Hi,

Receiving roaming calls in Korean is very expensive may cost you more than RM3.00/min. Answering 10 incoming calls will cost you RM30 (once press answer button RM3 gone!!) !! If you must answer roaming calls from Malaysia, try use international call forwarding service at RM0.45/min only. http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1586311

You can rent a Korea phone at Incheon aiport @ 2000 won/day and divert all your inbound Malaysia calls to your Korea number at RM0.45/min.

How about want to make call to friend within the group that together visit korea?
Is there any other alternative beside renting the phone at the airport?

I'm planning visiting korea with a friend of 4. Afraid that one of them going missing during the trip!!!

Outgoing call using Malaysia phone eg Maxis may cost you RM4.00/min ( by 1 minute block) when roaming in Korea. If you rent a local Korea phone, the rates are:

-Rental Fee: VisitKorea member special rate - 1,700won/day
-Domestic call rates:90 won (0.07 USD)/10sec
-Charged by the airtime used
USA - 720 won (0.59 USD)/min
China - 960 won (0.78 USD)/min
Japan - 864 won (0.70 USD)/min
Calling Malaysia number should be <1000 won/min

The most cost efficient way for 4 person is

Rent 2 sets of call forwarding DID and 2 sets of Korea number. ie
Two person share one set each.

With this arrangement, you can split to two groups during shopping in complex without fear of missing. Korea to Korea domestic call is 90won/10sec.

Another reason why you need at least two sets of Korea local phone is because your friends will not answer any call or turn off their Malaysia phones because roaming call is just too prohibitory expensive. BTW sms back to Malaysia using Maxis is RM2 per sms.

South Korean cell phone carriers utilize highly specialized CDMA technology. Unlocked GSM cell phones can not used there. So, phone rental is the most cost efficient.

The funny thing is our 3G phone with maxis SIM card can roam in Korea (according to Maxis website) but if we buy a Korean SIM card and try to put it in our 3G phone, it will not work. That's why we must rent a Korean phone.

Other than shopping (Which is also not my cup of tea), Ancient Korean histories and their best preserved ancient palaces, Kings' Tombs where few of them are part of UNESCO world heritage sites are worth a visit.

Also numerous ski resorts, the DMZ zone & etc.

As far as I know, Korean phones don't use SIM Cards. If u wanna buy a number, u must buy a phone. The phone registration thingy is quite tough, they don't allow u to register if u do not possess an Alien Card.

However, u can still use a 3G fon with Malaysia Sim Card to SMS. I was using Digi that time and each sms will cost RM 2. Receiving sms is free though.

they do not use sim card for the phone as the number come with the phone...as at some shop offer free phone and monthly bill is 15000w per month...

so guys if u guys planning to get a sim card jus forget it...go to KTO website and look for promotion from SK Telecom...reserve a phone and once u arrive take ur phone at the airport...
and for me...i just used the WORLD PHONE international Calling card amounting 10000w = +-rm30...n it is very very cheap to call malaysia...it's recommended dowh... notworthy.gif

for maxis user, the line will be transfered to the telco operator here and the sms charge wud be RM2 p/sms out...but for digi just forget it...it's NO SERVICE...celcomk i dunno...hehe

I've visited a few places and i recommend u guys to go to EVERLAND, N Seoul Tower, Namsangol Hanok Village...Nami Island aslo is a beautiful place...l came here w/o a tourist guide...it's challenging for the first day...but u will get to used to it the very next day...people here doesn't care much about us...mybe if u need help u can ask from the student as they can speak little english and but don't look down to some old folks since they are much better in english compare to the subway police..LOL...

Maybe you did not call Digi to activate the roaming service prior to travel ?
