You'll have to check the skilled occupations list via: https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/worki...occupation-list
Check the list and decide if there's a suitable job (usually they want some experience) and which pathway to take (e.g. 189 - points based system) and research on what's required.

Alternatively go for a migration agent which will cost you a fairly hefty sum.

Hi all, first time posting so please let me know if this is not the right place to be.

My wife and I have been interested to migrate to Aus, under Skilled Migration. We had a consultation with one of the agency and we both are qualified for visa 189.

We were planning to appoint the agency to assist until we saw the quoted fee of almost RM50k (all-in I believe, for both of us). May I ask if this is the expected amount to pay for the agency now? I understand that it is cheaper if we apply on our own but would it be riskier to do so?

I suppose this is the right place, though occasionally it gets quiet and then ramps up for a bit.

If you have more time than money then I'd recommend reading it up on the website yourself and determining if it's viable for you to do this on your own:
https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getti...ts-tested#HowTo

It's possible to do it yourself but it's gonna take a lot more time and maybe some trial and error - compared to the agents who should be more proficient at this. You have to ensure your profession is on the site and that you (and/or wife) can accumulate enough points to qualify.
You will also have to provide a lot of the documentation/requested items yourself. I went through an agent about nearly a decade ago and it was RM30k-ish if I remember correctly.

In the end we came over with some RM60k, which converted into roughly 20k aud. It was pretty tough till we found a job about 3 months later.
The more money you have the better your chances of lasting long enough to get a job here (unless you're coming over with one) and rent prices are pretty crazy nowadays.
Go through the link and check if those steps are achievable, then make the decision. Good luck!

50K!!!

The 189/190 are all doable DIY. Just need to spend time to read through, ans understand the process.

1) calculate the points you have. Cut off is 65, but some professions may need much higher to get any chance of being picked up for processing, eg 80-90, although it's less than before Covid when accountants needed 100 points!!! Your EOI has a lifespan of 2 years, after which it lapses. You can reapply after that. If you don't have enough points, you may never get picked up for processing before the EOI expires. In other words, having 65 points does NOT mean you will get your visa. The higher your points, the more in demand your profession, the better your chances. Healthcare is hot hot hot.

2) The area where you can improve your points is in the English proficiency. A full 20 points (IELTS band 8 and above in ALL components) will usually put you above the crowd. BUT very few can achieve that.

3) Make sure your qualification is in the in-demand list.

4) Find out which agency and how to get your qualification accredited.

5) Consider the 190, state sponsorship, with an additional 5 points.

Do note that going through an Agent will NOT repeat NOT fasten your processing time. It is NOT Malaysia where you can pay to "adjust" things. It may however avoid mistakes that may result in delays.

The previous company where I worked for already closed down and I'm unable to get a reference letter from them. Does that mean I can't claim the skilled employment experience points?

The wait isn't processing time, but queue time. When was the EOI lodged?

That's quite fast, so must have high points, plus healthcare priority.

status of children not relevant...

but if spouse is a citizen or PR, then the "easiest" visa is a partner visa ....either a temporary 820 or permanent 801 if onshore (309/100 if off shore)....and you will get on a bridging visa once you lodge the application....but it can take up to a crazy 4 years before you get the visa....

No need agents, easily done DIY.

That is "cheap". If you try the contributory parent visa under your children, it's AUD50k.

All information is available at that website.

If you submit now. They are processing May 2017 applications at the moment. At that point, the expected wait was 4 years. It had turned into 6. So don't be surprised the 12 years actually becomes 20.
