Oh. noted. But this mobo is it good on putting extra hard disk inside? As I need a mobo that allow me to put at least 3 hard disk Inside. Lazy to use external. Haha
*
Don't worry, current gen mobo (mATX and ATX) comes with at least 5 SATA ports for your SSD/HDD/ODD.

Great. So the suggestion for me on processor and mobo?
*
If you aren't fancy on those extra features and aesthetic purposes then mobo choice can remain the same.

Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 842/Intel Core i7 6700 - RM 1299
Gigabyte H170-HD3 (D4) - RM 486

Total: RM 1382/1785 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

If you plan to go for Xeon then,

Intel Xeon E3 1230 V5 - RM 1211
ASRock E3V5 WS - RM 669 (support Skylake Intel Core i series CPU too)

Total: RM 1880 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

actually is that huge different on Xeon or i7? for future purpose which wan is more worth??
*
i7 6700 still ahead of Xeon E3 1230 V5 due to higher clock speed.

By judging at the price of Xeon + C232 mobo, i7 + B150 is more worth in terms of price/performance.

There are many Xeon variants and we only talked about one of them (1230v5) which has the closest performance with i7, those expensive high end Xeon E5 models are packed with multi-cores and are made for workstation.

as i not going to overclock anything. the best thing is still getting a Xeon + C232 Mobo?

do you heard Gainward before? any recommend graphic card for the spec i getting?
*
Read my statement again, I am saying i7 6700 is ahead of Xeon E3 1230 V5 due to higher clock speed, this is non-oc vs non-oc speed (stock speed).

So getting i7 6700 + B150 is more economical.

Gainward is no longer in Malaysia, don't get any of their leftover stock if you are worried about warranty (according to Idealtech boss a.k.a zhen^wei).

GPU choice is listed in my first quote, please check it out.

Yes, you are correct. i7 6700 and 6700k what is the difference since the price is rm 200 different
*
K CPU is unlocked for overclocking "naturally" but due to some glitch (again), non-K CPU can also be used to overclock via BCLK overclocking.

can i ask which brand of graphic card is better in term of performance or value for money. that is too much brand in the market that offer 970.

beside MSI. which other brand can recommend? EVGA? Asus? Gigabyte?
*
If you want value for money, never look at EVGA, Asus, Gigabyte and MSI, they all are "premium" brand and will cost you more than other brands.

You can try to look for Zotac and Palit card.

Hey guys, I need an idea of a rig I plan on assembling. Your thoughts are much appreciated smile.gif

[Budget] 2000-3000

[Purpose] Gaming (Dota2, The Witcher 3, COD and future games [doesnt have to be in highest graphics quality, but at least average]) & 3D CAD

[Hardwares that will be re-use] None

[Monitor resolution] Require.

[Games & softwares that use frequently] Dota 2, COD, Dragon Age inquisition, 3D CAD designing

[Personal preferences] Just mainly for hardcore gaming in the future. Stopped as my laptop hasnt been able to perform after 4 years of service.

[Location] PJ, Selangor

Personal Question, do recommend which internet wireless card and also a sound card. Sound card as Im an audiophile (beginner) but im not sure if it does play a difference in the sound quality played on more expensive cards.
Sorry if the question seem silly sad.gif Do advice! biggrin.gif

Thank you very much!
*
If you can increase your budget to slightly over 3k, then get this.

Intel Core i5 6400 - RM 828
Gigabyte H110M-DS2 (D4) - RM 290
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 200
Zotac GTX960 2GB GDDR5 ITX - RM 849
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 189
TP-LINK TL-WN881ND PCI-E WiFi - RM 58
Thermaltake Versa H25 - RM 170
Acer S230H FHD - RM 399

Total: RM 3198 (Techview price inclusive of GST)

If cannot, downgrade the CPU to i3 6100.

As for sound card, I suggest you to use the built in one first as your budget is not able to fit it, high end sound card can cost you a bomb.

Hey, thanks for the help. I have another question upon the Intel chips. What's the major diff between Intel Core i5 6400 and Intel Corei i5 4460? From what I saw online, both are of the same price (Took from intel website) however, i5 4460 has a process base frequency of 3.4GHz while i5 6400 has a process base frequency of only 2.7 GHz. Why did you choose 6400 over 4460? Thank you smile.gif
*
It's 6th gen (Skylake) vs 4th gen (Haswell).

Performance difference isn't huge between them but you get DDR4 support by going 6th gen and some of the improvements from Skylake.

If you want to save money, get 4th gen, no problem there, it can save you < RM 100 (most likely).

Thanks your recommendation. any place able to get graphic card that you quoted? i checked All It yday it is much more expensive on the price that you quoted.

btw sorry for asking what is different on H170 Gaming 3 with Killer Lan port. is that good? as yday the sales person asking me to that this mobo instead of B150. but price is different RM 200++ just wondering is that worth or not? for wireless networking as my current use
*
I stated in the quotation, the price is from ETech, you can find the shop in Kepong.

ETech Lelong

ETech FB

Not worth if you aren't using any of the extra features offered by this mobo, the H170-HD3 mobo I suggested is enough for your normal usage.

