QUOTE(Augus7 @ Dec 16 2015, 10:10 AM)
Gents, do review my build, my main purpose is small form factor PC with possibilities of 3D rendering and battlefield 5 (if there is one), and to make use of the RM3k najib gave me as tax rebate

-Intel Core i5-6400 processor -RM840
-Asus H170I-PLUS D3 motherboard -RM550
-Kingston KVR16 8GB ram -RM200
-Western Digital 1TB hard disk drive -RM230
-Bitfenix Prodigy ITX casing -RM330 (do you have a smaller casing idea?)
-Cooler Master Thunder M 520w power supply -RM229

Vga Card im in dilemma...which one is the smaller and better?
Asus GTX750TI 2GB DDR5 -RM599
Asus GTX950 2GB DDR5 -RM720
Priorities:
1. RM3000
2. Small form factor
3. Battlefield 5, AutoCAD, Sony Vegas Rendering
4. LOW POWER CONSUMPTION!
*
Try to avoid DDR3 on Skylake due to this reason.

This build is much better.

Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 876
Gigabyte H170N-WiFi - RM 579
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 200
Zotac GTX960 2GB GDDR5 ITX - RM 799 (Christmas promotion)
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 189
CM Elite 110 - RM 159

Total: RM 3017 (Techview price inclusive of GST)

Does the total cost need to be within 3k? Or slightly over 3k is ok? If need to be < 3k, then downgrade the i5 6500 to i5 6400 (RM 809) or try to ask for discount from the seller (normally will give since you buy full set).

can the benq GL2460 support hdmi ?
*
Add RM 90 for GL2460HM for HDMI port, if this is too expensive for you then you can always buy HDMI-to-DVI/VGA converter, only a couple of bucks.

Or change the monitor to Samsung S24E310HL (RM 539) with native HDMI port support.

[Monitor resolution] full hd

[Games & softwares that use frequently] ms office, illustrator and photoshop

[Personal preferences] nil

Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 876
MSI B150M Bazooka D4 - RM 399
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 200
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 189
Thermaltake Versa H25 - RM 139

Total: RM 2018 (Techview price inclusive of GST)

No dedicated GPU meaning no GPU acceleration aid in Illustrator, add in one later when you have extra funds (I've included a capable PSU which can support med/high end GPU so you don't have to change PSU next time you buy a GPU).

need recommendation for Motherboard and processor that can match well or with better upgrade capability for my current GPU : R9 280x Toxic.

Budget is around 1-2k (preferably with explanation why this mobo/processor over that)

Thank you

Games : Assassin creed 3, battlefield 4, and all future high end graphic games.
*
Intel Core i7 6700 - RM 1349 [More future proof with hyperthreading (extra 4 threads compared to i5)]
MSI B150M Bazooka D4 - RM 399 [One of the cheapest B150 chipset mobo's with 4 RAM slots]
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 200 [Picked value RAM because only Z series mobo allow > 2133MHz, so no need to waste money to get RAM which has speed > 2133MHz]

Want to save money? Downgrade to i5 6400/6500.

Want more PCI-E slots, RAID, NVMe support? Upgrade to H170 mobo.

Want a more beautiful looking RAM? Add some money and get Kingston HyperX Fury series RAM.

QUOTE(FaezFarhan @ Dec 16 2015, 02:26 PM)
Ah I see. No use in getting the high speed rams then. Only very expensive keyboard supports higher than 2133Mhz.
*
Keyboard?!?! laugh.gif

Only Z series mobo supports > 2133MHz for DDR4.

QUOTE(siewlong @ Dec 16 2015, 03:15 PM)
Hey guys, this is my first time building a rig and I need some advice.

[Budget] RM 3 - 3.2k (would prefer to keep it below 3k but will spend a bit more if it makes a large difference in performance)

[Purpose] Gaming & Working

[Hardwares that will be re-use] Keyboard & mouse

[Monitor resolution] 1920 x 1080 (full hd)

[Games & softwares that use frequently] Witcher 3, Fallout 4, CS:GO, Matlab, PTC Creo

[Personal preferences]

This is what I came up with after reading a couple of reviews around the forum

Intel Core i5-4460 - RM 805
KINGSTON HYPERX FURY 8GB DDR3 1866MHZ RAM - RM 179
Zotac GTX960 2GB GDDR5 ITX - RM 799 (Christmas promotion)
WD Blue 2TB HDD - RM 309
FSP HEXA+ 550W 80Plus Power Supply - RM 189
Thermaltake Versa H21 - RM 139

*All prices obtained from Techview

I'm not sure what mobo to use and please recommend a good quality full hd monitor (preferably below RM700)
I can reduce hdd to 1TB and save about RM100 for other components.
Also please recommend anywhere within Penang Island where I can get better rates.
[Location] Penang Island
*
You can look for hikari85, she owns a shop in Butterworth, name GTech, but price and product range will be different than what I suggested here.

