lol.. nice vid! anyway bro, unless its a feeding box, i recommend you to use substrate eg. newspaper/paper, to ease your cleaning (:

I think you should just monitor your snake, the red thingy on your picture I've seen in plenty of my snakes poo....don't hurry to into giving it something it might not need....a couple more feedings and see if the red thingy still appears....
P/S : If you still want to deworm your snake with the tortoise deworming....put it into its water and dilute maybe on a ration of 1:30 just in case
Regards
Kuku

Ehm.... that was actually my snake's poo. I think Jhooaun is just curious about the whole deworming topic and preparing for any eventuality.

Anyway.... I will be monitoring the snake for a longer period before I take any action. Truth is, I'm afriad of killing my snake with any unnecessary action.

Thank you for your advice and also everyone else's. Heh, lazy to reply to all the posted.

ps: Jhooaun, your snake having cacing problem?

I was looking around and found this not so common method for substrate. I like the idea very much as it reminds me of the filter used for fishkeeping. However, I'm a bit wary of its practicability and also the uncertainty of the waste breakdown.

Anyone here got any comments on this?
QUOTE
Substrates

A key component of naturalistic systems is to use a 2-3 inch layer of soil-less substrate, such as coir, peat moss, or special mixed formulas that are kept moist, with the upper layer allowed to dry as in nature. Maintenance consists of scooping out fecal material weekly, then stirring the upper layer of substrate such that any trace of waste matter or urates are driven into the moist sublayer. In time this moist sublayer will become bioactive and develop a bacterial flora that will break down waste matter. To keep the system active the substrate should be lightly watered or misted once or twice weekly to maintain a moist sublayer. The substrate should never be allowed to become soggy, which will kill beneficial bacteria and cause it to smell bad. This approach will require little to no additional maintenance other than addition or partial replacement of substrate every 6-12 months. A healthy bioactive substrate will remain odorless for years except for a rich fresh earth smell. Another benefit of a moist bioactive substrate in contrast to dry wood shavings or chips is that they can be kept moist when snakes are in shed to provide the humidity required for problem-free shedding. When kept on a moist substrate it is common for snakes in shed to burrow in the substrate until a shed is completed.

My snake just shedded yesterday, Jan 4th.
The thing is, it last shedded on the Dec 23rd.
I know its a baby snake but to shed within 12 days? That is like wearing your jeans twice then throw it away.

as for newbie~~ i suggest something like ball python or corn snakes~~ alot of ppl do suggest this. just my 2 cents~ as for ur picture..i saw the word green whip from the link. i suppose its got an arrow head and slim and long body~ so its a whip snake..austin got one~ ask him show..LOL

and of coz, get a snake from one of our member here..shops outside there selling way expensive..if u are from PJ or KL. try to go Ikano and u see those snakes there..selling quiet expensive. if u get it outside..probably 20 or 30 % cheaper~

*
I think the problem with whip snake is the food source: cicak.
Is it possible to train it to eat pinky?

I caught a golden tree snake last time and kept it for a week or two. Had to feed it cicak, which I caught after jumping around in the darkness with a fishnet. sweat.gif

Green Tree Python is really cool. If I have more space, I would eventually keep one but alas.....
I read that its quite aggresive. How often do you handle it?

fragile back?? oh my, i dont even know about that..is it because they are lack in vitamins or calcium??
*
I don't think that is due to calcium/vitamins deficit, otherwise it would be an individual snake health problems rather than a species issues.

So I would venture to guess that GTPs naturally have fragile backs. That is how they are built.

Heh... Jejak Kasih in the snake thread? rclxms.gif

Anyway, does anyone here know how snakes respond to pandan smell?

Why? Well, I'm thinking of getting those recycle papers pellets as substrates for my snake and the unused pellets might proved to be a cockroaches heaven. Pandan is said to repel those bugs and I wonder how snakes would respond to pandan flavoured substrate.

I haven't got it yet. Thinking about getting it and also the potential problems, like the cockroach issue.

My Pueblan rattled its tail at me last night, then peed on me. mad.gif

How often should I handle a young snake like mine? It is around a feet long.

Anyway, is the general consensus for mixing pandan with paper pellets okay?

ratsnake will rattle their tail and musk if provoked.i dont know if there is a tips

in handling but a couple of sessions a day and 15minutes every session

should be ok.enough to get them use to us.my rm0.02 though.
*
Really? I took it out at most twice a day and usually just once.
The snake will try to get away from me, as in stretching its body to the max and risks falling down so I usually put it back within a minute.
I was told not to handle it too much since its still young.

as for mice..prices are..around rm2 or rm3 each. but i get it for rm3 thou. rat are more expensive. fuzzy around rm 2 aso.

xecton, the paper pellets is like tat one. if too high quality..u aso end up throwing them in the dustbin after use..haha~~
*
So regardless of size (pinky, fuzzy, adult), they all are priced the same?

As for the paper pellets, I agree that all will end up in the dust bin. But the good ones are very solid, while these broke off easily with small bits and pieces everywhere. As long as there are no health concerns, then I'm good.

QUOTE(Masculine @ Jan 19 2008, 10:53 PM)
Seremban also same price... very very expensive... size also like 4 weeks old... need to pump them up before fed to snake...
