for m2card amex, should just combine all into "MCC 5812 / 5813 / 5814 - Dining"

inside each individual outlet, add the respective MCC if info available.

reason is Maybank has no easy way to extract the MCC upon calling in. Most staffs wouldnt know how. sometimes put us on hold for some time, or they call back.


for HLB Wise, their system can immediately tell you the MCC associated to the particular transaction.

but i think if separate also good. sometimes if we are using other cc and we can refer to that list to know whether we are entitled for the cb.
for eg. if we are using hlb mach, then we should avoid using it at Starbucks - Midvalley / Sunway Pyramid / The Curve / The Gardens and Starbucks Signature - 1 Utama (Old Wing) as per the 5813 list under mbb2amex.

is it paying bills (phone,eletricity etc) in some of the grocery store that offers bill payments options, will result to the mcc code for groceries too? or is it different code already?

gotta try baru tahu.

not many, if not all, grocery stores doesnt allow bill payment, especially using credit cards.

one exception so far is Sam's Groceria, that we were made aware recently that accept bill payment using credit cards, and Sam's is under MCC 5411, Grocery category.

the transaction relationship is like this (simplified, general idea):

1) Grocery store links to a specific payment gateway service, e.g. popular one is ePay
2) Grocery store initiate payment to ePay.
3) ePay pays to bill payees (e.g. TM or TNB or etc).
4) Grocery store charge you for the payment.
5) You pay the Grocery store as usual, using credit cards.
6) Credit card banks recognizes the Grocery store under MCC 5411 category (if MCC is properly & correctly registered sweat.gif )


what grocery stores in your mind? share share the location(s), so that other adventurous forumers can try biggrin.gif


p/s: Even Petronas service stations allow bill payment cuz they are using ePay too. Other could try swiping their cards to pay bills, possibly under Petrol category with MCC 5541.

For uob vox / cimb cash rewards / ambank true, i can confirmed transaction at 11street and lazada is under online category.

For hlb wise, any payment at mobile kiosk machine or counter confirmed under mobile category. Yes 4G also under mobile if pay or reload via their website.

Buy from the CS counter of GF of Midvalley Aeon.
If you buy from 3rd floor in Midvalley it is under Departmental which i always bought there.
The one in GF should be under SKMT which is grocery category.
If i'm not mistaken someone did verify before.

I just wondering the MCC code is the same worldwide. Let say if I swipe at Giant singapore, would it be consider as grocery as well? If yes, would I entitled for the Cash Rebate if I have grocery cash rebate for my CC?

yes, but some cards did mention rebates only in malaysia or worldwide. so you need to pay attention to that.

Thanks for your findings. rclxms.gif It is good to know that Maybank will give cashback for the actual dining transactions, even though the transactions may wrongfully be given non-dining MCC by acquirer bank.

The same cannot be said for Hong Leong Bank. The terms and conditions for Hong Leong credit cards clearly states that cashback will not be given for transactions with MCC wrongfully assigned by the acquirer bank.

because i keep on insist to have the mcc revealed to me. i said that i'm frustrated to find sometimes certain restaurants using terminal which does not belong to their category. i said i encountered once a restaurant using a terminal registered under the previous shoplot tenant's terminal. luckily the previous tenant of that shoplot was a drinking place so it's still covered under mbb2amex dining cb (probably same owner changing different restaurant business). i also complained that not all starbucks using the same mcc which under dining so i need to know the mcc to avoid those starbucks outlets. then she said we can always call in, and they will put a request note and usually the management will approve for you to get back the cb.

the right question to ask is, what's the nature of business for MyEG? that's how MCC is assigned, right?

even if MyEG can pay restaurant bills (example), it's still goes back to MyEG's business nature.

The MCC Code is set in the CC terminal which you use your CC to swipe at.
It's not based on the Merchant Name.

Just to confirm if those groceries list such as tesco and aeon big, does that means anything that we buy from those stores are considered groceries (ex: clothes) and not just limited to vegetables, fruits, etc?

Did anyone know Jusco in Queenbay mall that selling groceries are categories as what department?
Because i am wondering if i take Maybank Islamic card which have groceries rebate and not sure Jusco is under the Groceries categories or not. Thanks.

whenever i go starbuck, i see there is more than one terminal for cc and usually different bank..
i guess they configure different MCC on each terminal they get from different bank..

probably so, but to be safe, dont use card to manually swipe for sbux reload biggrin.gif maybe one fine day use it to purchase instead, jsut to see the mcc biggrin.gif

IWK @ posonline is showing "POS MALAYSIA-ONLINE KUALA LUMPUR MY" in the cc statement. seems to be more Online category than Utilities or even Goverment Svcs

If you have gotten the rebate, for sure the transaction is under dinning category, but you will need to check with CS what is the MCC code as it won't appear in your statement.