Intel Core i5 6400 - RM 809
MSI H110M Pro-VH - RM 329
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 200
Zotac GTX960 2GB GDDR5 ITX - RM 799 (Christmas promotion)
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 189
Thermaltake Versa H21 - RM 139
BenQ GW2255 - RM 390

Total: RM 3070 (Techview price inclusive of GST)

Oh dayum, motherboard I meant.. Hahahaha!

What's the cheapest Z series you can find? Probably around rm800-900? Too much I suppose. But I don't like the 'naked' value rams sweat.gif
*
You can look for Kingston HyperX Fury series RAM, just around RM 30 - RM 50 more expensive than value RAM, much cheaper than getting a Z series mobo.

Thankyou!
I would also like to ask, how much room do I have for upgrades with this build? Can I do any significant upgrades (better/SLI VGA , more ram, ssd etc) before needing to change my motherboard/PSU?
And how important is a sound card? Do I need one?
*
SLI requires Z series mobo which is out of your budget reach.

As for RAM, the mobo has 2 RAM slots, so if you are getting 1 x 8GB now, you can upgrade to 16GB next time by adding another 8GB, if you need more RAM slots, go for MSI B150M Bazooka D4 (RM 399, 4 RAM slots).

SSD (SATA) can be added anytime.

PSU is fine, unless you go for high end GPU/SLI/CF setup, the current selected PSU is able to handle most of the hardware/future upgrade.

Sound card is optional, on-board sound card is decent enough for normal usage, only get a dedicated sound card if you want better sound quality or not satisfied with the on-board sound card.

Not necessary if not heavy multitasking or doing rendering work.

I see. Wonder if I should wait a bit more and get the i7 6700 instead.. Hmm
*
Light gaming and usage, i5 is enough. i7 needs another RM 500 more for the extra 4 threads which is not fully usable on all games/software unless they support it, if not really into heavy workload like rendering then don't put burden on your wallet sweat.gif

I'm really sorry, I just managed to get a really good deal on an i7-4790k processor. Could you please recommend a 1150 mobo within the same price range instead?  blush.gif
I'm also planning to use WiFi since the router is one floor below my room. Do I need to get a network card or does it come built in with the mobo?
*
Do you plan to overclock the i7 4790K?

QUOTE(gmhafiz @ Dec 17 2015, 03:13 AM)
Oh my, according to http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidi.../m12582vsm33102 you are right. So dell xps 8900 is a scam.

Any other good cheaper 1440p monitor?
*
QHD monitor choice is very little in Malaysia.

Dell U2515H - RM 1409, but it is 25 inch.

I am not sure how you allocate your budget now (that i7 is in your budget?), if budget is tight, get a B85 (around RM 300+/-), if budget is not an issue, go for H170 (RM 400+/-).

Budget will still be the same. A friend offered to sell me his 4th gen i7 for RM800 cause he's upgrading to the new 6th gen i7  biggrin.gif
Will take look into those mobos. Those come with built in WiFi?
*
Only very high end (flagship mobo) and mITX mobo come with WiFi card, for others, you will have to buy either internal (PCI-E based) or external (USB based) WiFi adapter to connect to WiFi.

Intel Core i7 4790K - RM 800 (from your friend)
ASRock H97 Pro4 - RM 375
Corsair 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Value RAM - RM 169
Leadtek GTX960 2GB GDDR5 Winfast - RM 839
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 209
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 188
TP-LINK TL-WN881ND PCI-E WiFi - RM 63
Bitfenix NOVA - RM 149
BenQ GW2255 - RM 389

Hello,

I have bought MSI H170 gaming M3 mobo, and i5 6600, as suggested by the salesman too.
thumbup.gif  for the recommendation
but now I have a problem, they don't really have Corsair (mayb its too cheap or something) so they're only left with G.skill ripjaw DDR4 or HyperX Fury DDR4, price difference of gskill abit more pricey by 2SGD (i'm in SG).

Which is better and any specific reason? or not much difference and I should just get ripjaw because the jaw are simply too coooool.

Thanks !

yes i think same, both was 2133 or 2400 mhz DDR4

another main concern is regarding motherboard

i am currently using ASUS P7P55-M
and i am changing to this MSI H170 gaming M3.
by myself.

What are the things that i should be looking out for when installing the mother board between the 2?
i.e. are there more USB port in new mobo that i need to put new cable?

are there anything that i need to change for new mobo like PSU? (currently using 520W seasonic)
*
All follow the previous mobo setup, USB header (2.0 or 3.0) is depend on the amount of USB available in your current case.

