QUOTE Indonesia Orders 11 Eurocopter Panther Helicopters To Re-Kindle Anti-Submarine Unit
Source : Our Bureau ~ Dated : Thursday, September 17, 2015 @ 09:26 AM
Indonesia has ordered 11 Panther helicopters to re-enforce its anti-submarine unit.
"The helicopters would be delivered gradually with four units to arrive by 2017," Navy spokesperson Rear Admiral M Zainuddin was quoted as saying by Xinhua news agency Wednesday.
Squadron 100 was once regarded as one of the most powerful military units in the world in the 1960s.It was taken out of service in the late 1980s.
Soon after the arrival of the helicopters, the squadron will be activated, he said, adding that the contract to acquire those helicopters has been approved by government and the producer.
The Eurocopter SA 565 Panther helicopter is designed to carry out a wide range of military operations that include combat assault, fire support, anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, search and rescue and medical evacuation.
Zainuddin said that the Navy is also expecting the arrival of six submarines - three Chang Bogo-class and three Kilo-class. The first three are scheduled to be delivered in 2017. http://www.defenseworld.net/news/14083/Ind...it#.VftwHDnlplE

Defense analyst say US has spent $110 Billion USD trying to rebuild Afghanistan The U.S. reconstruction of Afghanistan was one of the worst foreign policy failures in American history. Taxpayers have wasted billions on roads that don’t work, buildings that don’t exist and weapons Afghan soldiers don’t know how to use. Since World War II, The US has spent an incredible amount of time, effort and money rebuilding the countries it invades, which is a noble goal and can be successful. But reconstruction in Afghanistan is a mess. John Sopko, the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction has admitted that the US has spent around $110 Billion USD in trying to build a semblage of normalcy in Afghanistan. “To give that number some perspective,” Sopko explained. “After adjusting for inflation, Afghanistan reconstruction exceeds the value of the entire Marshall Plan effort to rebuild Western Europe after World War II.”

I remembered reading somewhere that the 'teeth-to-tail ratio' (the ratio of soldiers who do secondary work like logistics support or intelligence duties vs soldiers who are actually fighting on the front lines) in the US military is so massive, it was speculated that only 30% of the US military are front-line soldiers. Wonder if this is true?

A Venezuelan air force jet has crashed after it was deployed to the northwestern region of the country to verify information that an aircraft had entered Venezuelan airspace, the ministry of defense reported Thursday.
“At approximately 21:07 hours of Sept. 17, 2015, an airplane Sukhoi-30 of the air force has crashed with pilots Cap. Ronald Ramirez and Cap. Jackson Garcia on board,” the Minister of Defense Vladimir Padrino Lopez said in a statement.
