[Budget] below 4.5k

[Purpose] Mainly for Gaming, also Illustration and animation, if possible there will be video editing

[Hardwares that will be re-use] N/A

[Monitor resolution] 1080p, 1980x1020

[Games & softwares that use frequently]
-Adobe CS6 ( Ps, Fl )
-CSGO, Dota2( very low settings only )
-Fallout4, Skyrim, GTA4/5 (alr own but haven’t start to play or barely can play it)

[Personal preferences]
I’m using HP Pavillion g4 laptop for 3 years and need a new PC. I have been looking for Intel/Nvidia build with Great Performance since I keep using old AMD product for whole life.
Not sure that should I go for Skylake build or Gen4 build cuz some company still selling Intel Gen4 CPU. I asked some of my friends’ recommendation and here’s my Skylake(LGA 1151) build. I don’t really care about customize on CPU Lighting or overclocking/SLI or others, just want to play triple A games with mid-high graphic setting.

MotherBoard: MSI H170 Gaming Pro/M3 (ATX,LGA 1151, wants more USB)
CPU: Intel i5-6500
GPU: MSI Nvidia GTX 960
HDD: WD Black 1TB
RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury DDR4 2x4GB
(total cost around RM2.8k)

***PSU, Casing, Monitor, Keyboard still needed for recommendation. (also count in budget plz)
*Speaker and Cooler are optional if the budget still in there.(cuz my friend said Cooler don’t needed for Intel??)
**Intel Gen4/5 build also ok to suggest. If you guys want to.

[Location] KL

I will always appreciate you guys if this is really helped!!
*
Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 876
Gigabyte H170 Gaming 3 - RM 589

Where can I find the promotion??

thanks for SSD suggest but I don't really need it rn cuz all of my personal files are stored in External HDD (I have 2) that's why Im looking for motherboard with lots of USBs.

oh I forgot about one thing, since Im far far away from Modem(my room just a opposite site to another room cuz there's a another basic use Desktop) so should I buy wifi slot or USB wifi slot??
*
The price listed is from Techview, located in Jaya One, PJ.

SSD is to enable fast boot and speed up operation, but it is totally optional and can ignore it if not needed. Remember SSD > HDD.

PCI-E WiFi adapter is always better than USB one in terms of reliability and signal strength, but it is slightly expensive than USB one.

what about the Win OS? 8.1 or 10?

thanks guys I will recount the budget now
*
Windows price is very hard to track because it tends to change every single week/month and price tag is also different for each shop/purchasing channel, official MSRP for Windows 10 Home and Pro is RM 629.99 and RM 1099 respectively FYI. You will need to find other cheaper alternatives if you want to get it at cheaper price, i.e. OEM key or bulk key, but beware of counterfeit key.

Is OEM reuseable? I have windows 7 OEM for laptop and did a reformat once.
what's counterfeit key?
*
OEM can only be activated and used once, meaning once activated, it will only work on the same hardware (mostly mobo S/N tied).

Counterfeit key is non-genuine key, or "fake" key, some of them are too cheap to be true, always check for the seller's reputation and customer's feedback from making payment.

QUOTE(FaezFarhan @ Dec 14 2015, 03:33 PM)
Opps sorry, R9 380x. But after surfing the net a bit last night, found out that the R9 cards need double to amount of power compared to the GTX960/970 cards.

http://www.lelong.com.my/sapphire-nitro-r9...6-11-Sale-P.htm

Yea, the B150 one. What is the difference between B150 & B170?

Sorry, I have left the hardware community for so long. Was an avid hardware fan until the HD4850/4870 era. Then I bought a Macbook Air and after that a ps4. Left it until today and I am left behind completely now in the hardware community. Will try my best to learn as fast as possible.
*
Yep, AMD card requires more power compared to same tier's Nvidia card, so if you want to get AMD card, you are advised to top up some money for better PSU.

The difference between B150 and H170 isn't huge, H170 can support up to 8 USB 3.0 ports (support still based on manufacturer though) and RAID support etc. You can just get B150 chipset mobo if you are not going to use the features offered by H170, B150 is slightly cheaper than H170 in overall.

Learning needs time so no worries, take your time nod.gif

I see, instead of adding money for a better PSU, I think it's wiser to go for the GTX970. Haha! I can minus the HDD from the list because I have 2 500gb HDDs from my old PC and use the money for the graphic card, or probably better ram.

