Tamiya Drifters need 70-100% battery to function effectively, I still use for high speed drift but only two at the front, back must be ABS how also.. but tiles I'll use all 4 Tamiya biggrin.gif

hot to recognize? just ask around lah, it's not a 1000 people crowd what tongue.gif

oi night, register yourself in the namelist lar, and put your msn or ym also just incase we need to contact. and doesnt matter la who drift better, talk only very cheap nowadays, next saturday show us your skills lar laugh.gif someone tell sonic about the arrangement, then he can come too..

btw, IMHO it's very unpractical to drift with nitros, since the car won't move fast enough to cool the heatsink..

nice? you should see Tamiya's original Skyline shell painted to metallic silverand CF hood, lagi cun thumbup.gif getting mine early next month..

this qd shell memang for bashing up one, since I sold the WRX that came together with the kit I had to find another one and since I'm still a noob better get cheapo shell. but this shell damn cacat at the back lar haha

if you drift ala conventional where there are many turns i dont believe it can go that fast also, i only found one situation where i almost broke my turnbuckle, coming down the straight at speedway and attempting a scandanavian flick on 20% battery tongue.gif you wanna tumpang buy? im going to underground this thursday to get an alu shaft and some other stuff

what shell you using anyway bro

I also standby check the price already ler.. anyways, maybe by some miracle the grease was in my eyes and manipulated the impulses sent to my brain and made me read it as RM35 for a pair of drift tyres with gold rims, but Yokes are still more expensive. no impulse mistake there, folks!

Okay okay, I'll explain to you thoroughly and maybe put in the front page also so that newbies can use as a guide.

What you need to get started with RC drifting. [TAMIYA]

1. DIY
a) Car kit (chassis, internal parts, etc. w/o motor)
b) Motor (if not included)
c) Wheels (ABS for tyres and rims of your choice)
d) Bearings
e) Remote control
f) Remote control receiver
g) Servo (the unit that will steer the car)
h) 6 cell battery
i) Charger for the battery
j) Bodyshell of your choice

2. Ready made
a) Car kit (w/motor, wheels, remote control, receiver, servo and bodyshell)
b) 6 cell battery
c) Charger for the battery
d) ABS for tyres (replace stock rubber tyres with these)

Here's the pricing structure (DIY).
a) and b) - RM600 (TAMIYA TT-01)
c) - RM20
d) - RM80 (TAMIYA)
e) and f) - RM300 (TAMIYA STANDARD)
g) - RM30 (STANDARD SERVO)
h) - RM70 for 1800mAH, RM140 for 3800mAH
i) - RM100 (ANSMANN AC30 BASIC CHARGER)
j) - RM50 (QD), RM120 (TAMIYA ORIGINAL UNPAINTED) RM160 (TAMIYA FINISHED BODY)

Ready made
a) - RM760 (TAMIYA TT-01 XB)
b) - RM70 for 1800mAH, RM140 for 3800mAH
c) - RM100 (ANSMANN AC30 BASIC CHARGER)

3. Drift kits (TAMIYA TT-01 DRIFT SPEC)

a) Car kit (chassis, internal parts, sport tuned motor, bearings, drift tyres, bodyshell)
b) Remote control
c) Receiver
d) Servo
e) Battery
f) Charger

a) costs RM650, the rest as per above.

Remember that you can always get second hand stuff, including the car itself but the prices above are based on NEW and BASIC ones, available at Tamiya Underground, 1 Utama.

Forgot to mention, ABS a type of pipe that can be cut to fit the RC car's rims, and it has zero traction thus allowing a good drift. FYI, only my car is new, the rest of my stuff is second hand and I got my whole package now for sub RM1000 if it wasn't for the extra accessories I bought.

dun really need drift tires to drift. hard compund rubber tires good enough. like the std kit tamiya tires. btw add me to the list. didnt manage to take part in the last drift competition because car not ready in time. couldnt build the kit in time. will join the next one in atria.

exactly, when a Playstation 2 also costs almost the same price why do ppl call that cheap and this expensive?? it's not so much about the passion anymore, this is more about mentality. one man's bouquet of roses is another man's pile of shit, if you know what I mean.

