since haven have any job yet
budget tight
mind to ask how to check the condition of the keyboard?
think to get 2nd hand cherry mx blue razer black window ultimate

Test the typing to make sure no key chatter and all the click works as it should.
Tap more on the bigger modifier keys.
Fire up 10fastfinger.com or any typing test thingie to make sure you like it and feel comfortable with it.
Then see if all the led is alright and consistent, meaning no flicker or dim led.

I think these are some basic ones that I would do. Hope it helps smile.gif

Yeah, 100 moq for WKL kit does seem unreasonable in my opinion. Some guy mentioned that Troubled Minds set is the best-selling custom keycap GB of 2015 (not sure how true) and yet it couldn't hit WKL moq. I hope Massdrop / SP produces the WKL kit anyway out of sympathy for the users.

I might be reading it wrongly but the Tai-Hao link above doesn't include WKL kit into the base kit? Looks like an add-on to me.
I've not had the pleasure of owning GMK yet  sad.gif  But I did just buy a set of Originative Carbon Black, comes in standard 104 + WKL. It's only the second WKL compatible set I have, after the DSA Dolch purchased from bro quovadis123. In fact, I didn't even know the Dolch included WKL pieces and I have no use for them.
Wow that is ridiculous. You mean you're still waiting for keycaps to arrive? Over 1 year already?

I heard the story of DrugEr / JackAss cheating people's money on DSA Dolch, but I thought that was a one-off case and no other drama happening inside GH.

But for me, the main reason why I won't join a GH groupbuy (at least not yet) is purely due to the complexity. Judging from the Tai-Hao link above, reading the first post already so messy can get headache. I am afraid of misreading something or missing out a small detail.
*
i'm not sure about massdrop, but SP did made some kits that didn't hit moq a year back or so. that was when their PMK website just got started or something. can't recall what set it was.
i haven't join any SP keycaps groupbuy for quite some time already. my latest SP groupbuy was from EC's valentine set and before this, raindrop r2.
it took me quite sometime to jump into the WKL league due to the expensive WKL kit.
that's probably why it's hard to hit MOQ, expensive, and most WKL users go for GMK or BSP or cherry profile keycaps since it's all bundled together.

ahh, yes, that taihao gb has add-on for WKL after much request from interested participants.
those are dirt cheap, but it's cheaper to get from taobao instead of that GB actually...haha!!

yeah, coming end of next month will be 1 year anniversary since the start of the GB.

there's a lot of conman inside GH, some more distinct, while others work in a group wink.gif you can guess by the way they delay you with gazillions of excuses. interestingly, they have ppl to back them up. much like our politician's macai2.

at this point of time, i really don't want to recommend anyone joining groupbuys in GH as there's too much risk since the popular organizers have high tendency to delay the sh!t out of international orders. the other organizer whom i previously had trusted in, betrayed it with one of his latest GB. that's it for me, i have trust issue from now on with any GB done by that 2 organizers.

sometimes we do try to do a subgroupbuy from a groupbuy to consolidate our orders in order to save shipping cost, but it's only for selected ones.
just keep an eye out wink.gif

alternatively, you can get a retractable mini-usb cable from Daiso.
just plug it to your keyboard and retract them when not in use.

good on you both....

well when I mentioned at first on razer MKB.. my first response I get is that... they are over priced cheap switches and payment for marketing....

1. cheap clone khail switches
2. price is still the same after switching from cherry to khail
3. some marketing on some actuation point....
4. price is super expensive for MKB with khail switches....

Some commented khail swithes have problem as well and led problem as well.... if that is the case.. I am the luckiest person without having any problem and touch wood to survive without any problem as well...

I felt that it is die hard fans for cherry switches because it is German tech compare to Khail switch China tech..... that makes the biasness goes way ahead.... then of course I am not experience MKB user so for now BW Chroma serve me well since Jan 2015.... had a problem like repeating key press after releasing but that was solved with some firmware thing.....

So cheers to you two who is debating on Razer product and other MKB known products...
For me... I only understand that any MKB with khails switches are lousy and other MKB with cherry/gateron are superior and the next thing is the gaming MKB reasoning and non standard layout which give problem to keycaps customisation.... at least from this forum.. nevertheless I still appreciate all opinions...
*
laugh.gif
there could be a lot of factor to "hating" kailh switch.
my guess is that they being one of the early cherry mx clone, suffers the heaviest discrimination and prejudice and thus, tarnishing the reputation of kailh.

with all the hate and prejudice still heavy for kailh, razer handshake with kailh to make the new razer switch with lower actuation point.
because of that, the hate for kailh spills out to razer as well. sweat.gif

but gateron came in at a good time when majority of the mkb users around the world are looking into cheaper mx switches.
on top of cheaper mx switch, gateron offers translucent and transparent switch as well. some people gave it a try, and they give positive feedback. there's some issue with first generation gateron switches, but later on they fixed it, and then that's it. its swarming the mkb market already.

