World Economic Forum's main index components,....

https://www.thestar.com.my/business/busines...veness#cxrecs_s

Singapore is FIRST in the world.

Msia is 27th in the world.

Singapore and Msia are first and second respectively in ASEAN.

There will be arguments that Singapore is such a small place, hence, easier to manage. Going by this basis, many small countries in the world has not been acknowledged like this, but Singapore.

I'm glad I can go to Singapore so easily....

And,... hence,... the strength of the Singapore Dollar !

Is the debt due to its expansion plan into Cambodia and Vietnam market  and acquisition of Sabeco in 2017?

Yeah bro,... more so towards its acquisition of Sabeco. Said Sabeco will need a few yrs to be able to start yielding results,... hmm,...

But I did not do the chk-and-balance,... just listened to the conversation only,...

OK, if debt due to biz expansions for future, I think still accumulate if hold long.  Also I like their prospect of investing into Cambodia and Vietnam market.
*
Ok,... but I've seen long-term company plans and strategies got debunked when economic conditions changes, and especially so with so many disruptors in today's environment.

Need to be careful though, especially when gearing is too high.

Things change too rapidly today !

since buying in around Dec last year, Thaibev has made me pretty happy.
the CLMV play is big.. this guy knows his bread and butter business.

not planning to sell since the cost is far from here. Alcohol isnt a bad business to be in , in ASEAN.
*
Yes, you have a strong margin-of-safety then.

In fact, I do hear a lot of ThaiBev,... but I don't study it much after looking at its divvy payout. It's in a good industry, no doubt.

I think I have read somewhere the mgmt of ThaiBev is related to the mgmt of the sponsor of three of my REITs, namely the developer,.. Frasers Property Limited (FPL).

ya. my DBS is from 2015.

and i added till year 2018 at 29.00 kinda regret also..
so, i actually bought DBS at lowest and also at highest..

at 29 thinking will go to 40!!!

just keep for long long term div.
*
I think there shouldn't be any regrets for you. If you bought from 2015,... and averaged-up all the way, your worst price now would be around 25.00 ? ... but if you bought a lot more when the price was high compared against when it was low,... then it might be bad.

Dpu per year = $1.20, paid 4 x a year,....

Frankly, on my side,.. I'm not too keen on DBS because the yield is not good enough. But there is always the apprehension of what if I have the majority of my portfolio in REITs, and a big bad event hits ALL REITs at the same.

But after 2008/9, and after all lessons learnt during the GFC, will all REITs be hit at the same time by ANY big bad event ?

I'm not talking abt a world meltdown. If a world meltdown takes place, even DBS will plunge should I be holding DBS. I'm wary on ALL REITs only with the current portfolio tactic that I have in mind.

Do you think DBS will reduce the dpu payout ? They have just increased the dpu payout for 4QFY19 from 30c to 33c !

Anything is possible if economy continue to worsen. See how US and italy contain the virus, you will get the idea. Let us not forget russia, saudis + US is going to all out oil war.
It's either they cut dividend and or raise new funds if condition deteriorate.

Remember stingy banks can survive like ocbc, public banks do not need to cut dividends.

Short term no.
Prolong drag out yes.

I thank you,... but you just gave me a reply with general contents.

What would have happened to DBS before it will trigger DBS to reduce its dpu payout ?

Increasing defaults either from consumer or business.
People investing less and uses less of their service.
Once they start laying off their staff you know it is saving cash.

If their payout ratio is like 30%, yeah no problem. Their payout is like 58%.

So we will just wait.

For me, possible they cut dividend back to previous level if situation is bad. For ocbc, no dividend cuts.
*
Tq for your points.

I believed DBS will start trimming dpu payout first before they start laying off staff. What that will happen as a precursor to a dpu cut would be : stopping the hiring process.

At my end, frankly, I am using $1.10 as the estd dpu payout to evaluate my Buy Price today that decides my ROI. Not $1.20, and definitely not anything above $1.20 anymore.

The plus side is even if the DBS dpu drops, the Ringgit will drop in tandem to hold up our purchasing power back in Msia !

My opinions for you,....

FTSE ST Real Estate Investment drops more than 4%...guess SREITs are no longer safe haven, more likely direct impacts due to the virus

Yes, bro,... I saw the drops today too. Just that these drops make me salivate, and that I will be able to buy more soon.

However, I must keep in mind my asset-allocation strategy, ie not to buy too many of a supposedly good ctr/REIT. My overall portfolio green has dropped to 29.55% at this very moment. Used to be almost 40% up !