infact, I also dont see the point of a couple of small battery powered cars going around in a fixed track? maybe you can enlighten me on why it's wise to spend half of what others spend on bigger sized cars that they can actually control, on mini 4wd, then the guys out there who say RC is for rich folks will understand what I mean smile.gif

thats because to many ppl rc cars are just toys. they dun understand that electric powered rc cars are more advance in terms of tunability than their road cars. what can u tune in f1 cars u can do in rc cars tires and insert, springs, camber, rideheight, caster, droop, sway bars, toe, shockmounting, wheelbase, antisquat, kick up,roll centre and so on. even profile of esc can adjust. we even use tire warmers for racing.

think of getting RC as an investment...

and no hard compound tyres are harder to drift with..
of course u can slide, but u won't be able to hold on to it long...
ABS or yokes are the best

I'm not from MMU malacca but my sis is from there. Also Bear hill resident in Ixora. RC drifting eh take any 4wd rc oso can liao small big no difference. Getting TT-01 soon right after my SPM. Going for the Ferarri model and i'll add GT-wing to make it more Japanese Tuner like. Also i'll be airbrushing the polycarbonate cover into kandy blue (i hate Ferarri red - too high class for a drifting car)

weird eh, in the 1:1 scale, cars need to be FR to drift properly...but rc cars are all 4wd right? wonder how they really drift?....weight shifting?

I questioned that myself, but my theory is the lighter it is the more torgue you have to have. So since the 1/10 cars are very light, there's not enough weight just from gravity (add weights if you like, it still wont work!) and momentum to make for the front wheel to grip the surface.. in a way it is weight shifting la, but if I can recall if you have a fast motor, heavy front and softer tyres up front you can drift 2 wheel also.. I think..

but to avoid the rocket science, we just use all drift tyres, 4 wheel drive it and kao kao slide tongue.gif

chris, about the Mini-Z drifting, same thing as my opinion, I doubt there's enough weight..

I'm not an expert on QD cars but I believe you can't change the internal parts like the motor and ESC, including servo, but the tyres can be changed. anyways, you can try to open up the shell to see if the internal parts are removable or not what.. but thats not the important thing, QD cars rear wheel driven right?

Quick Drive, I myself am not sure what it means lar because Tamiya also has a QD car. I think it's sort of like a name, not a brand for a very simple RC car.. like those Jalan Pasar RWD 2 speed cars, that's QD but you'll still need an 4WD car, perhaps there is a maker out there that makes QD cars in 4WD format and I just saw my friend's Smartech and I noticed a shaft. But who knows, we'll need the QD experts for this one

yea la.so it's no difference between the both eh? what abou the remote that comes with the expert built? is it ok? the fellow at the tamiya shop was telling that remote is so so only as it has no digital display, showing the cars settings and all....and can we really do the car's settings tru the remote? that's what the shop fellow said to me

lol the slightly plum malay guy is it? he's a nice chap, explained everything that I'm about to explain to you now tongue.gif

yup, no difference also in the car, but you won't understand your car well. the only throwback is the remote, and I believe what he meant is that the remote's transmitter module is analog, I think. about the settings, the XB control also can adjust various trims, but the higher end remote controllers that you see will have more features and more tunability i.e. ABS, different profiles that can be saved, etc.

most of the tuning you do on the remote only involves the servo and ESC. if lets say you want to adjust your toe, camber, suspension geometry all of course must do by hand and this is where knowing your car VERY well comes in handy wink.gif

what the problem and what's the type? if it's like those GuangDong or ZhenShou or any other weird chinese named brands then might as well just get new one.. and rarely does a problem occur to a battery and it's minor, if got problem most probably mean out of commision already..

