Hi guys. Need your opinion on my entry gaming build, based on digitalfoundry suggestion from their i3-6100 video review. This RIG will be used mainly for CAD Software and gaming (Witcher 3, Dragon Age etc.) I'm aiming for 1080p, no insane dual monitor 4K gaming etc for now, in fact I'm going to use my 1440x900 monitor for now. Below are the parts that I'm going to go with with justification.

NZXT S340 RM330 (Mainly for cosmetic purpose, also the space is sufficient in case I wanted to add some fans or watercooling my cpu)

MSI Z170A GAMING PRO RM695 (I got this recommendation from digitalfoundry article, from what I read its better to opt for z170 for some future proofing with skylake build and in case I wanted to SLI or upgrade my CPU)

Core i3-6100 RM500 (The performance are really good for entry gaming and when paired with 2666 speed RAM. also from digitalfoundry)

NH-L9I L TYPE LP CPU COOLER RM185 (Stock fan are loud)

KINGSTON D4 HYPER FURY 2666 (2x4GB) RM300 (For CAD software, I need the extra RAM and the 2666 is from digitalfoundry article as well)

MSI GTX950 2GD5 OC RM801 (price performance ratio, also from articles, I'm open for alternative but would prefer nvidia)

WD BLUE 1TB RM212

CM B500 500W 80PLUS POWER RM269 (This is where I think I could cut a little bit more, but I'm no expert, need input on this)

Total: RM3292

If it matters, you can refer to here for the digitalfoundry reference article.

Really appreciate your input. Thank you!

That's one of the worst builds i've ever seen.. shocking.gif  doh.gif

Go with this instead.

Intel Core i5 6500 RM889
MSI B150M Bazooka D4 RM409
Zotac GTX970 Reference 4GB GDDR5 RM1399
Kingston  Value RAM 8GB DDR4 2133MHz RM246
WD Caviar Blue 1TB RM225
FSP Hexa+ 550W RM189
Thermaltake Versa H25 RM139
Total:RM3496
Prices are from TechView.

Dunno what's your budget, so for 3.5K, you can go for that.

Around 3K, cut down GPU to Zotac GTX960 Single Fan 2GB GDDR5 RM819.

Thank for the feedback! I'm really new to PC building tongue.gif

My budget is around RM3K, give or take 300. But probably going to save up some more for your build.

Just a few suggestions based on what you get from DigitalFoundry.

First, their price is much different than what our market is currently offering, so you can't directly compare the specs and the price.

You are going to get an i3 and pair it with a Z170 mobo with the reason of SLI and upgrade CPU, well technically this is ok, but if you run SLI with an i3, bottleneck will most likely to occur, this forces you to change the CPU to either i5 or i7, which indirectly increases the cost of upgrade. What I suggest is go for i5 and H170/B150 mobo, SLI is something totally different, you need a SLI capable PSU as well which you don't have in your current build, and GTX950 SLI is totally not worth the money, better get a more powerful GPU, not to mention SLI requires SLI profile support from both games developers and nvidia, if no SLI profile from nvidia, this will set you back to single card.

GTX950 is not worth to get, you can get Zotac GTX960 by just topping up RM 20 and the performance is almost twice of GTX950 (mostly 1.5x).

That is quite an insight, so I'm guessing the suggested build quoted above is going to fit the bill. Ah yes, I also read about that somewhere but its nice that someone could gave an elaborate explanation. From your suggestion I'm probably going to go for the GTX970 though, seeing SLI is support is subjected to nvidias' bidding, I will opt for single card build instead of getting a GTX960 and SLI-ing them in the future.
