Thanks for the wishes people, we head off early tomorrow unless it rains all night, the first cyclone of the season may strike in a couple of days.
I think our trip will be way less adventurous than Kuching to Kota Kinabalu, maybe not but I can guarantee the countryside will be a lot emptier.

Thanks to the wonders of Google maps this shows the planned route, I always like to use different roads if I'm able, that way I get more adventure. Only 34 km I'm led to believe is unsealed but the country isn't heavily populated. Something folk in other countries may not readily understand is that outside of towns in our inland areas like this it's quite empty, but Google earth and street  is a great thing to show what things are like. Perhaps you'll see too why I've moaned about our tiny fuel tanks.

It's pretty big even by world standards 1,730,630 sq km, Borneo too is pretty big but only 748,168 sq km.
Somehow we manage to cram 4 million people into Queensland.

I live in Kuching and i had done a few round trips to Miri, another end of Sarawak. I always travel in midnight and petrol stations are hard to comeby. Our tiny fuel tank always makes me nervous together with the inaccurate fuel indicator. However, luckily I never stranded somewhere in the middle of Borneo road out of fuel. Haha.. I decided to bring spare fuel in my boot as a backup in my last few trips.

Top to bottom you can budget a bank of 450km without problem. The spares are good for another 150km. When you're on straights without too steep hill climb, kick in the SAT so you stay on fixed "6th gear" ratio. However, if you came to hill climb and SAT emulate a drop gear shiftshock, turn the SAT off. I've done a few rounds of 600km on an FLX SE icon_idea.gif

I'm quite sad with Proton's SC, really. It's been a month of looking for a solution to my AC problem, I'm living in northern area and it's quite hard for them to get spareparts. I'll try my luck next year in southern area. Sigh.

i think if u really go calculate your fc, like fuelly does, you can actually estimate correctly your trip mileage per full tank actually. you will never have to rely fully on our gaga fuel indicator. like me, even though i did not pump fully, i can expect how much mileage i can gain for each fuel pump i done.
e.g if i pump rm30 for rm1.95/L fuel, for my usual 9km/L city ride, i can travel {9km/L * [rm30/rm1.95/L =15.38L] =} 138km.

but u have experiences driving long distance, so ayam sure you know what you are doing notworthy.gif

i like to read what people people wrote about their road trip like these guys done. --> http://sarawakbloggers.net/borneobyroad14-...-kota-kinabalu/

I usually refuel at Sibu, reason being my driving style more agressive on some sections of the road. And sometime need to overtake rows of lorries and tanker.
