QUOTE(TechnoG @ Mar 30 2017, 07:47 PM) I think someone needs to highlight the fact that farm work or anything related to holiday visa is utter rubbish and waste of time. that would be debatable...there are many people who would thoroughly enjoyed spending up to a year living and travelling in oz...and working odd jobs to pay for it....a relative being one of them.... |

QUOTE(Lizzie PW @ Mar 30 2017, 03:06 PM) Hi mates, can anyone share on how do you apply job in Australia? Which website are you using? I graduate in international finance in Malaysia local uni, hope to get any clerk or admin job in Australia. QUOTE(Lizzie PW @ Mar 30 2017, 09:02 PM) Hii. I using accompany study visa over here.. my current occupation is financial analyst just around 1 year experience. if your profession is not in the sol, it would be difficult to both get a job offer, as well as to get a work visa...people on accompanying study visa will normally be allowed to work, but if your qualification is not accredited by the respective Oz professional regulatory bodies, you cannot work in that capacity.... QUOTE(xamenyap @ Mar 25 2017, 09:14 PM) i think getting into finance/banking industry can be really challenging since they prefer to recruit PR or locals unless youre some top students. im just average so what are the odds. like i said, if your qualification is not in the sol, you will not easily find a job, and even if you do, you will face problems getting a visa....finance and banking is not in the sol...none of those electives i did . regardless my finance and international trade major , my study is still too general and its really hard to find where i can fit. im just finding interns if possible or management trainee. have to start small. im from university of queensland. its in brisbane. after my graduation , i stayed backed 4 months to find a job but i failed and i relocated back home , malaysia which is more cost effective. ever since then till now , ive been finding one in aus from malaysia. |

QUOTE(TechnoG @ Mar 25 2017, 09:47 PM) UOQ is a pretty darn good uni but then again yeah, they normally don't hire foreigners haha Funny how you experience real racism when everyone exaggerate racism in Malaysia which is peanuts compared to here. My bogan boss do make racist jokes and my other asian colleagues do get offended by them QUOTE(xamenyap @ Mar 26 2017, 12:26 AM) yea, they still prefer locals for security reasons since we international can just cabut lari anytime and all the recruitment and training will go to waste. QUOTE(selvenz @ Mar 27 2017, 10:32 AM) Aussie recruiting is a bit different from my experience technical based interviews are probably only 10% and 90% is more about if you fit in with their team. Even though you might come across some who are racist but its different they are racist even among themselves. QUOTE(Nemesis1980 @ Mar 27 2017, 12:40 PM) They discriminate the POMS, Irish, Scottish, Europeans....notwithstanding they're discriminate asians taking their job too....anyway, welcome to the land of whining i sometimes don't understand why international students go study in oz, and then suddenly think they are citizens and should have equal rights and are discriminated by the racist aussies....hello....you are NOT an australian....you just go study there....you have NO right to jobs there.... however, since they are short of some professionals, they take in a lot of immigrants who have the right skills (amongst other considerations).... and they will normally want "local experience" ie having worked in oz before....over people just off the boat (or plane)... you want to stay and work there, you jolly FIT yourself into the system....NOT expect them to bend over to accommodate you... finally, how is preferring and prioritising your own residents (citizens and prs) racist?....don't all countries do that?...including msia?.... |

QUOTE(selvenz @ Mar 3 2017, 06:05 AM) They just announced no immigrant on student and 457 visas allowed to work in any fast food restaurants effective immediately. The 457 visa is specifically for occupations on the sol and employers sponsored, so of course you cannot go work as waiters ...But to bar international students is a bummer....Many earn their pocket money this way.... |

QUOTE(TechnoG @ Mar 31 2017, 10:49 AM) Yes, if you have the right intentions then working holiday is fine. But contrary to what you think, those people always make the headlines for the wrong reasons. people on a valid work and holiday visa (462) are allowed to work...the people who make headlines are NOT on a work and holiday visa....they enter as tourists, and then illegally work.... msians are not eligible for the working holiday 417 visa... |

QUOTE(tishaban @ Apr 18 2017, 01:03 PM) Thanks TechnoG. From that same article also... "“There won’t be permanent residency outcomes at the end of [the new temporary visa program],” he said." QUOTE(jianh @ Apr 18 2017, 02:53 PM) QUOTE(xphonerz @ Apr 18 2017, 04:09 PM) what that means is, under the old 457, there is an option to apply for a pr after 2 years...actually, under the new rules, there is still an option, but only after 3 years, and only for the medium and long term 4 years visa....it effectively means no chance under the 2 year short term visa... |

