'sup guys

need a slapdash part recommend for :
[Budget] 3k-3.5k (without monitor)

[Purpose] 1080p gaming (not aiming 4k lelz) photoshop

[Hardwares that will be re-use] 4 HDD (2tb each)

[Personal preferences] Gtx 970

is it advisable to get Win10 home version?
*
Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 889
MSI B150M Bazooka D4 - RM 409
Kingston 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 246
Zotac GTX970 4GB GDDR5 ZT-90101-10P - RM 1479
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 189
Thermaltake Versa H25 - RM 139

Total: RM 3351 (Techview price inclusive of GST)

You don't have OS to reuse? If yes, then it is up to you whether to get Windows 10, some people hate every Windows version after Windows 7, if you aren't a hater, get it then for the sake of DX12 laugh.gif

Windows license key price is different everywhere, so you might have to find the cheapest alternative yourself, but I think Windows 10 Home version license key should be around RM 300 range if you get from official channel, or you can just buy Windows 7 key and upgrade to Windows 10 for free, this might be cheaper than getting a Windows 10 license key (able to reuse the Windows 7 key to activate Windows 10 starting from TH2 version 1511 update).

If you want good color gamut,

Dell U2414H (1080p) covers 96% sRGB, around RM 1050.

Dell U2515H (1440p) covers 99% sRGB, around RM 1480.

LGA 1155 new mITX mobo is very hard to find now, I'll just recommend a new platform to you instead.

Intel Core i5 6400 - RM 822
Gigabyte H170N-WiFi - RM 575
Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB DDR4 2133MHz RAM - RM 269
Fractal Design Node 304 - RM 369
Dell U2414H - RM 1025

Total: RM 3060 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

To reduce cost, downgrade to Haswell (4th gen), this can save you roughly RM 500 since you can reuse your DDR3 RAM and Haswell mITX mobo is cheaper.

Edit: typo on socket number  doh.gif

Thanks terrence. I might change PSU as well. Any recommendation?

Your PSU is fine to reuse, if you really want to change to a better quality PSU, you can consider Seasonic M12II EVO 520W/620W for fully modular cables or S12II 520W/620W for non modular cables, price is around RM 300 - RM 400 depending on the model you are getting.

So it seems like you need new CPU + mobo + RAM (if change to DDR4) only right?

Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 889
Gigabyte H170 Gaming 3 - RM 579
Kingston 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 246

Total: RM 1714 (Techview price inclusive of GST)

If you don't mind mATX board (less PCI-E slots), you can consider MSI B150M Bazooka D4 (RM 409).

You can also upgrade to i7 6700 if you wish, price is around RM 1400 and add a 250GB SSD, around RM 400+/-.

Hi guys. Need your opinion on my entry gaming build, based on digitalfoundry suggestion from their i3-6100 video review. This RIG will be used mainly for CAD Software and gaming (Witcher 3, Dragon Age etc.) I'm aiming for 1080p, no insane dual monitor 4K gaming etc for now, in fact I'm going to use my 1440x900 monitor for now. Below are the parts that I'm going to go with with justification.

NZXT S340 RM330 (Mainly for cosmetic purpose, also the space is sufficient in case I wanted to add some fans or watercooling my cpu)

MSI Z170A GAMING PRO RM695 (I got this recommendation from digitalfoundry article, from what I read its better to opt for z170 for some future proofing with skylake build and in case I wanted to SLI or upgrade my CPU)

Core i3-6100 RM500 (The performance are really good for entry gaming and when paired with 2666 speed RAM. also from digitalfoundry)

NH-L9I L TYPE LP CPU COOLER RM185 (Stock fan are loud)

KINGSTON D4 HYPER FURY 2666 (2x4GB) RM300 (For CAD software, I need the extra RAM and the 2666 is from digitalfoundry article as well)

MSI GTX950 2GD5 OC RM801 (price performance ratio, also from articles, I'm open for alternative but would prefer nvidia)

WD BLUE 1TB RM212

CM B500 500W 80PLUS POWER RM269 (This is where I think I could cut a little bit more, but I'm no expert, need input on this)

Total: RM3292

If it matters, you can refer to here for the digitalfoundry reference article.

