December 2012 Rig:

PSU: Seasonic SII S12 620W (suspect it broken)
Processor: Intel Xeon E3-1230v2 3.3GHz
Motherboard: MSI H77MA-G43
RAM: 8GB Kingston DDR3-1333
GPU: Leadtek GTX670
CASE: NZXT s340 midTower (new)
SSD: 120GB Intel 330

Purpose: Gaming, Web Development, Future VR machine

Lightning strike rendered my pc broken, power button have no response, so hopefully it only fried my PSU.

can sifi recommend a replacement PSU for my pc? budget at about rm300

if possible a list of upgrade for each of the part just in case it broken too :/ Thanks

Okay" thanks, I don't like lots of cables, will there be a lot of cables if I just go with NZXT Grid Ten?
Another question is, should I use high static pressure fan or airflow fan for intake and exhaust (casing)? Any notable 15 mm fans? (my case specs for top)
*
NZXT Grid Ten got 10 slots, and it is plug and play style so if you only have for example 3 fans then 3 cables only (not including the cable to connect the hub to mobo and PSU yet).

Static pressure fan is good when you are going to put the fan beneath an item, i.e. water cooling radiator.

Airflow fan works much better when there is no obstacle, so you have to buy the one which suits you more.

As for 15mm casing fan, you can look for CM XtraFlo 120 (Slim) and Prolimatech Ultra Sleek Vortex 12, XtraFlo has higher RPM (faster but noiser).

AMD Athlon X4 860K - RM 369
Gigabyte F2A68HM-DS2 - RM 275
Transcend 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Value RAM - RM 159
Sapphire R7 250X 1GB GDDR5 - RM 379
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 229
FSP Hexa+ 450W - RM 179
Cheap casing ~ RM 100

Total: RM 1690 (Viewnet price inclusive of GST)

You can get any cheap casing below RM 100 but don't use the PSU included with the case, it is bad for long run, not really meant for gaming/heavy load.

To get a more stable 60 FPS at max settings, top up and get R7 260X if possible.

Okay", so I have decided to buy 3 Jetflo 120 and 1 Xtraflo 120 (Slim) (Case: CM N200 with side panel window), but is it possible to control the speed of 3 Jetflo (I don't want to use the silent adapter provided) while having Xtraflo runs at maximum speed?

Thanks !

JetFlo and XtraFlo are PWM based casing fans so you can control them via software if and only if they are connected to mobo 4-pin fan connector.

I actually want to control the Jetflo only while letting Xtraflo running at full speed or control all but non-concurrently, since Xtraflow has much lower RPM. And I have one 4-pins header left only on my mobo. I read that I can use Swiftech 8 Way PWM Splitter or Gelid 1 to 4 PWM Splitter, where can I buy this anyway? Try to search for it, but seems like no one is selling.

Thanks !

Yea, 4 pin power hub will work but extremely rare in Malaysia, so far I only found one here.

They will work but performance won't be good.

If possible, get a FSP Hexa+ 550W, around RM 200+/-, so next time when you conduct upgrade, you don't have to spend money to change PSU only.

Hi boss,

Just a quick recommendation.

I have an idle Dell Optiplex ( can't remember the exact model but it's a SFF computer in my opinion ) which I want to convert as an entertainment PC for my parents.

It's already equipped with a 3rd Gen i7 3770 and 16 gb DDR3 ram from my previous system.

However, the default GPU ( ATI Radeon HD 7470 OEM I think ) only have DVI / Display port for output ( correct me if I am mistaken ).

I wish to plug it into a TV that outputs 1080p for casual browsing and movies at most only.

My current dilemma :

1. Change the GPU to something cheap that has HDMI output ( it has to be a low profile gpu since it's an uber small desktop ) while it's default DELL OEM PSU only goes up to 230w ( I think )

2. Just get a converter and plug it into the TV?

I think you mean only have DVI and VGA, DisplayPort is "premium" port somehow and only can be found on higher end card.

For your case, I will just get a converter, DVI to HDMI will do, no need to buy a new GPU just for the sake of a native HDMI port.

I have no idea why they put DisplayPort instead of HDMI in a low end card, well a DVI to HDMI converter will just do the job fine (less than RM 20 only).

You can stick to the same processor, get a 950 instead of a 960, then motherboard get a MSI H170M PRO-VDH RM459 or similar. Since you only play COD, gtx950 should be more than enough for now. The reasons for my choice is:

Getting a H170 motherboard = more sata and usb ports, also higher end chipset the brand is willing spend more on the quality of the board so better overall quality of motherboard. Longer lasting motherboard = when you want to upgrade to a better processor in the future, you don't need to change to a new one, so in a way cheaper in the long run. H170M if you know that in the future you're not planning to overclock at all.

If you ever want to upgrade your graphic card, upgrading from a 950 is better because if you'll be aiming for a higher end card like 970 above, the performance increase is much more significant and worth the money to upgrade.

okay..thanks dude for the explanation.
Thumbs up !

Hi guys! Please recommend a rig configuration based on these info.

[Budget] Rm3000

[Purpose] Gaming

[Hardwares that will be re-use] Monitor, keyboard, mouse and HDD

[Monitor resolution] 720p and higher

[Games & softwares that use frequently] Starcraft2, Diablo 3, Fallout 4 (Would like to run those on the highest setting.)

[Personal preferences]

Processor: Intel Core i5 6500
Motherboard: I dont foresee myself using SLI or Crossfire so these feature will not be needed. Would prefer a robust mobo which is durable with 4 slots for RAM.
GPU: Mid range value for money GPU. Will consider spending more for a GPU with higher performance.
Chasis: ATX
PSU: Durable and future-proof for upgrading

[Location] Sabah

Thanks in advance. biggrin.gif