Killer LAN port is just a market gimmick to solve gaming lag, nothing special if you are going to use WiFi.

lesson learned smile.gif thanks bro, another quick question what is MSI Tiger and MSI Gaming since the price is 200 different only. which i thinking getting gaming instead of tiger and asus 970 all is much different lol.
*
MSI Gaming comes with Twin Frozr cooler and is the highest end GTX970 card for MSI brand, that's why price is more expensive, both of them are GTX970 so performance will be almost identical, the Gaming version might have a higher clock core which yields slightly higher FPS than the Tiger version, but whether it worth the extra RM 200, it depends on you, if you have budget then go for it, if no then just get the Tiger version, you can overclock manually to match what Gaming version can offer.

If you want to save money, no need to look for Asus Strix, MSI Gaming, Gigabyte G1 Gaming/Xtreme, EVGA card.

Noted, thanks for the advice. how about ram? if i use back my old comp ram ADATA 8 GB DDR4, 2133 SODIMM? or i should get UDIMM ram?

i was thinking getting zotac geforce GTX 970 4gb GDDR6 256 bit. since same function with MSI right?
*
SODIMM RAM? That's for laptop one, you need DIMM RAM (UDIMM is also DIMM, U means unbuffered).

Which Zotac version of GTX970? They have reference, AMP, Extreme, Extreme Core etc.

haha. yes but i damn attract on taking MSI 970 gaming due to free Rise of the tomb cd key. do you think worth enough?
*
Zotac card also got free Rise of the Tomb Raider key, you just need to register the product and upload proof of purchase in the redeem portal here to get the code, same goes to other brands.

As I said earlier, if your budget allows to get the MSI Gaming card and you are going for aesthetic purpose, go and get it.

* Aesthetic is priceless * laugh.gif

QUOTE(bl@ze @ Feb 3 2016, 06:05 PM)
Hi sifus can you recommend a mini pc build that can work as a NAS and downloading machine?

Processor need to be quite good to handle transcoding in Plex media center to 2 TVs and multiple tablets and need to be able to hold at least 4 3.5" HDD.

Im a fan of Silverstone cases too especially the small form factor ones.

No monitors needed but it does need fast wifi and bluetooth if possible.

I already have the HDDs btw. Also have some DDR3 ram lying around that i can use.

Budget within 1000-2500.
*
Skylake CPU is not recommended to run DDR3 due to this reason.

I am not sure if you still want to risk it or not, to be safe, I will suggest a new rig based on Skylake with DDR4 RAM instead (new RAM is cheap nowadays).

Intel Core i5 6400 - RM 789
Gigabyte H170N-WiFi - RM 569
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 200
FSP Hexa+ 450W - RM 169
Silverstone GD06B - RM 520

Total: RM 2247 (Techview price inclusive of GST)

Yes
*
Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 848
MSI B150M Bazooka D4 - RM 399
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 200
Zotac GTX960 2GB GDDR5 ITX - RM 849
Kingston HyperX Fury 240GB SSD - RM 385
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 189

Total: RM 2870 (Techview price inclusive of GST)

You can max out your budget by,
1. Upgrade to i7 6700 (not really useful unless heavy workload)
2. Upgrade to GTX970
3. Upgrade to a more decent PSU
4. Upgrade to ATX size mobo

Hi guys what are some cheap z170 boards to consider when building an oc build?
*
If you aren't going for heavy oc on CPU and RAM, then sub-RM 600+/- with 6 power phases design is enough, if you are going to oc to the limit as well as getting a high frequency RAM (> 2133MHz), get those sub-RM 750 and above with 8/10 power phases design.

QUOTE(HayateAyakasi8 @ Feb 4 2016, 10:52 PM)
hehe i know.. but it looks like our currency is going up.. and i will be overclocking

Just minor changes, it won't affect the build much.

actually i dont know which one to pick, i5 6600k setup or i7 6700 non k with a cheap board.
*
What makes you think of getting an oc setup?

If your workload is low and mainly on gaming, then get the i7 6700 with B150 board, oc won't give you significant performance improvements, while the i7 which is having 4 extra threads is more future proof and is able to give the i5 a big slap when the game is utilizing the hyperthreading technology brows.gif

Don't forget, you need to spend extra money on a decent CPU cooler too if you go for 6600K (it doesn't come with any cooler), not to mention you need to spend time and have patience to test the oc settings too so your PC won't crash during gaming/operation.

no lah was thinking about future proofing, like the i5 2500k still packs a punch nowadays after like 5 years. I usually just game on my pc though, so i think i'll get the i7 6700 with b150. Is the igpu enough for dota 2? Because i wanna wait for the new gpus to release then only i'll buy one.  biggrin.gif  thanks

Skylake iGPU (HD 530) is as strong as a GT740/R7 250 so you should be able to run it at medium settings at decent frame rate (1080p).

If your budget is tight and want to have a fast drive, go for Seagate Barracuda, the same price point's WD Blue is slower (7200 vs 5400 RPM).
