Tell me one bank in SG where if you break your USD FD inside it, there will not be any penalties against your principal.

I am waiting to learn from you on my question in the above ! Please reply,....

I have looked everywhere, or everywhere that I know of in SG,.. and they all tell me my USD principal will be hit if I break my FD tenures. Let alone no USD interest earned. BUT even my USD principal will be taken back reduced,...

I thought of not answering you anymore because you are beating round the bush and wasting my time. But then,.. why not say again for the last time,... which bank in SG ? If you don't know but you merely said the above earlier out of assumptions, just say so and move on. Be a gentleman and don't wriggle here and there,... Don't wriggle around trying to find a way out,...

Or better still,... give me a better excuse like : you don't want to tell me,...

I never asked you about the rate. Why tell something that I did not ask for ?? YOU're wasting my time,...

Edited to highlight the second and third last sentences to emphasize on the most important points against Ramjade's stupid reply,...

I am asking because not sure if you are interested in so low returns.  If you are then I let you know lo. If you not interested,  then,  it's perfectly fine with me.

Cause you are looking at US FD which I assume the rate is higher than this.

Phillip money market fund. Is not bank.

So much for trying to be helpful sad.gif sad.gif
*
Okay, bro,... thank you,.. biggrin.gif ,... Phillip money mkt fund,... err,.. got risk one, not a risk-free Bank USD FD,... I was asking for USD FD.

I do appreciate the reply though of where to put,...

I put into DBS USD FD. 1.62% per annum today,...

You do know that money market fund invest in FDs right?

Cimb SG have better rate than DBS.
https://www.cimbbank.com.sg/en/personal/new...-promotion.html

Don't put FD in stingy SG banks
*
Yeah,... but money mkt funds go by units,... hence, there is always a 'risk' there in the calculation of units rather than pure $$$.

Yes, I know about higher rates from CIMB, and possibly higher rates from Maybank SG too,... but the mechanics and the logistics of putting into and pulling-put from banks other than DBS poses some challenge here,... I'll go with DBS because I can control very comfortably via internet banking.

I was just alerted on this by a forummer in SG. If you're not a subscriber of BT, you can't read the above article provided in the link.... sorry about this. I can read it cos of complimentary subscription,...hence did not notice,...

Use this link to read : http://www.singaporelawwatch.sg/slw/headli...h.QhaBPjVs.dpbs

Perhaps if the controlling unitholders were disqualified from voting in the EGM last year, Croesus Retail Trust would still be listed in the exchange today.

Let SGX improve on this first,... they heard us,...

Still having problem to find home for the Croesus proceeds!

Yes,.. I know, bro,... but problems need to occur first before remedial steps can be takes,... and investors like us need to alert the regulators towards matters like this. I always say,... we need to cooperate with the regulators to make a better environment for everybody,...

So, this time,... Mr Tan of RegCo is going to focus onto this,... he heard us/'me',.... we must lobby to the right people too,... AND we must not complain of too many things too,.... biggrin.gif

All the behaviours count,... Majulah Singapura....

Place your sitting funds into FD for now,... wait for mkt to correct then,... at least you know your SGD is strengthening vs the RM,.....

Yeah

My SGD has been strengthening since 2.30 vs MYR.    laugh.gif

smile.gif Almost same here,... mine from 2.18%,.... smile.gif

However,... I think due to a concept called Time Value of Money,... as the years go by, this 'profit from the exchange rate' will be lesser and lesser on a per annum basis if we do not grow that SGD in-hand,... Reasons being :-

1) Our holdings will not grow in absolute amount so quickly because SG Banks' interest rates are low, very low,... hence, even if we compound over the SGD in-hand, the growth rate is still going to be low.
2) The exchange rate will not grow so quickly, and certainly, there will be a stop-point at the exchange rate trajectory,...

We just have to find a way to increase our SGD money in our coffers,.... to achieve a higher CAGR,... hmm.gif

Opinions ?

Nothing is confirm unless it's ink in black and white. If they do that,  you think companies will still want to list in SG. They will run over to HK.
Wrong place. Better parking place would be SSB.  One have SGD100k quota.

Bro,...what you taking ????? HKSE is practising this now,... pls read more first,... maybe if you say move to our kangkong Bursa, yeah-lar,...

Bro,.. you sure you can buy the SSB ??? Last I saw, only citizens can buy,... chk again,....

When I first moved my investments in 2009, it was to hedge against the MYR and at the same time earn dividends, thus SReits.
Those days, AIMS was yielding 10% and Sabana 12%!  brows.gif

Was a good move as I saw how gomen was spending like no tomorrow.

Wrong.  More and more companies are looking at HKSE to list instead of SGX. Few homegrown SG companies choose to list in HK over SG. SGX trading volume have been low. Even OSIM also delist from SGX and choose to list on HK instead.
*
There will be choices of locations to list in always,... it's a free global mkt,... still, the SGX will do the necessary. Some further information as below :-

Value of IPOs by Singapore issuers up 78% in H1

THE overall number of initial public offerings (IPOs) - domestic and cross-border - by Singapore issuers was up in the first six months of this year, with 12 listings raising US$459 million or 78 per cent more year on year, a report said.