Tamiya don't have rights to any D1 cars, only Yokomo got. Instead, Tamiya has rights to road racing cars, rally cars and street cars. So, for Yokomo, it will be Hobby Haven in Subang.

nono, you can get any bodyshell you want, all you have to do is drill a hole for the stubs that hold the bodyshell if they're not already there. so far the only custom bodyshell makers in the market I know are from ABC Hobby, they have Estimas, trucks, Honda Civics, and all the other funny cars la laugh.gif

b) Motor (if not included)
c) Wheels (ABS for tyres and rims of your choice)
d) Bearings

g) Servo (the unit that will steer the car)

2. Ready made
a) Car kit (w/motor, wheels, remote control, receiver, servo and bodyshell)

what the problem and what's the type? if it's like those GuangDong or ZhenShou or any other weird chinese named brands then might as well just get new one.. and rarely does a problem occur to a battery and it's minor, if got problem most probably mean out of commision already..

Tamiya don't have rights to any D1 cars, only Yokomo got. Instead, Tamiya has rights to road racing cars, rally cars and street cars. So, for Yokomo, it will be Hobby Haven in Subang.

Naka7a, try to check other forums or Lelong for used TT01s. Not interested in other chassis'? I think I got someone who is selling their TA04, Yokomo CGM and Yokomo SSG. Read up on the specs and let me know if you're interested.

Smartech can also, just change tyre, stiffer springs and add bearings (if got) and can already

correction, it's TA03, CGM and TT01. I'm asking for you now, will let you know later. as it is the TT01 looks mad hopped up (upgraded) and may be more expensive than retail stock TT01 price. TA03 also hopped up but cheap since it's old chassis. Don't ask me about Yokomo tongue.gif

No dude, Malacca's RC and real car drifting scene quite strong, infact in another forum there's even a clan called MLK-D and they usually drift at an apartment called Ixora or something, you should join them, and the TA03 seller is also in Malacca laugh.gif

naka7a, I have a friend who's selling his ready to run TT01 with lots of extras, a basic controller and battery. about RM800, let me know if you're interested, and if it's out of your budget I can offer to buy off the hop up parts from the car to lower the final cost

the controller is a Sanwa Blazer, receiver and servo is included, Mabuchi sport tuned motor, battery is 3800mah, total hop up parts about RM150 so if you're interested you can get it all for RM650 only

1.) 1 of the tyres came out
2.) Remote Control missing
3.)Battery missing, its the Cad-NiCd something like that
4.) My car is full of dust, both inside and outside, so i thought of sending it to be "serviced"..

I dont know if there is any other problemlah.. sad.gif

the XB is meant to be a normal RC car.. it's not meant for drifting or touring, it's just meant for playing, so of course it's not necessary to throw all of those extras in. and only in the TT01D is the bearings included, a TT01R has a Tamiya GT motor but an XB or normal TT01 will carry a 35T Silvercan. Of course, paired with the right ESC this motor is better than a Mabuchi sport tuned, but the stock Tamiya ESC that comes with Tamiya cars doesn't do this. The 27T sport tuned motor would run you down about RM120 new, used RM50 I guess.

If sonic_cd can clarify, is the XB using CVA oil shocks or just the normal spring ones, then you may be able to save on the springs. But to be honest with you, a CVA (or was it TRF, one of them is adjustable to the mm, and the other is adjustable by using spacers aka the cheaper alternative) short spring only cost RM10 per pair, might as well get it anyway smile.gif

Even if you only changed the tyres also can drift. Depends la if you believe in physics a lot, then you'll want the extras. The motor is for you to hold your drift, because if your tyres arent spinning fast enough, you'll just snap back due to traction. Oops, that's related to physics also tongue.gif

ESC = Electronic Speed Control, sort of like a power commander in other words, a good ESC distributes power more efficiently to get better throttle punch when you need it. GT ah? dunno la, I guess around RM80?

Ah, and engineering student aye, well be prepared to spend, I find it easier to buy stuff when I understand it and you'll definetly understand 80% of the parts on sale laugh.gif of course you can still exploit the physics on a stock car by playing with suspension geometry, camber, toe, etc.

