Hi guys,
[Budget] RM4500

[Purpose] Gaming

[Hardwares that will be re-use] 22" 16
:10 Monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers

[Personal preferences] Simple black/dark casing with good airflow. Plan to get from Idealtech. Would like this build to last quite a few years, my current PC is now 8 years old.
*
Intel Core i7 6700 - RM 1375
ASRock B150M-HDV D4 - RM 399
GSKill NT 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 249
EVGA GTX970 4GB GDDR5 ACX 2.0+ - RM 1699
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 219
Seasonic M12II EVO 620W - RM 409
Bitfenix NOVA - RM 149

Total: RM 4499 (Idealtech price inclusive of GST)

If you want ATX size mobo (current one is mATX), upgrade to Gigabyte H170 Gaming 3 (RM 589) for more PCI-E and RAM slots and downgrade the PSU to FSP Hexa+ 550W (RM 199).

If you want SSD to be included, downgrade the PSU to FSP Hexa+ 550W (RM 199) and GPU to Palit GTX970 4GB GDDR5 Reference (RM 1579) to get a Samsung 850 EVO 120GB SSD (RM 329).

Thanks. If I downgrade the CPU for the SSD and ATX mobo is it ok?
*
Yup of course ok, just to remind you that i5 is 4 cores 4 threads while i7 is 4 cores 8 threads, I saw you wrote "last for quite a few years" so I suggested i7 instead since your budget is somehow able to fit it, current games are still not optimized to use the extra threads of i7 but future games with DX12 will nod.gif

But in overall, i5 still a beast for current games and you shouldn't face any issue if the games aren't that CPU demanding.

[Purpose] Gaming ( don't care if i have to play medium settings)

[Games & softwares that use frequently] Will buy Witcher 3 and Fallout 4

[Location] Putrajaya

[Personal preference] can i get gtx 960 or used r9 280x with 2k?
*
Witcher 3 and Fallout 4 are open world games, so they are pretty demanding on CPU part, with your budget, you cannot fit an i5 and GTX960.

The cheapest GTX960 is around RM 810 (Zotac Single Fan version), add Haswell i3 + cheapest H81 mobo + 8GB RAM, total up is around RM 1700 already, HDD, PSU and casing not yet added, so in conclusion your budget cannot get GTX960 or R9 280X just yet, you need to save more money.

And yea, if you don't have a monitor now, prepare at least RM 3000.

terence_nwb Hi sifu. It's me again.
Can you suggest me a good version of GTX960 with max budget RM950?
I heard that Zotac is loud..And Leadtek is not bringing in more supplies for GTX960.

Also can you recommend me good CPU cooler to go with i5 6500?
*
MSI Tiger or Gigabyte Windforce OC (Dual Fan version), should be around RM 920+/-.

And about cooler, stock cooler should be fine but if you insist to get a cooler then you can try Cryorig H7, CM Hyper 212X etc, but I still think stock cooler will do the job just fine for locked i5, save the money for future upgrade or other purpose is better in my opinion.

2GB or 4GB doesn't matter right?

If i stretch my budget enough to  buy i5 6600k + with Gigabyte Windforce OC, I can go for the cooler since for OC yea?
This will be my first overclocking though..

Is this set up good enough?

(previous --> current in mind)

Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-B150M-D3H INTEL LGA1151 M-ATX MAINBOARD -> ASUS Z170M-PLUS INTEL LGA1151 MANIBOARD

GPU: ZOTAC GTX 960 2GB GDDR5 128BIT GTX960 ZT-90306-10M -> GIGABYTE GTX 960 OC 4GB GDDR5 128 BIT GV-N960WF2OC-4GD

CPU: Intel Core i5-6500 Processor -> Intel Core i5-6600K Processor

Or any suggestion? Thanks sifu!
*
It does matter actually, more games are utilizing > 2GB now.

If not heavy usage or workload like rendering, getting overclockable rig won't benefit you much now since locked i5 speed is fast enough.

