there's airport train and buses operating up to 11pm. if can clear the immigration and collect luggage fast enough, then should be able to catch it. if not, just sleep in the airport.

I know Changi Air port have a very comfy spot for overnighter. What about Incheon Airport ? Can give some tips ?

Added on August 8, 2010, 1:59 pmObtain the following from TripAdvisor forum take the subway (if you are staying in Myeongdong) – take green line 2 (3 stops to Dongdaemun) change to blue line 1 (4 stops) to “Cheongnangyi subway station at Line 1. Take exit 4, follow the signboard to Cheongnangyi train Station (to your right). Buy a ticket to Gapyeong train station. The ticket cost 3,800 won one way and is a 1.5 hour ride. The train interval is every hour.
From the Gapyeong train station, you can take a cab to the ferry wharf. There are a lot of taxis outside the Gapyeong train station. Just tell them ferry station or Namiseoum and they will understand. It cost 3,500 won and is only about 5 minutes ride.
From the ferry wharf, you need to buy the ferry ticket which includes the Nami Island entry ticket, total is 8,000 won. The ferry ride is another 5-10 minutes.
Coming back is the same. At the ferry wharf, you need to walk straight ahead to the family mart in from of you and there are a lot of taxis waiting there. Just tell them train station. You will have to buy a train station to Cheongnangyi station to go back to Seoul.”

Air Asia Go Namiseom Island day trip package. RM300 per pax x 3 person = RM900.
https://www.airasiago.com/travel/show_activ...ct_last_index=6

Dear seng007,

If I DIY the above trip ( to avoid spending time in Ginseng Outlet and Amethyst Factory), do you think I can cover the transport, lunch, dinner under RM900 ?

It's quite likely to save some money if u go by urself. However, bear in mind that the trip would be quite troublesome.

Anywhere to Cheongnyangi Station (Subway) = around 1500 won/person x 2 (ways) x 3 (persons)
Cheongnyangi Station to Gapyeong (Train - train leaving at 10.30 am, 1 train/day) = 3800 won/person x 2 (ways)  x 3 (persons)
Gapyeong - Namiseon Island (Taxi) = 4000 won/trip x 2 (ways)
Ferry ride to the island (Ferry) = 8000 won/person  x 3 (persons)
Good meal in Nami Island = 10,000 won/person  x 3 (persons)
Having a meal for dinner back in Seoul = 7,000/person  x 3 (persons)

Total : Approximate (rough estimate) KRW 93,200 = ~ RM 260 for all. =) Divide by 3 = RM 90 each.

So by that, u save quite a lot of money, but make sure u have to wake up early to catch the train. Else u would have to wait until the next day.

Great info ! rclxms.gif rclxms.gif Thank you Seng007.

In Thailand, we can easily charter a private car or van with driver for 2000 to 3000 bath excluding petrol for one whole day, do you reckon such service in easily available in Seoul ?

Good news to all Korea bound travelers. There is a MITM travel fair held from today till sunday at Mid Valley Exhibition Center. There is a information booth set up by Korea Tourism Organization and you can ask questions about travel in Korea and collect free maps, free booklets/brochures from them.

For Korea ground arrangement, the fair offers 5D4N from RM900 to RM1200.

Now shopping for Down Jacket for winter sub-aero temperature liao..must do it soon before the end of Mega Sales..haha..Any good recommendations on Down jacket? Universla travellers, Winter Time? Goin Places?

Must buy this type and the inside filled with real soft down feathers of duck or goose. Some down jackets filled with synthetic materials inside or partially mixed with down feathers but claimed as down feather jacket. A real full down feathers jacket gives extremely high heat insulation properties and can keep you warm even in -30C.

i survived with a very thin winter jacket that the university gave me + one of my own hoodie (quite thick with dunno how to explain. not really fur but (?) lol) and one long sleeved shirt (belonged to bf)
(when i went on 1 week vacation in seoul).. so its ok lah~

The weather around this time usually around 10 degree C in the morning. However, the weather might vary due to some Siberian wind or what. Sometimes it can drop to around 0 suddenly. Make sure u watch weather forecast everyday before u go out to make sure u have the proper clothing. Rain would be minimal during this time since it's Fall already.

