i would like to assemble one HTPC or mATX for space saving purpose
purpose: surfing internet, home theater, photo editing
Currently having i6700 on hand.
Budget 1.5k, i think IRIS 6100 graphic should work fine for me.

Motherboard:
Ram:
HDD:
PSU:
Casing:

Thanks guys.
*
Just go for mITX, mATX case is quite big actually.

Gigabyte H170N-WiFi - RM 589
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 200
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
FSP Hexa+ 450W - RM 155
CM Elite 110 - RM 159

Total: RM 1318 (Techview price inclusive of GST)

You can add a 120GB SSD or another 8GB RAM since you have budget left.

Let me know if you think you are going to stick with mATX and I'll resuggest.

hi guys, i'm looking to build a rig for my lil' brother.

[Budget] 1.8K to 2K

[Purpose]
Low to Medium res gaming

[Hardwares that will be re-use] monitor 19" widescreen

[Monitor resolution] no need monitor

[Games & softwares that use frequently] Fifa, Dota, LOL, WoT

[Personal preferences] Need to see both AMD and Intel spec pricing

[Location] Subang

Thanks in advance
*
Intel is better in gaming so no point choosing AMD for now. Will use Haswell (4th gen) instead of Skylake (6th gen) due to budget issue.

Intel Core i3 4160 - RM 487
Asus H81M-K - RM 240
Corsair 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Value RAM - RM 169
Leadtek GTX750 2GB GDDR5 WinFast - RM 485
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 189
Bitfenix NOVA - RM 149

thanks bro.. btw what's the price difference if im choosin skylake over haswell?

also that mobo can support i5 too, right?
*
Performance difference is small. And yes the mobo can support up to i7.

If you want Skylake, then follow st4Lk3rz's suggestion.

Done some survey, thinking to get silverstone SG02 with usb3.0
Currently, i do have a 2TB WD green HDD. Probably i can get a 120GB SSD.
what brand you would suggest for the SSD?
Also for the MOBO, do i still stick with Gigabyte H170N-WiFi if i get SG02 case?
*
SG02 is mATX case, you can swap to mATX mobo like MSI B150M Bazooka D4 (RM 399).

For RM 2xx range, you can pick Samsung 750 EVO 120GB (new series), Kingston HyperX Fury 120GB (RM 229), Transcend 370 128GB (RM 249) etc.

no problem, thanks bro.
one more question, for this spec if watching those blue ray HD movie should be no problem right?
*
Should be fine for 720/1080p, if you are worried, then top up and get an i3 (+RM 200) for smoother playback.

Hello guys.

Just need some suggestion. I'm planning to upgrade my pc for 3d architecture visualization purposes, that's mean it's gonna be a lot of 3d modelling task and a lot of V-Ray rendering. My desktop specification is as stated in my signature. I would prefer to change to Xeon proc while maintaining my mobo, and preferably upgrade to 32gb ram if my budget is allowable to do so.

Budget is around 3k.

Thanks sifu!
*
Your mobo socket is LGA1155, it is pretty hard to find new Ivy/Sandy Bridge Xeon E3 CPU now. Your mobo can support Xeon E3 (max) so the highest end Xeon E3 you can take is quad core eight threads, so in return you can consider 2nd hand i7 3770 which is similar as Xeon E3 but at higher clock speed, price will be slightly higher than Xeon E3 1230 V2.

If you change mobo then you can go to Skylake i7 6700 + H170/B150 + 32GB RAM, the total cost will be under 3k.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Is it possible to upgrade the gpu as well within the budget (reselling my current cpu/gpu)? At least with better vram since nowadays real-time-3d rendering is a thing now (which is gpu-heavy-oriented).
*
Yes you can, you can add an additional of ~RM 800 to RM 1000 to your current budget by selling off your CPU and GPU.

I assume after you sold off your current item, you will have a total of 4k budget.

Intel Core i7 6700 - RM 1349
MSI B150M Bazooka D4 - RM 399
Corsair 32GB (8GB x 4) DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 800
Zotac GTX970 4GB GDDR5 Reference - RM 1399 (Christmas Promotion)

Total: RM 3947 (Techview price inclusive of GST)

Hi sifus, im going to build a gaming rig by Christmas and I need some suggestions, thanks.

[Budget] RM 3500

[Purpose] Gaming

[Hardwares that will be re-use] None

[Monitor resolution] 1080P

[Games & softwares that use frequently] Fallout 4, GTAV

[Personal preferences] AMD r9 390

[Location] KL
*
Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 809
MSI H110M PRO-VH - RM 329
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 200
MSI R9 390 8GB GDDR5 Gaming - RM 1559
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 219
Seasonic M12II EVO 620W - RM 409
Thermaltake Versa H25 - RM 139

Total: RM 3664 (Techview price inclusive of GST)

Your budget cannot fit R9 390, I used the cheapest Skylake i5 and lowest end H110 mobo in this build but still over budget sweat.gif

Due to power hungry status of R9 390, you have to spend more on PSU which jack up the total price.

And this build still not yet include a monitor.

If downgrade to Haswell, you can save around RM 100 but still over budget.

Either you pick GTX970 (will cost around RM 3650 with 22" BenQ Full HD monitor included) or go GTX960/R9 380/R9 380X.

hi guys, any significant & noticeable difference between ddr3 and ddr4 rams?
*
Very little actually but since the price of DDR3 and DDR4 is very close already now so no reason to pick the older DDR3 when you perform an upgrade to Skylake.