If I am reading the specs right, the XB doesn't even come with an oil shock/damper, this would mean that a short spring would be useless as the shocks aren't adjustable anyway.. shoot..

there's only so much you can tune on the chassis to make it drift better. i'd say from noob to now the most important thing is a good punchy motor and right camber and toe settings. if i may advise you again, the DIY kit is not hard at all to build. i know a 14 year old that built it in 2 days and he's not very good at technical things either.

some 'thing' dude, it's called a manual tongue.gif but seriously it's easy as ABC, I doubt you need anybody to help (but if you do I can help you la of course). I'm actually not saying you should get it coz it's cheaper, infact it may just round up to a bit higher than the XB after adding in the controller, etc but it's the knowledge you get that pays off. I agree the LED lights are attractive, and they cost a bomb to buy seperately, but if you want a Christmas lights ride even, it's easy to DIY also.. but it the end it's your choice bro smile.gif

What's your gear ratio? Smartech dunno if the stock pinion and spur is good for drifting or not, but that 15T motor sure will be a big help, and bearing you have to ask other Smartech users, I don't even know if bearings for Smartech cars exist doh.gif

nitro? dangerous woo, you have to fine tune the motor first to avoid overheating, plus it's very messy too, stick to EP

heya guys. just finished readin the 16 pages sweat.gif im not familiar wif PJ but i think i might be able to find the glenmarie track. got an ancient Kyosho Pureten Spider (8 years old doh.gif ) all stock parts. how often do u guys play btw? i havent got any drift tyres. so since the tyres were wrecked, i just put a few rounds of plastic tape on em. think that'll work?

I actually play almost every day at either Glenmarie or SS19, come join me someday, just let me know when you coming. Now that does sound like an ancient car tongue.gif For starters I did that before, yes it would work but I'm guessing for only as long as 3 seconds until the tape wears out laugh.gif just buy ABS or PVC pipe and cut them to the rim size, or better just buy precut ABS from people.. PM me if you need

if you get a 4200mAH battery like how I recommend, then it will last for about 30-45 minutes depending on charger. The more expensive the charger, the longer lasting the battery (dont ask me why)

if you look at the box(mine anyways), it should say "Required For Operation (not included) : *2ch Radio Control System with Electric Speed Controller, *Batteries x 8, *7.2V-1400~2000mAh Ni-Cd Battery, *Battery Charger, *540 Class Motor"

btw, how long on average does 1400mAh Ni-Cd batteries usually last? cause im using that at the moment and it seems kinda short. what batteries do you guys use?

that's not even including the servo unit yet tongue.gif 1400's can only go for 8 minutes max on my car haha! I have a 4200 and 3800, but funny the 3800 lasts longer... not to mention the 4200 is a matched cell pack, as in each cell's voltage is matched. I'm going to invest in a good 5ampere charger soon so that can get more kick out of my batts biggrin.gif

5Amp? wont that like shorten the battery cycle or something? i just bought a 1.5Amp charger cause the old one went dead.
1400 about less than 10 mins on mine too, guess that's the average. how much did you buy the 3800 for?

my current one also is 2.5 and it cant give me serious juice, so thats also why i wanna get a better one

just bought and sawed off some pvc pipes. the one i got is bigger than the wheels so just gonna glue the wrecked tyres inside em as buffer. i hope it works unsure.gif

eric, might i suggest getting a second hand set first? everything'll be bundled together and much cheaper. once you get the feel of things, u can get additional stuff for upgrading the car.

wow, you actually went through sawing it yourself, salute you rclxms.gif

seconded, Eric, you dont need a better charger either for starter's kit, I just want a better charger because I want more kick from it. besides, above 3amp charger will shorten the battery life drastically. FYI I'm selling my Ansmann 2.5amp charger, going for RM70 smile.gif

doh.gif sorry, I just got my pay yesterday so that's when all the spending ideas come into mind tongue.gif

there are production drift tyres from Tamiya, and Yokomo for the matter and I believe they are the only ones with them but Tamiya's drift tyres aren't very drift friendly unless on even tiles. IIANM these are the only production drift tires available in the market today

TAMIYA TYPE-D - http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXLVZ0&P=M

YOKOMO SINGLE RING - http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXLTV0&P=M