QUOTE(GrimlockRYAN @ Apr 18 2017, 07:00 PM) what if he had completed 4 years in Australia and just graduated ?i dont suppose he has a pr but he can find work via post graduate work visa right? What are the odds of securing a job with his situation in mind ? he will be eligible for graduate work visa....to stay back for 18 months....whether he will get a job, depends on the labour market...which is very tight for engineers...in fact, there is a possibility engineers will be removed from the sol in july....in which case, he will not be eligible for graduate work visa, but will still be for post study work visa....which is useless as there is little option to stay beyond the 2 years.... |

actually, the 457 still exist, just called another name, with changes in conditions....it will become more difficult and expensive....
the new mltssl list is not much different from the old sol...so people with these professions are not much affected... the new stsol however will have a lot less professions than the old csol.... the nett effect is, the professionals are not much affected....but the skilled workers will be.... |

QUOTE(TYK @ Apr 21 2017, 10:19 AM) since july last year, several professions are on the watch list, for review and potential removal from the sol...that page has been removed, as recent events has overtaken...iirc, these includes engineers, doctors, accountants and lawyers... they review this yearly, and a new sol (now mltssl) is issued in july....we will wait for the july revision to see what they have removed.... p/s found it....list of flagged professions... https://www.education.gov.au/flagged-occupations-sol-2016-17 This post has been edited by limeuu: Apr 21 2017, 04:13 PM |

QUOTE(jianh @ Apr 21 2017, 06:47 PM) Damn, on that list that's a lot of engineering occupations getting cut off. Professions are in the list because there is a shortage of these people...That's the whole point of the sol, and independent migration...Just wondering whether the removal of these occupations off the list, implies that job markets in Australia for these occupations are slow now? The resources slowdown means there is a lot less demand for engineers...And the last 2-3 years, getting an engineering job is difficult...So it's the other way round...Less jobs hence on the watch list.... Being on the flag however doesn't necessarily mean removal...It just mean they reassess the demand and decide on current conditions, if a profession should be removed.... Many times in the past, flagged professions continued to remain in the list...When the statistics show shortage remains... This time round, it's likely... |

QUOTE(selvenz @ Apr 22 2017, 04:21 AM) might be better for PR engineers . I know the most O&G engineers under 457. This crackdown will assist in employing the PR engineers not in the short term but eventually QUOTE(jianh @ Apr 22 2017, 09:22 AM) this revision of the 457 visa is designed to give priority to australians, which is of course the right thing to do...australian here refers to both citizens and permanant residents...in fact pr have all the rights (medicare, 1st house owner's grant etc) and responsibilities (taxes, levies) as citizens, with the exception of right to vote, and some sensitive federal jobs (for obvious reasons, remember pr are still citizens of other countries).... that is in contrast to foreigners with temporary residence visas (457, other temporary work visas, students), who are NOT australians...until they get a pr... therefore, this move is positive for prs.....as well as those who are applying for the 189...just that conditions are changing, and some professions may find the door closed come july... |

QUOTE(thesnake @ Apr 22 2017, 09:38 AM) im gonna take my IELTS exam this coming May, unsure if i can secure 8 score for all to qualify for 20 points... based on the eoi, selection for processing depends on the number of vacancies in your nominated profession, and the points you have...the higher, the faster....i know people who got called for processing 10 days after submission of eoi...anyways, best is to score 65 points above or 70 points above to get higher chance for invites? |

QUOTE(filage @ Apr 22 2017, 01:00 PM) Okay so after I do an IELTS for RM800, the next step would be submitting documents right? You don't submit anything at eoi....The actual process actually only starts when you get called for processing.... However, you need to have your ielts and skill assessment completed before you submit eoi, and they will reference them directly...Are they all can be submitted in electronic form or do I still need to do postage of hardcopies? Finally if an EOI is responded to, in state sponsored visa, that means they will definitely have a place for me? The accomadation and so on for job are they arranged as well? 190 is state sponsored independent migration...They give you a visa... That's all... Everything else, you do yourself....And pay yourself....So your better have a significant war chest to see you through the first few months... QUOTE(teikwing @ Apr 23 2017, 09:14 AM) IELTS -> skills assessment -> EOI -> state sponsorship selection/approval (acknowledgement, docs - proof of financials, essay writing etc) -> invitation -> complete various checks (PCC, medicals) -> visa lodgement (this is when bulk of fees is payable, docs electronically loaded) -> CO allocation (some may not be required) -> visa grant |