keycaps customization is...expensive cry.gif
but woe to me, because one of the main thing that attracts me to mkb is the ability to change/customize keycaps.
so to me, having standard layout is a must. that's why i have to avoid those non-standard layout keyboards until the aftermarket keycaps industry introduces universal spacebars. when that happens, there will be more peace among mkb users. hahaha!

technically with most normal keycaps groupbuy, you can get the standard kit + winkeyless or tsangan kit, you *should* have enough keys to change all the keycaps on blackwidow except for the spacebars.
but davey.havoc did post up a couple of links for some groupbuys in MD that does include 6u spacebar. i'm not sure if that spacebar can fit blackwidow or not.
need someone with a blackwidow and that otaku keyset to confirm tongue.gif

The reason why I didn't go for new Cherry black or red is due to the scratchy feeling that comes with it, even after lubing it.
Sensitive linear lover's finger user will understand it laugh.gif

Old Cherry MX Black aka Vintage Black
Pros
- Buttery smooth after lubing
- OG Cherry MX flex.gif

Cons
- Hard to find
- Expensive
- Not all harvested vintage blacks are in working condition

Gateron Linear
Pros
- Buttery smooth even before lubing
- Cheap
- New condition and can be bought easily

Cons
- Not cherry

How lah not to love Gateron?

But this comparison is from my personal experience and only covers for Linear switches.
I didn't try Gateron's clicky switch or tactile switch yet.

On a side note, from what I heard, Zealios tactile switch is good for those who loves a more pronounced tactile, but they are damn expensive sweat.gif

Oh, awesome stuff.
I've had a look at the form and it's priced well for a custom mkb.

I do have some questions though.
Is the custom mkb a TKL or 104?
Does Gateron switch feels the same as the Cherry?

Hope fellow sifus can shed some light in this matter.  notworthy.gif
*
it's a TKL.

gateron is a cherry mx compatible or clone. there will be minor difference if compared with cherry's.

but here's what i can say about gateron's linear switch which i have been using.

gateron linear beats cherry linear in terms of smoothness.
the spring feeling might varies for some, as in some might be ok with gateron's switch spring, some might prefer cherry's switch spring.

for example, i love cherry mx blue's spring on my linear. i have 60g korean springs which i haven't tested yet.

at the moment, gateron linear with cherry mx blue spring is the ideal configuration for me.

if you just want to compare quality, cherry still comes up top but gateron is only a fraction behind.

unfortunately it's only clear acrylic option with optional sandblasted finish for frosted matte finishing.
yes, it's mainly to diffuse the led.

Not mechanical. Get lost.
MX Browns are the most controversial switches I've ever had the pleasure of trying. Some hated it, some loved it, but it's often suggested as the gateway switch for new users.

You'll buy another one soon enough.
*
aww sheesh man, that's a mechanical keyboard alright, just that it's a different type of switch, QS1.
easy on the trigger will ya? sweat.gif

-Hzu- to be honest when i saw the spacebar, my first instinct is to run away LOL! when i see it's not cherry mx or mx compatible switch, i also run away because one of my main interest is changing keycaps set.
though i'm curious as to how it feels...is that yours?

Wow, didnt know there would be a thread for mechanical keyboard.

I was getting very fed up with my Microsoft Ergonomic 4000 that I bought used for RM60. The space key always seem stuck. I watched a few youtube video and follow their suggestion to mod but still sucks. Finally I toss it away and touring Low Yat looking for a new keyboard. To my surprise, it seem like many newer keyboard from Microsoft and Logitech also exhibit the same problem with the sticky space bar. In the end, I had no choice but to go mechanical.

I was in Sri Computer looking at the Gigabyte mechanical keyboard which cost RM299. I tried to ask for discount and the friendly sales promoted this few years old model from Cooler Master instead. The model was Trigger and it comes with Cherry MX Brown keys. The price? RM299 versus RM280 (after discount). Cooler Master Trigger came with macro keys and red backlight versus none for the Gigabyte.

Honestly Im quite happy with the purchase. Probably the most pricy keyboard ever for me personally but its really fun to type after getting used to it. I still in the process of getting used to it since my previous Microsoft had different layout and bigger keys to type on.

At first, I thought why would anyone bought red but after typing it extensively for 2 days, I can see why some people prefer the red. Even though I do feel the brown a bit light when testing the demo unit, it was totally different when I adjust to my computer seat and starting to type. It did really feel heavier especially when reaching for space bar, enter, shift, or whatever larger keys. However for the alphabetic keys, it is just the right feeling for me.