I swiped Maybank 2 Card American Express for the following transaction.

MCC 5814 - Fast Food Restaurants:

- McDonald's AEON Taman Maluri, Cheras, Kuala Lumpur.

- Maybank Credit Card Terminal, which can accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB and Visa Paywave Credit Cards.

- No minimum amount is required to use credit card for payment.

I use Vox to pay Aeon CC via PosOnline and got rebate, PBB VS and CIMB CR are entitled too, so it is under Online/E-commerce transaction. Note that you can only pay Aeon credit cards, not other banks' credit cards.

Here are the possible interpretations:
•02 - PAN auto-entry via magnetic stripe, track data is not required, 2 - no PIN.
•05 - PAN auto-entry via chip, 2 - no PIN.
•09 - E-Commerce, 0 - unknown PIN capability.
•80 - Fallback to magnetic stripe, 0 - unknown PIN capability.
•90 - PAN auto-entry via magnetic stripe, track data should be transmitted within the authorization request, 0 - unknown PIN capability.

Unifi is a service from TM company. what code applies to TM will apply to their services too.

As far as I know TM is not registered under Master or Visa as a merchant, however they belong to MCC 4814 if they do register.

I have a suggestion to indicate the very few AEON Supermarkets that sells Aeon Gift Vouchers.

Most of the times, the vouchers are sold in Aeon Departmental. That is why we should compile a list of Aeon outlets, whereby the vouchers are sold in supermarket area.

You can maintain the existing presentation for the other AEON Supermarkets.

AEON Supermarket - 1 Utama
AEON Supermarket - Bukit Tinggi


I would like to suggest the presentation of AEON Supermarkets that sells Aeon Gift Vouchers to be as follows, in your MCC list:

AEON Supermarket - IOI Mall (also for purchase of Aeon Gift Vouchers)
AEON Supermarket - Mahkota Cheras (also for purchase of Aeon Gift Vouchers)

I can confirm purchasing Aeon vouchers at Aeon Metro Prima is under Groceries as the cashier will bring you go down to customer service counter (next to the grocery cashier) to pay. SMKT is written on the credit card slip. Been doing this all the while.

When I googled up this MCC code, it is "Taxicabs/Limousines".

Huh? Cimb system really suck now..ipay88 suppose to be online payment right? Which card u use for this transaction? Is it cimb cash back card? If yes, did they give u 5% cashback?

I asked two different CIMB CS officers about MCC. Yeah, it is weird for iPay88, to be known as a departmental store. sweat.gif

all Giants using same grocery MCC. no need to worry much.

receipt name is useless, it shows the main company name. it has no meaning to cc transaction n mcc assignment, which is based on Giant names, usually Giant s/market or Giant h/mkt or Giant hypermkt or Giant s/store.

I am happy, just like you. rclxm9.gif KFC with credit card terminals gives me more reasons to use my Maybank 2 Card American Express Credit Card, to get 5% weekend cashback.

KFC outlet at Quill City Mall, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, also has Maybank credit card terminals, but I have not swiped my card there yet.

Then again, compared to McDonalds staffs, KFC staffs are less supportable of credit card usage. At times, when I see the credit card terminals at other KFC outlets appear to be working fine, KFC staffs just lazily say that the terminals are out-of-order. mad.gif

Hopefully, more and more KFC outlets will have functional credit card terminals, so that we can easily perform cashless transactions, with our credit cards. smile.gif

i've spent a lot at oversea using cashback card and always get the cashback.

scb gold mastercard (now the name is scb plat), aeonbig visa, uob yolo visa, cimb cash rebate mastercard, and even mbb amex on weekend.

even funny, cimb cash rebate platinum give petrol cashback instead of foreign currency cashback when i pump petrol (bp, caltex) outside malaysia.
luckily petrol and foreign currency both is same 2% (my cimb statement never reach rm3k since the 2% cashback max is rm30 only so max swipe is rm1500).

so far only 1 outlet reported since 2017, that's the 1U outlet, but for transaction above RM50.00 only they accept cc. thumbup.gif