[Budget] RM 2500

Not all the games you listed can run on high settings (only Dota 2 can) with 2.5k budget, especially when no hardware to reuse, meaning you need to allocate roughly RM 400 - RM 500 for monitor and other peripherals.

Intel Core i3 6100 - RM 510
MSI H110M Pro-VH - RM 329
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 200
PowerColor R9 270 2GB GDDR5 TurboDuo - RM 529
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 189
Bitfenix NOVA - RM 149
BenQ GW2255 - RM 390

Total: RM 2511 (Techview price inclusive of GST)

thanks for the suggestions! erm.. is it better to buy another cpu cooler than using the stock cooler?
also, i got this quote from another retailer..any opinions or advice(especially on meeting the budget requirements) ?

intel core i7-6700 = RM 1378
asus maximus viii ranger mainboard = RM 1077
corsair vengeance lpx 16gb (8gb x2) = RM 482
samsung 850evo 240gb ssd = RM 445
asus gtx970 4gb dcu ii strix graphic card = RM 1899
corsair 600c atx casing = RM 640
corsair rm750i power supply = RM 713
total = RM 6634 ( its over budget)
*
Which seller quoted you this spec? laugh.gif

Asus Maximus VIII Ranger on locked i7? Seriously, I am pretty sure this seller is either no idea how to use a Z170 mobo or he just want to "scam" your money.

And you don't need 16GB RAM for now and not performance RAM either, not useful and will create burden to your budget only.

Asus GTX970 Strix with a price tag of RM 1899 makes it not worth the money, you can top up few hundred for GTX980 or get a better R9 390X with such price already.

Case and PSU are overpriced too. I have no idea why the seller is trying to promote all the expensive and overpriced stuffs to you when your budget is only 5k.

Don't fall for it doh.gif

Stock cooler is fine for locked CPU, only get 3rd party cooler if you aren't satisfied with the temperature.

Hi, between the CM Extreme Power Plus 500W or the FSP Saga 2 500W, which is a better and more reliable choice?

Both are quite aged PSU. Based on some quick readings online, both should be around the same quality.

Where do you find these 2 ancients BTW? laugh.gif

Kind of wishful thinking laugh.gif

1.5k is too less for the rest of the parts, the cheapest Z170 SLI capable mobo is already costing you half of your available budget.

can suggest RM2.5k rig for purpose of using Autocad, D2Rstudios and gaming for my cousin including monitor

Intel Core i5 4460 - RM 779
ASRock H81M-VG4 - RM 219
Adata 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Value RAM - RM 169
Leadtek GTX750 2GB GDDR5 OC - RM 499

Thermaltake Versa H25 - RM 139
BenQ GL2023A - RM 309

Total: RM 2532 (Viewnet price inclusive of GST)

Monitor resolution is not Full HD, top up RM 100 for 21.5' BenQ GW2255 1080p monitor or other monitor at equivalent price.

If gaming priority is higher than AutoCAD, D2RStudios etc, you can downgrade the i5 to i3 and swap to a better GPU like GTX950/GTX960 etc.

QUOTE(warchylde @ Dec 10 2015, 03:02 PM)
Hi guys and Sifus!

I have more or less decided on my choice build. (thanks to guidance and advice from vandoren and  terence_nwb  thumbup.gif ).
Just wanted to put it out here for more opinions and advice!

From Idealtech:

CPU: INTEL CORE I7 6700 (4 CORE/ 8 THREADS/4.0GHZ) = RM 1325
CPU COOLER: CRYORIG H7 (145MM) = RM189
MOBO: GIGABYTE H170-GAMING 3 = RM539
RAM: GSKILL RipjawsV RED 2x4GB DDR4 2400mhz (CL15) = RM329
GPU: EVGA GTX970 ACX 2.0+ (Dual BIOS) 4GB DDR5 256Bit (1178/7010) = RM1599
PSU: Seasonic S12II-620 EVO (80+Bronze/ Non Modular) = RM299
CASE: Sharkoon BW9000 (BLACK) = RM299
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB = RM509

TOTAL: RM5088 ( slightly over-budget but I can live with it whistling.gif )

I'm gonna reuse my keyboard+mouse, monitor, optical drive, and a few SATA HDDs.

So, what do you guys think?
I have until this weekend to confirm my choice. icon_question.gif

PS: Since I'm most likely ordering from Idealtech and I'm not going back to KL until Tuesday next week, is it beter to confirm order now or wait till last minute? ( in case of further price drops brows.gif )
*
According to zhen^wei from Idealtech, the Seasonic S12II 620W unit failure rate is quite high for latest batch (lots of RMA/warranty claim), switch to Seasonic M12II EVO 620W better.

QUOTE(FaezFarhan @ Dec 10 2015, 05:12 PM)
I already have a casing. So I can use it for the ram perhaps. Is the latest i5 expensive? The one with DDR4.
*
Your current casing is ATX form factor, or at least mATX? (Just have to make sure it can fit the mobo)

Intel Core i5 6400 - RM 809
MSI H110M Pro-VH - RM 329
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 200
Zotac GTX960 2GB GDDR5 ZT-90310-10M - RM 799
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 189

Total: RM 2541 (Techview price inclusive GST)

Latest Skylake i5 is same price as Haswell i5, the problem is the mobo which can support DDR4 is expensive, the lowest end chipset (H110) with DDR4 support is going to cost you RM 329, which is significantly more expensive than DDR3 based mobo.
