What mini or micro RC are you referring to? They have stadium trucks, buggies, cars that come in mini or micro form..

Majalah 3 covered the general Malaysian RC scene, here's the vid!

great value for beginners.. I always tell people looking to start to go for 2nd hand good kits.. It's definitely a lot harder to crash if you get a good car, so why waste money on China kits that won't perform? biggrin.gif

for me though, why waste money buying a bath tub chasis for a premium price while you can straight away start with deck chasis at a cheaper price and if you break it (which is hard unless u crash it in touring at 80kmh since d chasis is made from cf) you don have to fork out more money to fix it... i totally agree with andy on getting a good chasis but only get it once you are good in it like hpi proD, schumacher or even xray t3, after u tune the suspension a bit and unlock/lock d differential n change to the drift tyre, you can drift as well...plus the car is super capable in touring...(2in1 application car for 1 price...)

exactly. I know the sometimes less than RM100 RTR cars are hard to resist, but with RC it's been proven time and time again that you will get what you pay for smile.gif

Post count don't mean a thing dude. I did not notice the word when I glanced through looking for the car sets. Simple as that. Still very confused with kits. Just learnt that there are electric and gas powered engines. Don't think people here play gas though...and some kits come with just the frame, no cover. I can only know more when I visit a shop next week. This week too busy with other things.

@zulboydarn: I'm gonna look around first before buying. Also need to see how many people play around my area. What brand is that 299 kit?
*
There are some crazy people I know that drift with gas cars. Simply put, you don't wanna be one of them as a beginner tongue.gif If you are free visit Times Square, just got heads up of a good Vantec brand kit selling there for around RM300. Yes it is a bit weak in build but the car that I saw was using mostly blue (aluminum) parts! On a Tamiya this can easily run you down 4 figures. But the true weakness is easily seen during impact, too soft = break, too hard = shatter.. Points for you to consider

-Wanna spend less now and more later (not branded)

or

-Spend more now and less later (branded)

Added on March 8, 2010, 2:23 amHop up parts are aftermarket parts. In the conversion kit URL you posted, all the parts included are "hop up parts", almost always aluminum material in blue but some brands do have it in red and yellow and such.

Tamiya's hop up parts of course differ in quality bro, and though it is more brittle it is much lighter. If you play conventional racing, weight can make all the difference for you in a race. For drifting I don't practice hopping up my car kao kao as it doesn't necessarily help.. All in the hands smile.gif

Err, I also dunno, I got the info from another forumer, be warned I never used one before, I just feel like it looks okay for people that insist on starting out with an affordable car..

aisehman, I am also confusing you now doh.gif when I say soft what I am referring to are stock plastic parts which can easily break.. but blue parts which are more brittle can easily shatter.. sorry ya

the key here is how you balance those two factors with the equipments you purchase in order to prolong your enjoyment in this hobby. or else, you will just quit prematurely thinking that you cannot perform when the actual blame should be laid on poor equipment!

I've seen it happen too many times, only a few manage to survive with their china made cars. some do end up realizing they made the wrong choice to go for china or non 1:10 scale cars but they never try branded ones anymore after that (totally lost interest)

TT01 is cheap, but it may not be affordable. perhaps you need to consider that cheap in this context means TT01 is cheap compared to TA-05MS or TRF416 which are both chassis' that drifters can use as well but costs a lot more than a TT01

I only mention TT-01 is cheap coz LanEVOchris said so. To me its not that cheap...what do you recommend? Yokomo Ready to drift car kits or the TT-01 and modify? Coz I have a friend who goes to Japan a lot and I can ask him to get a Yokomo kit there if its cheaper. If I'm not mistaken, a Yokomo kit is 25,000 yen...that's about RM925-950 at the current conversion rate.
*
Chris is right, it is cheap. Like I said, cheap is comparing it to cars, affordable is comparing to you and your own budget smile.gif What Cinta said is right, Yokes have more variables that you can play with. The DP in question has ball differentials as compared to gear differentials that you cannot lock (yes I am getting a bit technical, let's just say the former is easier to lock, and yes, you will want to lock it for drifting sake), you can adjust the caster, rear toe in/out, etc. Also, it comes with a nice bodyshell selection as compared to TT01D even. Bro, it's RM900 for just the car kit you know, batteries, charger, controller all not included.. kit doesn't refer to Ready To Run.. and yes, Yokomo is superior to Tamiya for entry level drift cars so it's no wonder that they're more expensive.

I really recommend you get a TA05. Look it up biggrin.gif

QUOTE(Aeon_Clock @ Mar 8 2010, 11:44 PM)
just checked the specifics of the R540 sports tuned motor that comes with the TT-01D...it revs at 21,000 rpm max. Having a really wide Joker-style smile on my face right now biggrin.gif

yep, I like the Yokomo coz it comes with the D1-style body shell. I think outside cannot get this at all. Question - if I get the Yokomo drift package, can use Tamiya parts in the future? Eg engine, hop-up, rims...
*
The sports tuned motor is a 27t brushed motor that doesn't have an end bell. Translated, it is slow, outdated and once it's comm and brush is out, you're gonna be out looking for a new motor as well, so don't hold too much hope towards it! The standard now is a 13.5 to 21 turn brushless motor, this way you get excellent performance and it's maintainence free (no brush).

I agree that it is quite costly. Scout for second hand sets, usually cars are sold ready to run, only need to buy controller, battery and charger, which are also sold second hand.

http://www.rctech.net has a section for Malaysian RC members with a dedicated buy/sell section. Do check it out for some of the best deals in the market smile.gif

local hobby shop. there's a turnbuckle on most cars to adjust toe in/out. if the car doesn't have it then you will need to upgrade, else the standard link piece will not be adjustable.

right right, for touring you mean, they have several ways to counter this.. I've heard of stuffing foam into the tires, applying epoxy, etc etc.. never really knew since I am an RC drifter and this is an RC drifting thread...