Really appreciate your input. Thank you!

That's one of the worst builds i've ever seen.. shocking.gif doh.gif

Go with this instead.

Intel Core i5 6500 RM889
MSI B150M Bazooka D4 RM409
Zotac GTX970 Reference 4GB GDDR5 RM1399
Kingston Value RAM 8GB DDR4 2133MHz RM246
WD Caviar Blue 1TB RM225
FSP Hexa+ 550W RM189
Thermaltake Versa H25 RM139
Total:RM3496
Prices are from TechView.

Dunno what's your budget, so for 3.5K, you can go for that.

Around 3K, cut down GPU to Zotac GTX960 Single Fan 2GB GDDR5 RM819.

Thank for the feedback! I'm really new to PC building tongue.gif

My budget is around RM3K, give or take 300. But probably going to save up some more for your build.

Just a few suggestions based on what you get from DigitalFoundry.

First, their price is much different than what our market is currently offering, so you can't directly compare the specs and the price.

You are going to get an i3 and pair it with a Z170 mobo with the reason of SLI and upgrade CPU, well technically this is ok, but if you run SLI with an i3, bottleneck will most likely to occur, this forces you to change the CPU to either i5 or i7, which indirectly increases the cost of upgrade. What I suggest is go for i5 and H170/B150 mobo, SLI is something totally different, you need a SLI capable PSU as well which you don't have in your current build, and GTX950 SLI is totally not worth the money, better get a more powerful GPU, not to mention SLI requires SLI profile support from both games developers and nvidia, if no SLI profile from nvidia, this will set you back to single card.

GTX950 is not worth to get, you can get Zotac GTX960 by just topping up RM 20 and the performance is almost twice of GTX950 (mostly 1.5x).

Since you don't mind Haswell or Skylake, I'll go with Haswell since it is cheaper and the GPU suggestion is purely based on your games you most played.

Intel Core i5 4460 - RM 799
ASRock H97M-ITX/ac - RM 369
GSKill NT 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Value RAM - RM 209
Palit GTX960 2GB GDDR5 Reference - RM 939
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 219
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 199
Fractal Design Node 304 - RM 349
BenQ GL2460 - RM 539

Total: RM 3622 (Idealtech price inclusive of GST)

If you want to max out your budget, you can upgrade to either GTX970 or add a 250GB SSD or get an IPS monitor.

That is quite an insight, so I'm guessing the suggested build quoted above is going to fit the bill. Ah yes, I also read about that somewhere but its nice that someone could gave an elaborate explanation. From your suggestion I'm probably going to go for the GTX970 though, seeing SLI is support is subjected to nvidias' bidding, I will opt for single card build instead of getting a GTX960 and SLI-ing them in the future.

Thanks. Its my first time building an ITX rig, was wondering does the PSU fit into the rig ? Also, how much of an increase if I were to opt for GTX 970 ?

Can fit but since it is a non modular PSU, you might have clearance issue, suggest you to top up to get a modular PSU like Seasonic M12II EVO 620W (RM 409), cable management is much easier.

The cheapest GTX970 from Idealtech is Palit GTX970 Reference at RM 1579, a bit pricey, if you can travel to Lowyat Plaza/Techview(PJ)/ETech(Kepong), very high chance you can get a cheaper quote.

Thanks. Lastly a few questions, what would you suggest for an AMD equivalent of GTX970 or GTX960 ? If by using AMD gc, how would it effect the above build ? can it still fit ?

If change to AMD, you need a more decent PSU than the currently suggested FSP Hexa+ 550W (you can switch to the Seasonic 620W I suggested above) because AMD card is power hungry, not recommended to run on low wattage PSU.

AMD R9 390 = GTX 970
AMD R9 380 = GTX 960

The question of fit or not fit is solely depends on the model you get, different brands have different lengths.
