been driving normal sedans most of my life, took a few weeks to get comfortable in a small car.

i just dont like the door handle(the inside ones).

on highways, i just keep to 100kph only. it feels light.
get an auto.

Are you driving the MT? Reviews claim that it unlocks a certain degree of power in terms of performance. Not initial pick-up of course haha

At the end of the day, I believe a new car is the way to go. Turned down the offer for the decade-old Altis yesterday.  wink.gif
B-segment car can come into my life sometime in the future. Right now I need something with 4 wheels and moves lol. Yeap, comfort is not a doubt there!
Third-hand la while we're at this!  rclxms.gif

Can't really filter that out initially, doesn't matter anyway wink.gif

Fortunately I won't be dealing with downtown KL traffic often! But if you're saying that the car's quite fuel economic during the peak hour jam, then it must be really underrated man!

Haha ya la, gotta compensate with what the Axia offers in terms of cabin noise suppression. 40k tops car anyway, can't compare to that of a Beemer!

toyota altis 2003 is reliable.

since it is well maintain, well taken care, at least not much to worry.

new car could have issue too, but of course it is taken care by warranty.

I'd go for altis, more trusted. +Such a long distance travelling, get a bigger car, small car for city drive.

If the only issue with Axia is speed, then put Turbo in Axia, 2-3 years usage then remove before selling it.

Sure nice travelling with turbo back and forth from damansara to klia2

Turned down the offer a day ago bro, after weighing the pros and cons. But I'm quite concerned about maintenance. If it has been doing well for the past 12 years, who knows whether tomorrow will be the day it starts to give problems. nod.gif

Wow that's long drive! I'm happy with the legal limits so, no worries there. Do you drive there often? If you do, how's the fuel budget like

altis, basically nothing to worry, spare parts are reasonable priced and easy to get

Im driving altis 2007 1.6. Tell you what, till now there is no major break down or spareparts changes due to failure changed that more than 700RM above. What i did just normal service under pondok bengkel.

Its toyota altis, nearly all foreman know how to fix that piece of metal.

FYI: comfort will overtake the small car. interms of spareparts, it basically last u VERY VERY long time of daily drive. Since u just driving for 3 years, just take it up.

And + 1 on the aircon, the coolest car's air con ever. Most of the time i just make it the lowest fan speed and highest temperature ~28C which still DAMN cool. for my opinion, old toyota parts pretty tahan lazak.

Altis hands down.

Only issue is with early 1zzfe, there is a oil consumption issue, just check your oil regularly or use thicker oil to reduce.

My 1.8 gets 200+km for RM40 worth of petrol @ RM1.90 for 100% KL city driving (1 driver &1 passenger)

I was in the same situation and I have made my situation a month ago by buying an used 07' Vios mileage 60k+. Below are the characteristics:

1.Car owner was a lady
2.Service maintenance sent to Toyota Service center at all times
3.Only fully-synthetic oil is used
4.Interior is good as new
5.RM2k plus was spent by previous owner on window tints
6.Rarely outstation.

Owner was willing to spend on the car and I know her. But:-
1.Driveshafts front rubber boots both torn off,not usable anymore, the grease in it is melted into liquid form but thank god the driveshafts are still usable.
2.Automatic fluid is darn black, bet it hasn't been changed since new. Had all that changed and it cost me close to 1k for now.

Then I was told that:-
1.Rubbers around the stabilizer require replacements
2.Power steering minor leakage.
3.Front absorber minor leakage

But, it is still ok lol because parts are cheap and considered reliable because it is all minor.

Well I guess if you are willing to go through hassle, then it is ok.

In the end, it is still a used car.

Aiyo, how u can compare a 12 years car vs new cheap axia? How much the altis asking?

For toyota car, even is a 12 year altis, is much more comfortable than a perodua.

for al years altis, basically nothing to worry, spare parts are reasonable priced and easy to get.

few thinds u can do,

1. Get a good paint job. The most important in a paint job is sent to a garage with oven and make sure a second layer of protective coat is laid with good qualltytype.