Thank you for the info.

I have not. Been doing research for days dy..There are limited winter shops in KL i.e Universal Traveler (having lotsa branches & major malls in Klang Valley), Winter Time & also Goin Places (Probably the oldest & cheapest as I was told). Now is mega sales best timing liao...I think they are available at Ikano, One U, Sunway Pyuramid, Mid Valley & more..Shopping this weekend or within this few days haha.. biggrin.gif

Actaully as what mentioned by huiyin, if dunwan down jacket, can use the normal fleece jacket (Wth syntetic fether or polyyester but you need lotsa layer of clothing..atleast 3 layers i.e  1st alyer long john, 2nd layer sweater & 3rd layer the jacket (Either fleece or syntectic) no need down liao like dat  biggrin.gif

But you must remember, the quoted Dec temperature at Seoul during mid Dec of -3 to 3 C is just a guidance, I was told temeprature during Dec can be as low as -20C!!
*
Is better to keep warm than sorry. After catching cold no more fun liao. Wasted more money than just the price of down jacket.
But huiyin, whats is the pricing of down jacket in Busan ?

QUOTE(stimix @ Aug 17 2010, 09:03 PM)
Watching Winter Sonata in fast forward mode now to familiarize wth Korean winter culture & Nami island..haha

That's my priority. The tree background is so very the famous. I must take the 12 mega pixels picture ( the highest pixel setting of my digital camera) with me and my GF riding a bicycle, then come back print it out big big and frame it up on the wall. My GF will sure drop death sayang me liao wub.gif wub.gif
Note: I've never watch Winter Sonata the drama.

Hi,

Receiving roaming calls in Korean is very expensive may cost you more than RM3.00/min. Answering 10 incoming calls will cost you RM30 (once press answer button RM3 gone!!) !! If you must answer roaming calls from Malaysia, try use international call forwarding service at RM0.45/min only. http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1586311

You can rent a Korea phone at Incheon aiport @ 2000 won/day and divert all your inbound Malaysia calls to your Korea number at RM0.45/min.

How about want to make call to friend within the group that together visit korea?
Is there any other alternative beside renting the phone at the airport?

I'm planning visiting korea with a friend of 4. Afraid that one of them going missing during the trip!!!
*
Outgoing call using Malaysia phone eg Maxis may cost you RM4.00/min ( by 1 minute block) when roaming in Korea. If you rent a local Korea phone, the rates are:

-Rental Fee: VisitKorea member special rate - 1,700won/day
-Domestic call rates:90 won (0.07 USD)/10sec
-Charged by the airtime used
USA - 720 won (0.59 USD)/min
China - 960 won (0.78 USD)/min
Japan - 864 won (0.70 USD)/min
Calling Malaysia number should be <1000 won/min

The most cost efficient way for 4 person is

Rent 2 sets of call forwarding DID and 2 sets of Korea number. ie
Two person share one set each.

With this arrangement, you can split to two groups during shopping in complex without fear of missing. Korea to Korea domestic call is 90won/10sec.

Another reason why you need at least two sets of Korea local phone is because your friends will not answer any call or turn off their Malaysia phones because roaming call is just too prohibitory expensive. BTW sms back to Malaysia using Maxis is RM2 per sms.

South Korean cell phone carriers utilize highly specialized CDMA technology. Unlocked GSM cell phones can not used there. So, phone rental is the most cost efficient.
*
The funny thing is our 3G phone with maxis SIM card can roam in Korea (according to Maxis website) but if we buy a Korean SIM card and try to put it in our 3G phone, it will not work. That's why we must rent a Korean phone.
