Thanks, how to apply the social visit pass? This link http://www.ica.gov.sg/page.aspx?pageid=180 says to apply at VSC counter, is it? So after i arrive at airport i've to go to ICA building before going to interview place? Sorry totally noob, never been out from malaysia b4, even to malaysia east.

Just need to fill in the small card form when you arrive at customs
If you're flying they will give you the card in the plane

Thanks for the reply.

I will do that smile.gif

But just a bit confused when different ppl telling me different things.
I google and got that from MOM website.
When i go through the manual lane in custom, the custom told me to go to ICA (Immigration & Checkpoints Authority).
My friend told me to do nothing as the custom guy already update all the information when i am going through the manual lane.

Anyway, lets see how it goes.

Thank you~

Your friends have lied to you!
I just did this a few months back too, as knwong mentioned you'll need to fill in that form and submit on their website
Remember to follow up after a week or 2

Hi everyone, it's my first time posting in this thread.

I actually owns a small startup but however due to the market slow down, my investor got no choice but to cut budget and leads to closing down of the business.

I'm currently eyeing to work in Singapore. I do have a few successful track record in e-commerce industry and wonder if asking for a 4k (negotiable) salary is too much since I do not have an e-pass.
*
What experience do you have other than the startup?
And what industry and job would you be looking for?

Hahah I feel like I'm back at uni, trying to limit my food spendings to SGD15/day.
Cost of living is quite low indeed here and it seems that it is entirely possible to save at least half of my pay per month smile.gif even after paying rental on my studio and some luxuries (damn you my gaming and anime doll hobby/addiction).
As for actual work, I do love the faster and more mature environment here.
Win win I'd say, but I kinda miss the missus. Only seeing her every fortnight is a big change.

Hoho lucky I saw your post before you edited the number thumbup.gif

hi guys.. i got a job in Singapore (changi - i think ppl call it cbd?). they offered 5ksgd and i could really use some help in my planning.

any idea where should i rent

-would love it if i can rent a cheap studio
-easy to get malay food
-near mrt
thanks in advance!
*
No man...Changi is not CBD sweat.gif

Studio is going to cost you 1.5-2k, i dont think you want to spend 30-40% of your pay on rent
Get a room instead for half that amount

Hey guys,

Kinda in a dilemma here, my first job as freshie(masters accounting and finance) got offered for business development in SME company. Might be sending to Myanmar to expand business over there .

No commissions, only bonus/incentives  ( avg bonus 2-3months, top sales 6)

2.2 , after confirmation will increase 2.5

Drawbacks. Contract for 3years with 3 months penalty. Have to sign contract within the first month. Probation between 3-6months.

Working hours 11-8pm. No OT , no hard sales because it's b2b.

Is this offer fair? I am alright with the jobs scope and arrangements so far. But is worried sick for the contract and would be pleased if tai kor here's can share their opinions in such arrangements.
*
Your masters might not mean much, but having to work overseas in a country like Myanmar usually comes with higher compensation
If your job was to be locally in SG I'd say you can consider it, but not in Myanmar

Hi everyone. I'm tentatively having a job interview next Wednesday in Singapore Science Park Road. The interview time is around 1.30~2pm. Tentatively because the company comes with Japanese culture and I had some bad experience with one so might wanted to reject this interview instead.

Should I be in Singapore a day earlier or should I take the bus in the morning and going back after the interview? The accommodation in Singapore is quite expensive as I'm on a low budget. If recommended to be there one day earlier where should I stay?

Edit: Or should I take plane? Or maybe take plane from KL-SIN, then bus from SIN-KL
*
Shouldn't you figure out if you want to proceed with the interview or not first?

Anyway my recommendation is if you're budget conscious, fly in and out
Weekday flights aren't too expensive and your interview timing is not too early/late

But if I were you, get a cheap place and fly in/bus the day before
Personally i don't like rushing and would rather spend a bit more, so it depends on your style

Don't laa fill up all the appointment dates, apply only if you feel you have a good chance
Remember it'll take ~6 months to get a result, and if rejected you'll need to book another appointment which is 6-9 months later

Thanks to everyone keeping this thread useful and informative smile.gif
I wanted to check on tax resident and non-resident, I used the calculator and roughly understand how it works. In Malaysia, MTD/PCB is done by Employer on monthly basis in which we receive nett salary in our bank account. So same goes to Expat where they are taxed as Non-resident monthly for first 6 months and receive refund when they perform tax filling. Is it the same in Singapore? I am asking to ensure that I have sufficient income to cover for the first 6 months.
*
Nope you will not have that witholding tax type in SG
You don't have a monthly deduction. Only pay the entire amount during tax cycle the following year

or pay by GIRO monthly, interest free smile.gif

Ah yeah, then it'll feel like a monthly deduction 2nd year onward tongue.gif

I'm under the No-Filing Service (NFS) this year and it states:
"A Notice of Assessment (NOA) or tax bill will be sent to you from May onwards based on the information provided by the relevant organisations participating in the Auto Inclusion Scheme (AIS) and the reliefs claimed and allowed to you previously (excluding course fee relief). "

Does that mean I need to wait until after May when i get the NOA before making any payment?

I am going to start working in sg, looking for accommodation now.

If I will be going back to KL during weekend, should I stay somewhere near to Changi e.g. tampines, simei... ? So friday night I could reach airport asap.
My office is located somewhere around commonwealth, thus definitely staying in queenstown, boon lay, jurong area will be nearer. In a dilemma now.

How's the life in Boon lay/jurong etc area compare to Tampines/Simei there? In terms of food/environment/community.
My budget is 1k, should be sufficient to look for a room in those area.
*
If I were you I'd rather stay closer to my work place instead
You travel to work 5x a week and only travel to airport 1x a week at most

Plus the human traffic during work days is going to be way worse compared to friday night
If you're in a hurry you can always take a taxi to the airport, but even MRT will take you less than an hour

But staying further away from the CBD and nearer to the 'end of the line' might actually mean you'll be able to board MRTs more easily during peak hours?
*
Good point, for me personally i never had a problem getting in the first train so i guess that depends on your location
But main time saving to me is the actual travel time due to distance that he can save

Why banking?
My impression is most ppl choose banking for the money, which contradicts what you probably have to do in order to secure a position here

Hmm I'm not sure if I get what you mean there.. Well I chose banking because I'm actually interested in their career progression as told by my relative who is also working in a bank. He told me that the bank actually provide development and training programmes for him. Not only that, he also mentioned on internal transferring to different job functions is also possible so that you have more exposure in the bank.. hmm.gif
*
What i mean is most ppl go for banking jobs expecting it to pay well (both in short and long run)
You will probably have to take a low pay to start off which is the opposite of the above
Unless you have a specific interest in the banking industry, then thats not pay related

The development and training with job rotation you mention there, doesn't that exist in all large corporations regardless of industry?
I don't see why you would want to get into one of the most competitive industries in SG just for that

No, I am looking for a room to rent, not entire unit.. Just wanted to know and compare which one suitable for me.
Why is it better to rent full tenanted one? More freedom? What are the likely curfews?
*
Most suitable for just about everyone = stay without owner
Cheaper and easier to find = stay with owner