PSU can remain as well.

As for RAM, you will only get 2133MHz no matter what speed you are buying, so either one is fine as long as it fits your budget.

i5 3470

sapphire 7870 2gb graphic card
8gb ram
currently the rig lag when rendering videos. Means, i can't multi task while rendering.. which sucks. Any advice from sifu for which component to upgrade?

my budget is around rm1k-1.5k. 2nd hand components are acceptable

Get an used i7 3770 and upgrade your RAM to 16GB.

tq, can a i7 3770 use back the same mobo? btw.. same ghz, but since its 8core, should i expect alot of difference?
*
Can, that's why I suggest it to you.

Not same speed, your i5's base clock is 3.2GHz, boost is 3.6GHz while this i7's base clock is 3.4GHz, boost is 3.9GHz.

And it is not 8 cores also, it is quad core with extra 4 threads compared to i5. Difference is quite significant if the software you use is coded to utilize the hyperthreading technology of i7.

Will the replacement models for GTXxxx series come out soon? What's the life cycle of Nvidia GTX cards?
*
Due to out in Q1/Q2 2016. Life cycle is different for each series because there is no fixed timeline on how Nvidia rolls out new series.

Hi, i would like to have your suggestion on my current PC spec for upgrade

here is my PC spec:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83Ghz
ASUS P5Q SE Plus
ASUS Nvidia GTX670 4GB
ACBEL 1100W R9 PSU
RAM size: 6GB DDR2
HDD size: 640GB
casing: Cooler Master RC-335 Elite Medium Tower Case
Monitor: Samsung 18.5" Syncmaster

[Budget]
RM 2000 - RM 2500

[Hardwares that will be re-use]
ASUS Nvidia GTX670 4GB
ACBEL 1100W R9 PSU
HDD size: 640GB
casing: Cooler Master RC-335 Elite Medium Tower Case
Monitor: Samsung 18.5" Syncmaster

[Monitor resolution]
1360 X 768

[Personal preferences]
Intel Skylake Processor and motherboard that goes well with my graphic card and casing (my GPU just barely able to fit in the casing before buying it  laugh.gif )
a new medium tower casing in case if my current casing is not fit in with the new motherboard

[Location]
Penang
Thank you for your time.
*
Your case can fit ATX and mATX so no issue there, GPU slot clearance is depend on the case, next time you need to know your current GPU's length and compare it with the clearance available before buying new case.

Intel Core i7 6700 - RM 1389
Gigabyte H170 Gaming 3 - RM 579
Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB DDR4 2400MHz Value RAM - RM 239

Total: RM 2207 (Techview price inclusive of GST)

You didn't state your usage so I assume it is for gaming. Since your budget can fit an i7 so I opted for it, you can consider getting a new monitor too, the current one isn't 1080p and size is quite small for me sweat.gif

hi terence_nwb,
thank you for your suggestion.

I was wondering that my previous PSU (ACBEL 660W), is the suggested rig still able to power it? I encountered the PC was a bit slow to power on and thus the 1100W was purchased to solve the issue for power boot up.

as for the monitor, I do say that it is small due to my workstation size and I tend to upgrade it another time as the 23 - 24" monitor is over my current upgrade budget. I tend to upgrade it when the time comes.
*
Should have no issue, but I don't think PSU will slow down boot time though, if you mean after you press the power button and you need to wait a few seconds before you see components start lighting up/spinning, then something might be wrong with your PSU. But if you mean your PC is very slow to get into Windows after booting up (suck at starting Windows screen), then try to get a SSD, it improves booting time by quite a big margin over old HDD.

Hi Guys

Just CPU for dota

Processor i3-6100
Graphic R7 370 NITRO Dual-X OC 4GB / 256BIT
Ram Preferred ddr4

or use i5 6400 igpu first and upgrade later?

Can help me to choose for other hardware? Total cost around how much?
*
i3 is more than enough for Dota 2.

Below is one of the cheapest paths to get Skylake i3 + DDR4 RAM to run Dota 2 at max settings stable 60 FPS.

Intel Core i3 6100 - RM 510
MSI H110M Pro-VH - RM 329
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 200
PowerColor R9 270 2GB GDDR5 TurboDuo - RM 529
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 189
Thermaltake Versa H25 - RM 139

Total: RM 2111 (Techview price inclusive of GST)

The iGPU (HD 530) of Skylake is just slightly slower than R7 250 (GDDR5 ver) which is able to push out almost 60 FPS in 1080p max settings (except heavy team fight), so I guess you can live with iGPU if you want i5 for now.
