If you want Core i3/i5 then you need to drop the dedicated GPU and use the iGPU to run Dota 2, max settings is not possible with iGPU (frame rate is pretty bad if you run on max settings). Budget cannot fit Windows key as well, top up you budget to get it.

Guys, i got offer from my friend for Zotac GTX960 2GB and Asus Strix R9 380 2GB. Which one should i choose? hmm.gif

Thanks.

The R9 380 is also 2GB? GTX960 then, if you play GameWorks titles then it has advantage over AMD card.

You are advised to get a more decent PSU for oc setup.

Hi masta
I've been wondering, if I can put the GTX 950 into the same specs as above?
Which one is the best in term of FPS per Ringgit?
Thanks  icon_rolleyes.gif
*
Can put GTX950 but the max price for GTX950 that I can accept is RM 700, anything beyond RM 700 is not worth.

Try to look for Palit and Zotac brand, they are much cheaper than other brands.

If monitor is required then 1.5k is too little to build a rig sweat.gif

Hi guys, need suggestion on building new rig. RM7k budget. Gaming and multitasking purpose. Looking for 144Hz monitor, 16GB ram, i7 6700. Thank you
*
Unable to fit a GTX980Ti sweat.gif

Intel Core i7 6700 - RM 1318
Gigabyte H170-HD3 (D4) - RM 486
Kingston 16GB (8GB x 2) DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 392
Sapphire R9 390X 8GB GDDR5 Tri-X OC - RM 1945
Kingston HyperX Fury 240GB SSD - RM 405
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
Seasonic M12II EVO 620W - RM 363
NZXT S340 - RM 320
Acer XB240H - RM 1149

Total: RM 6593 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

If you want GTX980Ti, drop the SSD and add some money to get it.

To max out the budget, you can upgrade to an oc rig/1440p monitor/get a nicer case/mobo/cooler etc.

QUOTE(Mzxy @ Feb 10 2016, 02:48 PM)
Thanks for the quick and good suggestion! Hmm, wouldnt Gtx980 Ti overkill for a 1080p monitor?
*
For me, nope, if you prefer to run max settings (including MSAA, GameWorks settings) at 60 FPS in latest games, you need a GTX980Ti, even for a 1080p screen, GTX970 and GTX980 need to tune down the AA settings a bit.

And you asked for 144Hz monitor, thus the need of the GPU processing power is increased, if you play Dota 2/CSGO then a GTX960 is enough, if you want to run other games at 144Hz then you better pick a better GPU, but most of the people will run triple A titles at 60Hz due to screen tearing when GPU unable to achieve 144Hz, if you have money, you can use GSync or FreeSync monitor to solve this.

BTW is getting an unlocked i7 6700 worth it? Is the performance gains good compared to the locked one? Since the 6700 non k runs at 3.4ghz stock instead of the 4 ghz on the k version.
*
3.4GHz is pretty fast already, 4.0GHz will be a monster for normal gaming and daily use.

But due to stock shortage of i7 6700K last time, price went up in a very quick pace and the price difference is around RM 250+ now.

So RM 250 for 0.6GHz gain, worth it or not? Your choice, some might say it worth, some might disagree.

[Budget] 4-5k

[Purpose] Gaming

[Hardwares that will be re-use]

current rig. salvage as many as possible :
[Monitor resolution] 1080p

[Games & softwares that use frequently] Witcher 3, GTA 5, GW2 (Ultra setting if possible). If I can run Witcher 3 on ultra anyone game should be easy.

[Personal preferences] I want to upgrade processor. GPU still undecided since I heard there will be new line coming this year. Should I wait? Not in a hurry, just want to get rough estimate. Need a new monitor, 27" possible? Few more hdd. Willing to wait until the end of the year to buy them.

[Location] Perlis

Thanks
*
Upgrading from Haswell to Skylake doesn't seem to be very worth TBH, the performance gain is quite small, the best gain would be going for i7 6700, but not all games take advantage of the hyperthreading technology of i7 at the moment.

As for GPU, Nvidia's Pascal and AMD's Polaris are coming soon, probably in Q3, if you can wait then just wait.

As for monitor, if you want 27" monitor, go for 1440p instead.

In conclusion, if you want to conduct an upgrade, Skylake i7 is the only choice because Haswell i5 to Skylake i5 just doesn't make any sense in terms of price/performance.

Just downgrade from oc build to non-oc build (from the last quoted build), others can remain same.