2. If car service regularly, no need to worry, as long as every 7 or 8k km are serviced with at least semi synthetic oil, then forget about overhaul.

3. Mostly, all used cars,  will have oil leaked in engine block, get the engine cover gasket changed, cost about 100.

4. Alternators, conveyor belt, suspension, engine mounting, cooling fan, spark plugs, original air filter, cabin filter, once get changed, ur car is as smooth as new car.

toyota car is reliable.

Perodua Axia is actually a daihatsu, which is also means it is a toyota family member.

so, from your above post it means axia better than 12 years altis because they are both toyota.

your point 2,3 and 4 are valid for any car, even an aged ferrari. so might as well tell him to get any car laugh.gif

I see. Periodic maintenance checks is the key then! Pretty decent fuel mileage there for urban city driving! I hope your 1.8 continues to treat you well man!

@walkmanphone pretty low mileage too. Sounds like you got yourself a good deal there! How did you figure out the driveshaft issue? Lol willing to spend on the car but never bothered to change the ATF? haha! Dude all in all it's just a car. I don't know about you, but these days fixed assets are prioritised over cars in terms of luxury value. I may not be equally as experienced as anyone here but I do know one thing for sure- a car is a car. It moves, it saves petrol and doesn't break down; then it's a good car thumbup.gif

@big1 haha yeap, basically all Perodua babies have Toyota/ Daihatsu DNA in them. Time to look up carlist.my for a Mini Austin then! haha I kinda considered the idea of getting a project car but then again, that car's like 20 years old AT LEAST.

This is how i test the driveshaft,i drive on a steep hill and come to a stop,as i move the car while steering left or right, ocassionally it used to have krak krak sound. But after i replace the torn rubber boots and reapply new grease. The sound gone.Still,i would define this car as a good ride as it doesnt give big issues since the car is a simple car and easy to fix my own.

used to consider nissan sentra as well, but the way how they design the engine compartment doesnt make maintenance and certain parts replacement easy.

Ultimately, its not only about good experience but also how they make it simple.Guess im not the majority because most people demand more features, this n that,so much sensors,so much headache.

The altis u go for a drive first

See smooth or not

I tested one before where the accelerator pedal not that smooth.. Like got stuck a bit when wanna start accelerate..

Other than that... See the condition..seats may need to put more sponge in.. Thats all biggrin.gif

Its safer than axia..more comfy for sure..

Oh yea..and those who say new car no problem or better and more reliable..those are not true.. My new car got problem till now the sc cant fucking solve em.. Keep calling them they say wanna get back to me but no reply at all.. Older cars on the other hand needs a bit more maintenance and care but then theyre proven that they can run and work well..

been on sedans for more than 5 years. with hatchback as an extra because only 2 person. and now on hatchback.

if i were you, i'd choose the used car over the new axia.

comfort wise - a sedan will always be more spacious that a hatch. (i have quite long legs, thus my hatchback is now for 4 person include driver. the back of my seat is too small.

fuel saving - ever heard of higher cc cars will spend less fuel cruising on highway? although lower cc cars have better fc in town areas, my previous elantra 1.8 goes almost 400km half tank on highway. it was a 10 year old car. (note : axia 150km 1 bar? what speed were you driving at? 80kph all day? and whats the total mileage for THAT tank that u got 150km 1 or 2 bar.)

think of it, 150km DAILY. spend a bit more for your comfort. u need to be healthy and fit for your job.

better safety - i'm not sure about the airbags etc but, look at the pictures around the web. proton and peroduas. what are the results?

more power - you will sometimes need more power to go around. uphill, more passengers etc. why settling for lower cc when u can go bigger.

car maintenance can be hard, can be expansive but it will be worth it. take good care of your car. regular check ups, service with least modification will make your car last long.

new car got warranty. but then how long it would take them to replace it? no stock. no foreman that knows how to do it. it's not covered. this that. i've been there. repaired my water pump pipe (metal pipe) because of my exhaust lol.

just what i feel. i'd get the altis no matter what lol.