I am watching closely the retail and mall REITs. Some have pulled back so much.

Bros,... a few points before I log-off :-
1) I suspect some ctrs may not recover when funds have been moved around and 'upsets' have been created. Wealth distribution effect.
2) the virus is mutating,... vaccines will be harder to make here.
3) WHO DG said it will take 18 mths to come up with a vaccine.

Bros,... logistics and industrial players have hopes,... for now,... if they don't close the ports in future,...

REported today :-

SINGAPORE (Apr 26): Twenty members of the Port Authorities Roundtable (PAR) from Asia, Europe, Middle East, and North America came together on Friday to declare their commitment to keep their ports remaining open during the Covid-19 outbreak.

According to a press release by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) on Friday, the Singapore-initiated declaration calls for maritime countries – running major ports such as Abu Dhabi, Antwerp, Tokyo, Guangzhou, Busan, Barcelona, Bangkok, Los Angeles, Rotterdam, and Shanghai – to collaborate and share best practices so that port operations can remain undisrupted.

Through this declaration, the countries commit to ensure that merchant ships can continue to berth at their respective ports and keep the global supply chain going. They will also share experiences in combating Covid-19, amongst other terms.

Quah Ley Hoon, CEO of the MPA says that it is important to keep Singapore’s ports open and goods moving. “Port authorities have to take enhanced precautions for their ports and on ships, as well as manage the stress faced by our seafarers and maritime personnel,” she says.

“We have come together to make a declaration of our commitment, exchange experiences and share best practices. This virtual declaration by members countries across different geographical regions is also a first for the PAR”, she says.

“We came out of the session gaining more valuable knowledge to ensure that necessities and essential medical supplies continue to be transported seamlessly across the world and into our respective countries,” she adds.

Singapore, ranked as the world’s second-busiest container port, after Shanghai, is a key node in the global supply chain. Singapore’s trade volume is more than three times its GDP.

I can't really give yuo an accurate ratio here. I just go on day by day but I do ensure the amt I put back into my investments are funds generated from my divdiends, interests and coupons.

Frankly,.. bro,.. I think it's a waste of time to count this ratio,... but that's me,..

Grabbed up KDC REIT and ParkwayLife REIT today. Good long-term prospects for IT and healthcare industry.

Already owned OCBC, Ascendas REIT, CMT and SATS.

OCBC entered at 8.94 accidentally... Forgot to cancel my trade...
SATS entered at 3.07, now giving me a lot of headache. It's a baby blue in the past and has solid fundamentals.

Ascendas is the only one in green, entered at 2.88.
*
Bro,... for ctrs like SIA, SATS and SIAEC, these are related to the transportation - air travel industry. Wouldn't these be affected badly moving fwd ?

Declaration : I used to own all three above in the earlier days of my investing journey but taken profit and dividend for all and has never bought back.

Indeed. SATS is what we call a cyclical stock. I see it battered down almost half, so I buy right now and when the industry takes off again, I would profit. The only question is when.
That said, SATS has other businesses as well. It's not entirely on aviation. Whether the virus is around or not, people would still travel, go overseas to study, work etc. Planes would still be flying. Cargo business is a bright spot for now. That would keep the company running in the short term. (They have associates/JV with other companies on freight business).

And if things really go bad, they could consider venturing into catering industry based on their experience in the food solutions business. In the long run, at least within the next 5-10 years, Singapore (and asia-pacific) would still do well. And so would SATS.

They are still on positive cash flow and currently in a very low debt level, not to mention Temasek is a major shareholder. These need to be factored into consideration. I won't lose much if things go south, just 100 shares.
Yup. 1.98 P/BV ratio when I entered. But I have some 40 years of compounding interest for the dividends paid and 40 years of capital gains awaiting me ahead. A fall of 10-20% today is nothing compared to a 1600% return 40 years later. Stay invested all round, in any kind of environment. I think that's more important.

But well, I still have cash to invest in any further downturn. So, not an issue. Patience is all you need to generate wealth. In any case, I am a long-term investor, not a trader.

(About 10 years later I would be getting married, so let's see how much is my wedding present from shares invested today. tongue.gif )
*
Tq bro,... for the good write-up,... you refreshed my memory of SATS,.. thumbup.gif ,... I recalled SATS was bidding for some busniess many years ago at the Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal. What happened to that ? Good place, TMFT,...
