Hi Terence , I've been meaning to ask , let's say I would like to play Dota 2 .. What would u recommend? I just need it to be smooth. Dun mind adding a couple hundred smile.gif

Add a dedicated GPU, if want to run on almost max settings at 60 FPS on 1080p, then you can add a GTX750 (< RM 500), PSU can be upgraded to 550W (RM 199) for extra headroom.

Is the Skylake i5 6400 (RM 801) better than i5 4590 (RM 827)? Prices from Jayacom.
*
In terms of raw performance, nope, i5 4590 is faster than i5 6400 due to higher clock speed.

But please take note i5 4590 is Haswell CPU and using LGA1150 socket while i5 6400 is Skylake CPU and using LGA1151 socket, so if you swap to i5 4590 please make sure you choose the correct mobo.

Hey guys, if only for maximum gaming, do we need a i7 few core?

[Budget] 3k

[Purpose] gaming only

[Hardwares that will be re-use] no

[Monitor resolution] already have a 50 plus inch LED a sound system.

[Games & softwares that use frequently] max graphic for Fallout 4, GTA5

[Personal preferences] maximum for gaming

[Location] KL

"a i7 few core"? Not fully understand, I assume you mean do we need i7 if only gaming.

Well, it depends on your budget, if budget allows, surely the i7 is more future proof, we have seen quite a few latest titles are using the extra threads of i7 already, for example Fallout 4 and the currently most CPU demanding single player game, AC: Syndicate.

I tested AC: Syndicate on i5 4460 and i7 6700K, it turned out that i5 is somehow suffering from CPU bottleneck, CPU usage is constantly 90% and above for all cores, sometimes it even hit 100% for all cores, this causes issues like mouse lag/delay. This could be a poor optimization from Ubisoft (they are well known for poor PC port afterall laugh.gif ), but rest assured, open world games tend to draw more CPU power compared to other genre games.

If you are more towards this type of games, get an i7 is highly encouraged.

Your budget can fit i5 + GTX960/R9 380 at most, running max graphics settings with this GPU with mostly yield < 60 FPS, medium/high settings is more FPS friendly, of course they can run max/ultra settings, but you might face unstable FPS and screen tearing.

Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 876
MSI B150M Bazooka D4 - RM 399

Hi.

seem like good price.

need suggestion also.
need a pc with RM1.6k max budget.
for home pc, surfing, n school work
i think intergrated graphic shud work rite?

thanks so much.
and is it possible to get same price @ penang
or u suggest ordering part from viewnet?
i can do the assembly also
*
If strictly no gaming, then iGPU is enough.

If you want to get from Penang, you can try GTech or hikari85 in Garage Sales (both operated by same person), but price and product range might be different.

If you are going to order parts from Klang Valley area, you can try Techview, ETech, Idealtech, DotaTech etc, Viewnet is not doing delivery/courier service if I am not mistaken.

Intel Pentium G3250 - RM 235
Asus H81M-K - RM 240
Corsair 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Value RAM - RM 169
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
FSP Hexa+ 450W - RM 155
Thermaltake Versa H25 - RM 139
BenQ GW2255 - RM 390

Total: RM 1543 (Techview price inclusive of GST)

If you want to cut cost, you can get a cheap casing which includes with PSU, but the PSU included is quite crappy though, i.e AVF Extremo 161 (RM 98 only) and use the extra funds to upgrade to i3 4160 for better and faster operation/multitasking.

ah. ok2
thanks mate

btw.. the new pentium with skylake already here rite?

Yes.

But take note if you are going to pair Skylake with DDR3 RAM, it will cause damage to memory controller due to higher voltage of DDR3 RAM according to reports.

To bear the risk or not is up to you.

my friend say thank you to u biggrin.gif

one more question

is it worth to get the new skylake xeon e3 series instead of skylake i7 for gaming?
last few year ago , i see ppl are recommend the xeon processor , is it worth to go for skylake xeon series if i dont OC. is it still the same performance as i7?
*
Yes, the Xeon E3 1230 V5 is basically a lower clock speed of i7 6700 (same base clock but different boost clock) and no iGPU (not a problem if you have dedicated GPU), but unfortunately Skylake Xeon E3 is not released here yet.

If you can wait then it is worth the wait but of course you need to top up some money in order to upgrade to Xeon CPU from i5.

starting from skylake, the LGA 1151 chipsets dont support Xeon anymore... need to use "server" grade chipsets C236  sad.gif

Previously I was holding back from buying as I was also waiting for Xeon E3-1200 v5... but then after the long wait...  cry.gif  cry.gif  cry.gif

LGA1151 is socket, Z170/H170/B150/H110 is Skylake chipset, Xeon is also using LGA1151 socket but only C236 Skylake chipset is supported.

What a sad news, Intel fixed the "exploit" sad.gif

So yea I'm gonna shop for parts this weekend. May I know if this combination is cheapest skylake build already?

Intel Core i5 6400 - RM 809
MSI B150M Bazooka D4 - RM 399
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 200

In terms of performance, does 6400 and 6500 differ by alot?

Current spec:
*
Base clock increase of 0.5GHz is quite worth compared to previous gen with just 0.2GHz increase over a significant amount of money.

from the quote that u gave, the monitor doesn't have an HDMI input, right?  blink.gif

if let's say we change it to GW2255HM, how much to add?  hmm.gif

or u have better monitor with hdmi input to recommend? brows.gif  brows.gif
*
Around RM 30 - RM 50.

You can buy VGA/DVI to HDMI adapter if the cost is too expensive.

With 3k budget, it is very hard to include a monitor > 22 inch.

If change to AMD, probably you have to go with APU path, A10 7850K is better than G3250 but its GPU is just slightly weaker than R7 250X.

GTA 4 is a very old games and the PC port is really sucks.

If you mean GTA 5 then it depends on what settings you wish to play, but with your budget, can easily go for high settings.

You can switch to Nvidia GPU if you prefer lower power consumption, but performance is weaker than the selected R9 390X and lesser VRAM.

Monitor choice is totally optional, there are many IPS monitors in the market, you can choose those mid end IPS monitor (around RM 700+/-) so you can spend the extra money in other parts, such as getting a better looking case, more RAM, larger HDD/SDD etc.

hye guys..planning to build my own rig, but not sure due to the followings:-
1. is it hard to build your own rig?tried to watch it on youtube, but i kinda..lost though
2. will i entitle to get tax rebate i build my own rig,(purchase part by part under  a same receipt),or by purcahsing a complete rig, just like what idealtech is offering?

thnx in advanve
*
If you have zero experience and don't have confidence in yourself, then you better ask the seller to assemble and test the rig for you.

About tax rebate, I am not quite sure, I think can, must be full rig and at least 3k (from what I've seen some forumers requested before). Purchasing part by part or complete rig should be the same because the receipt will also list down every single part you buy.

QUOTE(b0rhui @ Dec 5 2015, 09:57 AM)
Thanks! So if I were to bring my gpu + purchase MOBO+RAM+CPU in lowyat, the shop would be able to fix them all for me? Or have you encountered certain shops don't accept "outside food" laugh.gif
*
Not really sure about this, but before you purchase, you can try to "survey" and see what is their response, if they are ok and free of charge, then only buy from them.