Would the i5 6400 bottleneck the GTX970?

Yeah, I don't think I will be using all those features so the B150 would be enough. Thank you so much for all the help btw, very helpful indeed 😁
*
An i5 can hardly bottleneck a GTX970 but it still has to depend on what games you play, those CPU demanding games will likely to hit max usage on all cores.

i5 6400 is 0.5GHz slower than i5 6500 (base clock), you can consider to upgrade to i5 6500 for slightly better base clock performance.

I see, okay. Will go for the i5 6500, or i5 6600 if my budget allows. Is the Zotac GTX970 good enough? Rm600 difference from the GTX960.
*
Not necessary to get i5 6600 because the price tag is too high, I recommend i5 6500 most of the time is because of the huge base clock increase from i5 6400 at reasonable price.

GTX970 is almost twice the performance of GTX960, I will go for GTX970 anytime soon for double VRAM and more "future proof" reason, totally a sweet spot for almost-max settings gaming experience for 1080p resolution at the moment.

Hey thanks for the reply. Looking at the xeon and the new i5 6600k price point and benchmark, the skylake processor seems better and cheaper by RM200. However, that will go to the additional DDR4 RAMs that which cost around RM150 per 4gb and addition RM300 for the skylake mobo. Hmmm. Nevertheless, interesting suggestion. Thank you very much Terence.  smile.gif

You will notice the difference when the software/app utilizes the hyperthreading feature of 4C8T CPU, but most of them are still single threaded, you barely feel any difference as of now.

[Budget]
~rm4000

[Purpose]
Light photo editing, facebook

[Hardwares that will be re-use]
none

[Monitor resolution]
4k

[Games & softwares that use frequently]
picasa. no games

[Personal preferences]
no apple

[Location]
kl

This is what I have in mind:
i5 4460 RM699
gigabyte B85m d3h RM399
kingston ram 1600mhz 2x4gb RM266
western digital green 1tb RM290
Asus gtx 750 RM589
please recommend a psu ~RM300
please recommend a simple case ~ RM150
please recommend a 23"-27" 4k monitor.

Total RM2693 + 4k monitor (price from all it)

This is for my mother who will be using it for simple photo editing and web browsing. She wants a nice 4k monitor too. I am thinking of adding a samsung 850 evo 120gb (Rm360) too but I have no idea which monitor to pick. Cheaper 4k monitor is obviously better but it has to be at least as good as her old non-4k 21.5" imac

I prefer buying from established shop, so no cod.
*
I think the price listed by you is abit outdated, i5 4460 is no longer below RM 700 range now.

Intel Core i5 4460 - RM 779
ASRock H81M-VG4 - RM 219
Kingston 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Value RAM - RM 179
Leadtek GTX750 2GB GDDR5 OC - RM 499
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 219
FSP Hexa+ 450W - RM 159
Thermaltake Versa H25 - RM 149
Samsung U28E590DS UHD TN - RM 1899

Total: RM 4102 (Viewnet price inclusive of GST)

If you want to get other GPU model, please make sure it has at least 1 DisplayPort, if not you cannot output 4K @60Hz, the display panel is TN panel, whose colour is abit washed out if compared to IPS, some serious photo editors will prefer IPS for the rich colour reproduction and accuracy on sRGB.

And the RAM please get 1 x 8GB stick instead of 2 x 4GB sticks because you will stuck at 8GB if you do so (mobo only has 2 RAM slots).

SSD is not able to fit into the budget, add it later when you have extra funds or top up to get it.

[Purpose = purely gaming]

[Personal preferences = able to support all high end pc games]

*
No hardware to reuse? So I assume monitor is included in the budget then.

Intel Core i5 4460 - RM 805
Asus H81M-K - RM 240
Corsair 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Value RAM - RM 169
Zotac GTX960 2GB GDDR5 ITX - RM 799 (Christmas promotion)
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 189
Thermaltake Versa H25 - RM 139
AOC I2360SD IPS - RM 499

Total: RM 3055 (Techview price inclusive of GST)

Suggesting Haswell instead of Skylake mainly because Haswell is more friendly towards your budget, of course you can upgrade to Skylake with top up of nearly RM 200+/-.

It is able to support all high end games, but definitely not highest settings.

Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 200
Kingston HyperX Fury 240GB SSD - RM 399
FSP Hexa+ 450W - RM 155

Samsung DVD-RW SATA ODD - RM 62
Thermaltake Versa H25 - RM 139

Total: RM 1852 (Techview price inclusive of GST)

There are many ways to tweak the build for your usage, i.e get a smaller size SSD (120GB) and use the extra money for a dedicated GPU or downgrade to Haswell i3 (cheaper) then you can get a dedicated GPU while maintaining the SSD size, since you didn't mention HDD for storage, so I only include SSD.

thanks terence for the prompt reply and yeah monitor is included.
plan to build from scratch so include everything.

btw if let's say i want to play with high settings, what would be the spec you suggest and the estimated budget.
*
It depends on game, if the optimization is good, GTX960 can play high settings without major FPS issue, but if you want more headroom or future proof, get at least a GTX970 (top up RM 600), performance is almost twice of GTX960.

Edit: I assume your high settings is around 75% of the max available graphical settings of the game, 100% means AA has to be MSAA which will use a lot of GPU power to achieve it (and also other settings which I didn't include but MSAA is one of the most headache settings for GPU to handle).

QUOTE(st4Lk3rz @ Dec 15 2015, 05:09 PM)
I see back to suggesting Thermaltake Versa H25 as the casing. Why the change from Bitfinex Nova though?
*
Some people complain the Nova lacks of 2 exhaust fan slots on the top of the case, so I changed it back sweat.gif

[Budget] : RM 7000-7500
[Purpose] : Will be using for android app dev, video/photo editing, gaming
[Hardware that will be re-use] : mouse/keyboard/speaker.
[Games & software that use frequently]: Android studio, visio studio, adobe af/ai/ps/dw, and whatnot dota and other triple a games.

Hello sifus, so im going to building this beast and the parts that was in mind is :

CPU :I7 6700k - RM 1549
MOBO : MSI Z170A GAMING PRO - RM 859
RAM : Corsair D4 VG PC2400 C14 x1 ,8gb - RM 249
HDD : WD Blue 1TB - RM 219
SSD : Kingston HYPER X FURY (500M/500M) - RM 214
Cooler : CORSAIR HYDRO H100I - RM 499
Case : S340 - Around RM 320
Monitor : Benq GL2460 x2 - RM 998 (or you could recommend a better dual setup)
*PSU : ?? was thinking of going for corsair CX 750w (RM 389) but ive read that it wont be enuf for crossfire. I will be going for sli/crossfire in the future, so a future proof psu would be nice - RM ??
*GPU : ?? (Gtx 970/R9 390x)  - RM ??

(Price from viewnet)
Total for RM 4907 for now.

I cant quite figure out what gpu and psu to get, so im asking the sifu here for any improvement, even if its adding rm50 more for a better overall performance.

Or you just could just give me a better list if mine is somewhat not bang for the buck.
*
Intel Core i7 6700K - RM 1599
ASRock Z170 Extreme 4 - RM 799
Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB DDR4 2666MHz RAM - RM 279
Zotac GTX970 4GB GDDR5 ZT-90101-10P - RM 1449
Kingston HyperX Fury 240GB SSD - RM 405
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 209
Corsair Hydro H100i GTX - RM 521
CM V850 - RM 715
NZXT S340 - RM 330

Total: RM 6306 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

I'd go for thin bezel monitor for dual/triple monitor setup like BenQ EW2440L/AOC i2369VM/Dell S2316H/Dell U2414H (they are not listed in the build yet).

Just to remind you that single GPU is always better than SLI/CF, this is because SLI/CF requires driver support and you will end up running single GPU for those games without SLI/CF support.

Going for a more powerful single card requires less power and non Z series mobo than multiple cards setup, thus reducing the total cost.

This is one of the cheapest X99 builds that you can get, SSD (optional) and case aren't included yet.

You can top up and get a better CPU cooler, mobo, higher speed RAM etc to "fully" unleash the power of the build laugh.gif

You can always build a custom one within your budget with all the peripherals included.

Intel Core i7 6700K - RM 1549
Asus Z170 Pro Gaming - RM 759
Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB DDR4 2400MHz RAM - RM 239

Corsair Carbide Spec-01 - RM 240
BenQ GL2460 - RM 499
Logitech MK200 Wired Combo - RM 65

Total: RM 6032 (Techview price inclusive of GST)

If mainly for gaming, no need to go for overclockable rig, spend the money on GPU and other parts better.

Refined build.

GT730 is weaker than the iGPU of Skylake (HD 530) so just use the iGPU, no need to buy any dedicated GPU.