At 12, the number of listings in the first half-year was up from 10 in the same period a year ago, but the annual number of Singapore IPO listings has been on the decline in the last decade, the Baker McKenzie report highlighted. Singapore issuers were also not as active as their counterparts in Asia in the first half of the year.

Domestic capital raising by Singapore issuers rose by 64 per cent, although the total number of issuances halved. On the other hand, the number of cross border listings went up by 300 per cent in volume and 166 per cent in value.

Hong Kong and Australia proved to be popular destinations for cross-border IPOs. By sector, industrial companies made up nearly 40 per cent of the cross-border IPOs by value, while real estate was in second place at 22 per cent. These include companies such as HPC Holdings and ZACD Group.

Meanwhile, "Singapore has been rolling out programmes to boost its competitiveness and to attract technology companies to list in the local bourse," the report said.

These include tying up with the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange to encourage tech and healthcare firms to list on both exchanges by helping them with the pre-listing stage as well as during the listing process.

Why do you think our own Singh also hates SGX? biggrin.gif

Time will tell,... see how SG and The SGX evolves to survive, and further-on, to win in the mkt-place,.... NO point arguing over this now,... biggrin.gif

Keppel Corp is also strong in property development,...

What I know is local SGreans are cursing SGX.  Reasons
1) many IPOs choose to list in HK rather SG
2) trading volume of SGX is very weak
3) when world market rises, SGX is practically stagnant or go down instead

Well if you read the comments in forums and investingnote.
*
Yes,.. I do agree on ur points above,.. and that SGreans are downbeat on The SGX. I think they wanted more excitement in the trading volumes,.... biggrin.gif

For myself,.. for safety and for safeguards against unsystemic risks, I will continue to vouch for the SGX.

Let's see in another 5 years from today,...if the The SGX 'fails', the SGD will weaken,...

Yeah

We ALL have different objectives.

I am 56 years young. So i am trying to build my DIVIDEND nest. Not so interested in growth companies any more.
SGX allows me to have this and also to hedge against the MYR in devaluation. I have NO confidence ine Msian gomen managing the national economy and fiscal side of the books at all.
SGX has gone through the 3338 support this morning. Be ware .............

Hehehe,... Beware, bro ?? I'd rather say,... be READY !!! Ready bullets,...

The gov't does not mind the RM weakening further, based on a report this morning, but I did not read the whole article, just glimpsed the article only (speed-reading biggrin.gif ) on my way to work. If like that, better start converting again before the RM weakens further,...

Just a friendly comment,...

But the problem is : the counters that I wished to buy did not fall much,... sad.gif

Get 10 to 12% yields with forex gains too!  BUt those yields are drying up.  icon_question.gif
Therefore, have to search other avenues to continue to sow and reap more yields, therefore US mkts.

*
The yields are drying-up because the unit prices have gone up. Hence, we must be able to buy early,.... That's the secret. To be able to buy early, must be able to identify the "good" REIT first,...

Yields have dried up due to 2 main reasons

a) investors chased the yields and prices have gone up
b) the companies are not able to have organic growth to increase the income with the prices

Think the second one is a big issue. NO growth and worse still like Manulife, they grow negatively!  This is SCUMbag manager. Bigger portfolio, bigger FEES!  mad.gif
*
I think a) above ran faster than b). Hence, the yields are compressed,... It's not easy to do b) in the current environment.

I have come to realize that some REITs have more ambitions to grow their Assets-under-Mgmt (AUM) than to sustain and grow dpu's for unitholders, in spite of what they say in their commentaries ! When they grow their AUMs, they also reap more acquisition fees. Dpu-accretivity will take a back-seat than in such ambitions.

Examples here would be : Manulife US REIT and Ascott Residence Trust. I think,... I suspect, for institutional investors, they would want this. It's in their kpi to buy REITs with larger AUMs. But it's just a gutfeel here.

Hence, for REITs which are targetting insto's to buy them,... will put the FIRST FOCUS as increasing AUM.

I will emphasize on this above point when I give my next talk to investors....

Disclosures : Sold-off Manulife US REIT last month and did not participate in the Pref Offering Exercise. Sold-off Ascot Residence Trust a few years ago after attending the AGM.

I don't think it is categorized as "crazy fall".
But more about worry about its long term future.

Even in Malaysia, telcos share price are also in the same trend, high dividend yield, but price stagnant and sliding slowly over the long term.

Voice business - sunset business, shrinking as time goes.
Broadband - people will use more data, but subscription fee is trending to cheaper side.

While telcos constantly may need capex to catch up the newest technology, 3G -> 4G ->5G.

So market doesn't expect big surprise jump in profit for telcos generally, hence lackluster share price.

The only positive side is its attractive yield, but will it able to compensate the sliding share price?
A big question mark here.

I do admit Singtel yield is quite tempting at current level.
*
Just an opinion here : I held Starhub for many yrs, collected a lot of dividends. After sometime, the price started sliding. Then the dpu was reduced from 20 cts to 15 cts,.. I think,.. and I sold-off. Cap app was in the negative when I sold-off, but after counting in all the dividends I collected throughout the yrs, I was still in the green.
