of corn and Iams catfood is known to cause fatty liver disease in hedgehogs. Added on June 9, 2007, 9:26 pm QUOTE(Mr. Z @ Jun 9 2007, 12:01 PM) oic... hopefully she gets better.. gonna apply mine with frontline also.. Hahah... today my eye is great. Aiyah, too awake to rest.... if you notice, I only active in the forum at night.... Now on holidays so I have been sleeping and resting my eye throughout the day time heheheh.haha.. u sure ur eye dunnit see doctor a? well u shud rest more then.. haha... but i see u in the forum all the time as if nothing happens.. Sigh, I still haven't come up with a name yet hahah.... pity the Nameless Hedgie. Right now he tends to sleep alot. This post has been edited by crazymouse_yyh: Jun 9 2007, 09:26 PM |

Ceramic bowls are the best. Stay away from plastic coz it is too light, can topple over and then plastic can have bacteria build up since the food particles left in scratches are great for bacteria growth. Ceramic is heavy and easy to wash. Hygienic too.

QUOTE(babymoli @ Jun 11 2007, 11:20 AM) Hahahaha... Yup. Ren still like this. You can try hand feed him in the tank first without holding him. Put some kibbles on your hand & put in front him. Hehehe... Hahaha... have you ever heard a hedgie hiss and vibrate? My Donut does.... funny.... Hahahah... No matter how thin the bedding you put, still your boy can make the wood shaving drop into the bowl. Hahahaha... Sparky likes to take mealworms from my fingers QUOTE(rumizu @ Jun 11 2007, 11:32 AM) Emm.. he won't bite me rite? Welcome to the family.Hehe.. when i hold him, he always sniffed at my fingers, really afraid if he suddenly bite my hand.. Itulah pasal.. He likes to dig the shaving.. How did u guys got used to not feeling pain when u pick ur hedgie.. tangan sudah kasar ka? hehe Hedgies will always curl when see us.... it's normal. Tame hedgies should uncurl after a few moments and their quills won't be so tensed up. You will get used to the pain hahahah.... to me, I dare to hold hedgie but I don't dare hold durian.... |

QUOTE(babymoli @ Jun 11 2007, 09:13 PM) Hahaha.. I only saw Ren hissed before but no vibration. Hahahaha... Sure very funny seeing Donut to do that. Hahah.... hissing normal with all hedgehogs.... but the vibrating was really weird... I laughed till almost drop Donut coz so funny. Vibrate a bit like handphone style hahah. Hahaha... I thought durians are not spikey as hedgehog. Hun, do you have idea how to get rid off yellowish on the fur of a hedgehog? Like akachester said, Ren's bottom is really yellow. That notty fella will just lie on his pee while on the wheel.. Ah, new hedgie I decided to name Crinkle... hahaha.... Yah, durians not as spiky but i still dun dare to hold a durian in my palm like how i hold hedgehogs LOL Yellow stains ah? You can get those stain removers or use whitening shampoo. |

QUOTE(koohii @ Jun 11 2007, 11:59 PM) Yaya, he keep repeating that to me, "hun's SG very cute', "SG very cute", "it is so 'dak yi'"...bla bla.. haha.. but i dont think i ll rear it la, im a lazy person. SG really need a lot of time and work to take care of it... better dont try try to rear it.. haha.. Hahaha. My SG climbed on him and went into his shirt I think.... can't remember.... LOL. But yah, they need lots of care, like a baby.QUOTE(broken_string @ Jun 12 2007, 12:27 AM) lolx Yups... if you can hold Durian, why not a hedgie? Hahahah....so if i try hold a durian and survive tat mean i dun have problem holding a hedge? actually at first i wana get sg also but after reading the sg thread it seems that i am not suitable to keep sg for now coz they need alot of care and attention and i am working. so in the end i decide to get a hedgehog instead, not to say tat they dun need to be care but not as much as sg. True, hedgehogs are much better for working people than sugar gliders.... coz gliders needs a lot of time and attention. |