YOKOMO DOUBLE RING & TYPE-D - http://www.yokomousa.com/tires/drift_tires.htm

Well, the Tamiya's are just hard and soft on each side, the Yoke single ring is basically 70% plastic ring in the middle and 15% rubber on each end. Double ring is same as single ring only with smaller rings, and type-D is same as Tamiya's type-D but better engineered.

sorry ah, very busy le these days, just started working and all tongue.gif tell you what, you can call Tamiya Underground at 0377290553 and ask them if they've got the stuffs available. yep, that should definetly be enough wink.gif

good to see nitro drifters surfacing, the scene now too many EP drifters and I'm guessing only 30% have played nitro before..

doh.gif told you dont go toycity mar, the one you saw in IOI is the XB. need bearings, suspension and a better motor, and yes it will in the end be more expensive than the TT01D

I'm no genius but my thinking is you'll need the running air to cool the engine and in drifting you won't get that much air since it's going slow or sideways (you could cut a hole on each side of the shell I suppose)

yoh eric congrats on getting ur new car thumbup.gif hope you're havin as much fun as i am.

the long lasting play, i think it's not about the charger (maybe some factor) but more the battery. 4200 or 3800mAh will last longer than lower ones.

I can't answer the HPI q for you, but the diff between TT01D and TT01R is simply one os amde for drifting and one is made for touring. Both comes with the necessary option parts needed for the type of environment it will be in..

Eric, nice rims smile.gif why dont you come and join us at SS19 la bro.. for your motor, you can take the fastest one also but the play time will shorten, are you willing to sacrifice this?

So far ABS suppliers are usually kept secret because 1) not many have, or even know about them and 2) they usually sell it in bulk. you can buy precut ABS from individual sellers in RC forums

get a 23t Super Stock TZ then, RM120

TT01D - RM6500

hi daryl, welcome.

most of us if not all got our TT01Ds from TU, so far I've only heard of a few shops that do sell them but I dont think these shops carry the TT01D anymore.. just like anything else you will run into cheap and expensive controllers, servos and ESCs so the question you ask is rather subjective because not all of us paid the same price for our stuff

anyways, if you still want to look for it elsewhere, you can start at Nam Lee RC Hobby in Atria, Damansara

7.2 is the cell's average rating, and its a rounded figure, your battery should ready 9v and above if it's fully charged

Open up the spur/pinion cover and check for any debris, and check if the pinion teeth have become "rongak" or spoiled already..

those are Topcads, not sure if they are sold here... if it's from Tamiya (TRF) then it's around RM300++.. but if you buy a 3rd party brand it should be much lesser than that. I've got some CVA oil shocks for sale smile.gif

i have no idea, that was so long ago ... back then, when i bought the shaft driven model, there was some very expensive belt driven model ... this was back when i was in form 4, 1997 ...

so now its all back to shaft again ar ... to get myself started back on this, how much is the budget? below 1k? including transceiver?

---

i just googled, seems that the tt01 is fuly assembled, and some part are kinda similiar, the one i had was from tamiya also, its all DIY ...

This one beginner in rc lar. Shaft driven is not something new doh.gif

Tamiya TA-01 and TA-02 are shaft driven way before the TA-03 which is belt driven.

tsk tsk tsk, then TA05 is driven by what? magic? tongue.gif both shaft and belt are still strong in the market, and it's up to personal preference but if you go back into history of couse belt came along first and then followed by shaft. If you have any of those old Tamiya catalogues, just go take a look see at what the old chassis uses smile.gif

belt driven mana uncommon,

hotbodies cyclone, tamiya 415 series, yokomo BD, xray T2 and all current performing EP cars are all belt driven. reason why shaft driven is not so popular because in terms of handling modified motors will cause a shaft driven car to have some torque steer because of how the motor is mounted

andy,
tell me which was the tamiya model that has a belt driven car before a shaft driven doh.gif

chris,
nowadays very busy lar, CNY and all hehehhe.

I lock my diff too, both front and rear but front only 50%, worried my 23t cant carry the back with front at full power..

MS, I forgot which chassis it was, but it was in the 1998 Tamiya catalogue.. misplaced mine, but I'll look for it. If I'm not mistaken la, no hostility required wink.gif
