yea, mmu malacca....i heard from my friends that there are some people drifting their rcs. and they happen to be my friend's friend...small world eh..especially if you stay in malacca....sigh
*
I'm not from MMU malacca but my sis is from there. Also Bear hill resident in Ixora. RC drifting eh take any 4wd rc oso can liao small big no difference. Getting TT-01 soon right after my SPM. Going for the Ferarri model and i'll add GT-wing to make it more Japanese Tuner like. Also i'll be airbrushing the polycarbonate cover into kandy blue (i hate Ferarri red - too high class for a drifting car)

haha. Tamiya is still the best for doing this thing. I own a Tamiya RC, but it is a ready made. I bought it when I was in standard 5, that is more than ten years ago. but, it still function till now.

This one beginner in rc lar. Shaft driven is not something new  doh.gif

Tamiya TA-01 and TA-02 are shaft driven way before the TA-03 which is belt driven.

guys, I'm looking at this website rcuniverse.com. They recommend this TAMIYA TT-01 for newbies and non-serious players. Anyone know about this model? Hard to find details on the net. Its roughly RM500 if I'm not mistaken.
*
TT-01 kits are the most basic 4wd 1/10 chassis for beginners.

Chassis kits retail for RM649 - RM799 (battery, charger, transmitter, receiver have to buy on ur own)
Ready To Run retail for RM899 - RM1099 (battery, charger have to buy on your own)

Recommended - TT-01D spec (comes with sport tuned motor, drift rims and tyres, full ball bearings)

If you dont have a budget of RM1.2k and above, sorry to say, hard to start off branded RC

You can visit Tamiya Underground located at Basement 2 new wing 1 Utama for more information about TT-01

this one here is less than 500. About this basic kit...not suitable for drifting?

Added on March 7, 2010, 6:56 pmfound these track locations in a forum (almost dead forum)
1.glenmarie HPC-surface cement
2.ss19 subang jaya-surface tarmac but only on saturday for drifting

anyone knows the exact location of the tracks? Thinking of visiting the SS19 one.

READ PROPERLY PLEASE. CONVERSION KIT - you need to have the TT-01 chassis to bolt on the CONVERSION KIT. doh.gif

look, if you're not here to help...get lost pls. Don't tarnish the Malaysian image with your attitude...its bad enough as it is.

I am going to learn more about this and will post more 'annoying' questions, so if you wanna stay...you're very welcomed smile.gif

bro, want to ask...which do you recommend. Yokomo ready to drift package or TT-01?
I spent the evening looking at pictures of other RC players...I see a lot of them got TT-01 and TL-01. I think these people are mainly in the US though.
*
no bro im not tarnishing malaysian image. you seem to have a heckuva lots of post count hence u should be able to read and write alot.

i posted the EXACT price of tamiya tt-01 chassis kits from tamiya malaysia to give u reference, and u said im not here to help. okayyyy

so here's something to help u properly, in case you missed it out...

and yes alot of people use TT-01 because it is the MOST BASIC and CHEAPEST. unless of course u wanna try out the china clones.

heck ive seen peeps in msia using tamiya 416X for drifting, RM1999 for chassis only

if aluminum parts are so easy to break, why is Tamiya selling them at high cost? Is it only used for serious racing?

Btw, what shop is BTS sells these? In case I drop by...
*
tamiya sells quality machined aluminium, china clones are made out off low quality alu.

just walk around the whole BTS, many many many many shops. Cheapest RTR - Lightning. then Vantex.

and i apologize for being too harsh. Im part of Tamiya Malaysia currently. So when someone says TT-01 can be gotten for 500 bucks, i snap.

you can drop by with you drift car after starting, we have a track in Basement 2, 1 Utama new wing, not too big, just nice for drifting. carpet based

just checked the specifics of the R540 sports tuned motor that comes with the TT-01D...it revs at 21,000 rpm max. Having a really wide Joker-style smile on my face right now biggrin.gif

yep, I like the Yokomo coz it comes with the D1-style body shell. I think outside cannot get this at all. Question - if I get the Yokomo drift package, can use Tamiya parts in the future? Eg engine, hop-up, rims...
*
yes motor and rims tyres are universal for 1:10 touring cars. but not the hop up parts. and the D1 bodyshells, can be bought to be used on TT-01s. Yokomo brand ones or HPI ones

QUOTE(andy @ Mar 9 2010, 01:35 AM)
Chris is right, it is cheap. Like I said, cheap is comparing it to cars, affordable is comparing to you and your own budget smile.gif What Cinta said is right, Yokes have more variables that you can play with. The DP in question has ball differentials as compared to gear differentials that you cannot lock (yes I am getting a bit technical, let's just say the former is easier to lock, and yes, you will want to lock it for drifting sake), you can adjust the caster, rear toe in/out, etc. Also, it comes with a nice bodyshell selection as compared to TT01D even. Bro, it's RM900 for just the car kit you know, batteries, charger, controller all not included.. kit doesn't refer to Ready To Run.. and yes, Yokomo is superior to Tamiya for entry level drift cars so it's no wonder that they're more expensive.

I really recommend you get a TA05. Look it up biggrin.gif
Loooooong time ago was their photo/videographer.. LOL! Now retire from the entire hobby edi.. andy is my nick biggrin.gif
The sports tuned motor is a 27t brushed motor that doesn't have an end bell. Translated, it is slow, outdated and once it's comm and brush is out, you're gonna be out looking for a new motor as well, so don't hold too much hope towards it! The standard now is a 13.5 to 21 turn brushless motor, this way you get excellent performance and it's maintainence free (no brush).
*
Dunno much about Yokomos, but for a beginner taking drifting as a fun time thingy, TT-01D is more than sufficient considering its cheaper than Yokomo's basic set. But as I said, if your budget is less than 1k, forget the branded ones. Vantex RM400 (ready to drift on the spot, includes every single thing u ever need), play and throw away after u get bored.

in the long run, TA05 or TRF416 would be a better choice, as TA05 belt driven can be hopped up even if u get bored of drifting, into a great touring car.

Current cheapest TA05 verII chassis kit i have, cusco subaru impreza - RM899 (Transmitter, battery, charger not included)

and yes sport tuned is a normal basic beginners brushed motor, and brushes tend to burn out fast nowadays especially while drifting.

for a branded Brushless ESC and Motor combo which is cheap, i would recommend Orca 11.5T combo, retails at RM399.

it would be more expensive and more hassle.

So, What U Guys Suggest Me To Buy?
I Heard XB Cant Upgrade Anything Right?
*
what u heard is totally wrong. XB kits = exactly same as normal unassembled chassis kits, just that XB kit save u hassle of assembling.