Hi everyone, I am asking on behalf of my friend

These are the requirement
[Budget] - RM4k, it's ok to exceed a little bit

[Purpose]- Gaming/3D Modelling

[Hardwares that will be re-use] - Keyboard,Mouse, Speakers, Monitor, DDR3 RAM (got 8GB x4 extra RAM)

[Monitor resolution] - Full HD

[Personal preferences] i7, GTX 980, No need buy RAM

[Location] - Lowyat

Thanks everyone!
*
4K budget cannot fit i7 and GTX980 at the same time, need 4.5K at least (reuse your current RAM and SSD will be excluded).

Since you are going to reuse your DDR3 RAM, I'll go with Haswell build because using DDR3 RAM on Skylake mobo will damage the memory controller due to higher voltage according to reports, if you don't care/mind then go with it.

Intel Xeon E3 1231 V3 - RM 1149
MSI B85M-E45 - RM 334
Galax GTX970 4GB GDDR5 EXOC BLACK - RM 1599
Kingston HyperX Fury 240GB SSD - RM 379
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 219
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 199
Bitfenix NOVA - RM 149

Thank you for the insights.

I might render a lot of game footage that I will be recording..
In your opinion, should I go for it? Or just stay locked i5 still?
I am aiming for gigabyte gtx960 windforce 4gb..
*
If you have budget then why not brows.gif

Get more RAM also if you render a lot, otherwise some software might use all your available 8GB RAM during rendering and your PC will slow down like a snail.

Since you are going for unlocked i5 + Z170, maybe you can go for locked i7 + H170/B150, it is cheaper or about the same price but you get extra 4 threads compared to i5.

Yes, GPU oc can be done with normal board.

If you accept old gen CPU (Haswell 4th gen), then you can get i5 with some top up (around RM 100+), performance difference between Haswell and Skylake (6th gen) is not huge, but Haswell i5 (quad core quad thread) is definitely the clear winner here if compared to Skylake i3 (dual core quad thread), i5 is faster for AutoCAD too.

Add roughly RM 50+ for Logitech Keyboard + Mouse combo if you need it.

899 razer combo

Since the price of this GTX960 is over 1k, you can consider the R9 380/R9 380X 4GB, price is around the same but it is slightly faster than GTX960 in terms of raw performance. Or alternatively you can add RM 500 for MSI Tiger GTX970, almost twice the performance of GTX960.

I got an offer for RM 950 for the gpu if i buy in one go.
Or is it better to invest on 970 straight away until 2-3 years?
*
GTX970 is more future proof, it is the hottest GPU right now for 1080p gaming.

If you don't plan to play any triple A titles now or in the future, GTX960 is enough for MMORPG (if I recall correctly you are playing online MMORPG right?) now.

You can get any cheap case to reduce the cost but not recommended to get those cases which come with PSU (crappy quality), better to invest in a standalone & decent PSU which can last longer like what I suggested above.

Well, seeing sales in steam and origin really make me want to buy some AAA games biggrin.gif.
Yup im more to MMORPG
Guess i will go for the gtx970. Less hassle to upgrade anytime soon.

Do you recommend of using GPU cooler? Is that the proper name? tongue.gif
*
If you plan to use GPU cooler i.e. Kraken G10 with AIO water cooler (not included in the G10), then just get the cheapest reference card because you will remove the default cooler of the GPU, so it is just a waste to buy those expensive aftermarket cooler equipped GPU.

QUOTE(Yveatel @ Dec 1 2015, 12:59 PM)
Thanks. I can accept  i5 with some top up, how about the GTX 750? Is it good enough? Or I should increase the budget for better graphic card?
*
Based on your frequently used/played games, it is enough unless you are planning to play latest triple A titles at high settings.

Then i dont need to oc the gpu yet..or can i? (sorry inexperience question)

Don't need aftermarket cooler so soon I think, Gigabyte Windforce does the cooling job pretty good, I am using the triple fan Windforce card, the temperature never hit > 70°C when no air cond, average 60°C when in air cond room.

You still can oc the GPU even with the stock cooler, but Gigabyte Windforce card comes with factory oc'd settings, so you don't really need to oc manually unless you really want to hit the max performance before the card throttles due to limit.
