You will have to look at the terms of the contract. However, from my interpretation, he seems to be more of an employee. Does he have a EA? Just a guide, the word "employee" is defined in the act as :

“Employee” in relation to an employment means -
a. the servant, where the relationship of master and servant subsists;
b. where the relationship of master and servant does not subsist, the holder of the appointment or office which constitutes the employment.

If he is a contracted employee, he is not allowed to deduct any of his direct expenses.
Yes. He is an employee. He is has an EA form.

I was told by the him, the previous accountant who did the submissions for him, advised him that he is entitled to deduct the expenses as such, hair cut, shirts etc as these are 'tools' which are necessary for him to carry out his duty effectively. As the previous accountant charged him to accessively, he came to me. FYI, I am doing it FOC for him seeing that he is my closed fren and I am just trying my best to assist him. I am not an accountant btw.

So how much is the limit set for this category?

Thanks.

Your friend is not entitled to those deduction as mentioned by your previous accountant. The scope of deduction for employment income is extremely limited.

all tax-exempted allowances NO NEED to put in e-BE form ... why everyone thinks these figure need to be shown ? It's only in Section G of the EA form for references only.

Your total salary should be deducted accordingly from the allowances

There is a link for e-payment after you submit, and there's a tutorial where you can download too.
Just follow what it says and there you go...

I just heard some Tax advice from 988 radio station.

Beside medical bill, we can charged "healthcare product bought for parents" under RM5000 for parent medical relief.
This include vitamin bought from pharmacy and chinese and western medical (ginseng and etc) products.

1. So, can I charge things like Anlene Gold and Brands Chicken Essence?

2. Can those chargeable item share the same receipt with non-chargeable item?
For example I got one receipt worth RM300. Out of 300, only 100 is spend on Anlene Gold and 50 is spend on Brands.
The others 150 is spend on things like dynamo.

Thanks for advice!

The medical expenses is only allowed as relief if it is prescribed by an approved practitioner, well, like a doctor. If there's a prescription on the medication needed by ur parents, then you go buy them at the pharmacy, such medical expenses is allowed.

I doubt ginseng or chicken essence is considered as medical expenses.

Yup, I also doubt those things can be claimed but it is the adviced from tax professional invited by 988 radio to consult public.

Any tax professional here can verify this?

Thanks!

I can categorically confirm that chicken soup even though recommended by Dr cannot be claimed as medical expenses fot income tax purposes.

Haiya, only medical expenses incurred by parent as evidenced by receipt from Doctor registered with MMA will be considered. Although extension is given to nursing home/care.
