what switch you want to lube?

it says it's a synthetic CHAIN lubricant, i didn't check on the specifics yet, but I wouldn't want to use lubricants if it's only made for metal type of material.
you need lubricants that is plastic safe.

just for your info, i bought a tamiya 10gm grease almost 2 years ago, up to today i didn't use up even a quarter yet LOL!

Aiseh, just use Singer lube for the sewing machine one. Can find in Ace hardware.

If you must know, just use plastic safe lubricant. Usually got some sort of "green" marking one.

Hello MK sifus I'm quite interested to get one MK (most prob TKLs) but am still reluctant due to the cost and worried that I may not like it after purchasing...
Though after so many research and have saw all who have used MKs rarely have negative feedback

Thus I'd like to have some questions answered to further help me decide notworthy.gif

I'm still a uni student who've just started going into programming and have started to go into android app development (still researching myself and learning) / web dev (currently interning and long story short - doing front end web development, involves php/bash/database/simple html/ jquery etc... )

1) Does MK help in programming/developing/coding, hopefully there are some who have used a laptop keyboard and moved to MK and share your experiences as this is my current situation, (using laptop keyboard)

2) I'm planning to buy a blank keycaps, but as i'm still new to programming, i'm still not familiar with all the symbols used (it'll be pretty cool if i could code on a blank keyboard tho.. so badass haha sweat.gif )

3) How does your colleagues react to those MK typing sounds as i understand they can get quite clicky (planning to get brown switches most likely)

4) Are all keycap size standard? Because i'm using a macbook air, and plan to remap the button via software for my command key and also change keycaps for the windows key to command key

I understand that MKs does not make a good programmer, but i'd just like some feedback and advices from sifus here and see what advices you all can give notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

Also is it true that some programmer actually just bring their MKs to work and code on VI/VIM without a laptop?? rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

Thank you all in advance notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

1) Proper layout will help you improve your typing speed and accuracy.

2) I do. My advice is: Learn touch typing first.

3) "Badass AF." "WHOA." "Is this even necessary?" "WHAT IS THIS FEELING"

4) Mods are sized differently than the alphabets but CTRL and Win key should be of the same size.

Also, to avoid from kena pukul by your colleagues, check with them first if they're OK with your keyboard noises. And vi, emacs, whatever does not matter. You use what you want.

For starters, get a cheap ones. The RM150 being sold by one guy here should be pretty good, just make sure turn off the LED to show your prowess as a professional, not some bling-bling vidya gaymens kid.

1) Proper layout as in understanding and knowing the keyboard layout?

2) Touch typing as in learning the proper finger placement on the keyboard and minimal finger movement when typing?

3) lol-ed at that haha sweat.gif

4) got it thanks

I went to lowyat plaza and looked around, and saw those bling blink one... nope... too much for my taste haha, but those DAS keyboard / WASDs blush.gif rolleyes.gif

Such a long time, I never put serious thoughts to reply a good questions.

First of all, thanks for your question.

I'm thread starter of this thread, and I will answer you in details.

<< 1) Does MK help in programming/developing/coding, hopefully there are some who have used a laptop keyboard and moved to MK and share your experiences as this is my current situation, (using laptop keyboard) >>
Nope. Definitely not helping. 1+1 = 2 as always.
But, if you type a lot and later developed Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Repetitive Strain Injury. It's good to switch to type in mechanical keyboard, because it's more ergonomics and slowly recover your injury.
You may notice since you are in programming, your typing speed will limited at certain point. Well, mkb does increase you typing feel, feeling in pleasure when typing.

<<2) I'm planning to buy a blank keycaps, but as i'm still new to programming, i'm still not familiar with all the symbols used (it'll be pretty cool if i could code on a blank keyboard tho.. so badass haha sweat.gif ) >>
I'm typing in custom dvorak typing layout, so, I'm using blank. Blank does not improve your typing skills, just that once you are a touch typist, you don't depends on printed font.

<<3) How does your colleagues react to those MK typing sounds as i understand they can get quite clicky (planning to get brown switches most likely)>>
You can get o-rings and fit to your keycaps and reduce typing sounds. Since you plan to get Brown switch, I don't see that as a problem.
Many colleagues do type in very irritating force as well, bising like hell.

<<4) Are all keycap size standard? Because i'm using a macbook air, and plan to remap the button via software for my command key and also change keycaps for the windows key to command key>>
Ya, you need to remap for win key to you command key.
You can use Karabiner app (previously known as keyremap4macbook), if you have any questions regarding this, feel free to ask me. I can provide you the script.

<<Also is it true that some programmer actually just bring their MKs to work and code on VI/VIM without a laptop?? >>
Ya, mostly. It's best if you use VIM, or maybe Sublime Text for now. Just to avoid using mouse, because it's reduce productivity.

regards,
quovadis123 (programmer portfolio to reply).

1. It doesn't. You suck at programing, and you'd probably will continue to suck unless you improve. It's the same as the guy who tried to buy a 1960s Gibson in order to play better, but unless he improves his playing, he will still suck.

2. Refer to 1.

3. If you're getting browns, it'll be quite quiet. Only Blues are excessively clicky.

4. Yes.

Depends on whether you have a bloody desktop.

Don't thank me, I think you're an idiot.

Ya, qwerty during young age
3 months, to reach optimal typing speed. (~1k tests taken in 10fastfingers.com, 77wpm)

Still can type in qwerty. But, I don't like qwerty, no points.
Using other people pc, then just go change their keyboard to dvorak and use. smile.gif

I read your question #1 again since I misread it. Mechanical keyboard won't help you get better in programming. I'm not sure what you're trying to say but I think you may have written your own question wrong. And about that keyboard, I can't remember his name but he's here. Just go few pages back, he have a big link in his signature. Also, MX Board 2.0 (by Cherry Corp. themselves) is now selling for RM170 only at Ultimate.Zone.

I use it with my laptop since my laptop gets very hot at the palm rest (stupid Nvidia).
