Tested earlier around 10pm, can download now but not back to original speed yet. Probably at 20-30% of normal download speed only. Good thing is no more stuck at waiting.

Yeah me too. This afternoon i got my normal download speed, then 8-9pm just now it slowed down. Able to download but not at original speed

Yeah i think the speed is back to normal again. Thanks to the users who reported this issue to TM. Knowing them if you guys hadn't said anything, they wouldn't acknowledge the problem and just leave it as it is. I'll just leave this thread open, just in case other users experience this problem in the future and use this thread as reference. Just refer to the previous pages for troubleshooting steps. Thanks again guys

I'll only be back in Malaysia on Friday so can't check my speeds yet,, but judging from the response here, I think it should all be good now. Big thanks to jin_akira for starting the thread and to the other posters for their responses.

Thanks to G-17 as well for running those IP tests and providing useful info and knowledge here. We all can learn from it and be prepared the next time it happens again

Oh oh. Happened to my unifi again- extremely slow download speed. It was ok yesterday. Browsing websites are ok.
8.56pm now. 18th August. Anyone can confirm their speed?

It's all good here; downloaded Speedtest by Ookla 19mb in less than 30 seconds Selangor region 20th August 3.13am

happened to me before, all i did was reboot then it worked again

Unfortunately it wasn't as easy as that. See the first post for the list of troubleshooting methods. Obviously restarting the phone would be one of the few things that we would try first haha

Maxis Fibre user here. Experiencing the same issue. However, I did managed to update the phone apps but at a ultra slow speed.
*
try to identify if other Maxis Fibre users are experiencing the same problem or not. if there are a few, then you should contact Maxis and describe to them the issue. but before that, you must first identify certain aspects; does it only affect updating only? have you tried downloading an app and see how fast it downloads? what about surfing online or watching YouTube? is it slow as well? and what about the iOS firmware? does it download fast or slow? have you tried resetting your router (off for 10-30 seconds and turn it back on)? have you tried logging out and back in your Apple ID in the App Store settings in 'Settings'?

okay so i downloaded Godfire: Rise of Prometheus just now. here's the result;

size: 1.14gb
start time: 2.22pm
end time: 3.19pm
duration: 57 minutes
internet: Unifi 20

in conclusion, i can still download apps but not at full speed. it would usually take 30 minutes or so. however, i don't think it's the same issue that we faced before where we couldn't even download a 2mb app. if other users are also experiencing speeds as bad as yours, then we can say it's a general issue. try asking your friends or relative who uses Unifi to try download some apps. that way we can pinpoint the location and number of people facing this issue.

Yup, same. Unifi only. Updating a 35MB app took more than 5 minutes. Celcom 4G speeds are normal. Someone contact Unifi Support via their twitter. They need to resolve this before iOS 9 hits tomorrow or users will be waiting till 2046 for their apps to get redownloaded after the OS update.
*
Dang now that you mentioned it.. If iOS 9 downloads slow it'll be a pain in the ass man. I was even planning to restore my phone and start from scratch. Please spam their Twitter guys. I would do it myself but i don't have a Twitter account. I think it's called TMConnect or something like that

okay so here's the text:

QUOTE
Dear Valued Customers,

Telekom Malaysia Berhad ™ wishes to inform that as part of its continuous effort to enhance its customer experience, we have upgraded our Domain Name System (DNS) infrastructure forĀ  our broadband services. This activity was applied automatically and does not require any configuration on the customer's side.

However, if you have modified the DNS setting of your modem, Residential Gateway (RG) or any other related device, please set the setting to "auto-assign" to be serviced by the upgraded DNS.

Please be informed that following this exercise, TM will decommission its previous DNS with IP address 202.188.1.5 in stages starting from September 2015 until November 2015. Customers who have manually set their DNS to this DNS may face difficulty in accessing the Internet. Therefore, we would like to advise our customers to set your DNS setting to "auto-assign" to ensure uninterrupted experience.

For further enquiries or assistance, please get in touch with us via e-mail to help@tm.com.my or tweet us @TMConnects.

Thank you.

i'm a bit clueless in this part, so i'll just explain the changes i made to my network via my devices. what i did was i changed my DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 by going to Network & Sharing Center -> [WIFI name] under Connections -> Properties under Activities -> Internet Protocol Version 4 Properties -> Use the following DNS server address -> set to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

that's all i did and i only did it on my desktop, laptop (both running Windows 7) and a Android tablet. i didn't make any changes on the other laptops in my house and my phone as well as my router. so here are my questions;

1. did the changes i made on those devices affect all other devices (my dad's, mom's laptop etc)? (i don't think so cause the other laptops can't access certain sites that can only be accessed if i change the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

2. if so, would choosing 'obtain DNS server address automatically' fix the problem?

3. if not, how do i set my DNS to 'auto-assign'?

Basically, doing no.2 = no.3 - meaning that setting your router to obtain DNS automatically from your ISP means to let the TM  auto-assign your DNS.  Only router settings will affect all devices on the network, which you can always override via settings on your devices if you wish to, which you have done on your desktop and laptop as you said. Just double check your router settings to make sure it is indeed set to retrieve the DNS automatically from ISP.

Fwiw, I'm still using a combination on OpenDNS and Google DNS  can now download at default speeds, so I'm not sure if this really is the issue here.
*
okay so if i proceed with no. 2/3, would i have to do it only on one device for the changes to take effect or must i do it on each device that has the DNS changed earlier? that's the thing; i did not make any router changes in regards to the DNS. the last time i did anything to my router was resetting it, and setting it back up only involves keying the WIFI name and Unifi details. so i doubt that the DNS changes i made on my desktop, laptop and tablet had anything to do with this.

so how do i double check my router settings to make sure that it's set to retrieve the DNS automatically from the ISP? i'm using the Asus RT-N14UHP router btw and i can't seem to find the setting related to the DNS server.

If you did not make any changes it should connect to the ISP's issued DNS automatically. I can't say since I don't have your router, but maybe you can try reading this; http://setuprouter.com/router/asus/rt-n10/dns.htm I know it's not the same model as yours but the GUI should be similar.

What you're doing is the reverse though. In that link, they're switching from automatic DNS to manual, but in your case you want it to be automatic. SO just follow the guide until you go to the WAN DNS Setting part and make sure the "Connect to DNS server automatically" option is set to Yes.

**if you're unsure, just take a screenshot and post it here.

Also, sometimes certain devices won't use the new DNS servers unless you reboot them. This doesn't affect smartphones, but just in case, each time you make any changes to your network, just disable your iPhone's wifi for a few seconds before turning it back on again (or just turn on airplane mode for a bit and then turn it off).

Okay will get on to it first thing tomorrow. Thanks for your help man

G-17 okay so out of curiosity i tried downloading iOS 9 just now and it downloaded at normal speed; around 17 minutes or so for a 1.84gb file. shouldn't that point towards the TM issue we all faced before or is it still related with my DNS?

okay i have followed the guide and have found the DNS setting and it seems that my setting is already set to 'Connect to DNS server automatically - Yes'. so should i change to the Google Public DNS or should i just wait it out?

^ Like I said earlier, I don't think it's a DNS issue.

It's the same issue we experienced at the beginning of this thread. You guys with Twitter accounts need to spam TM support channel. It seems the problems are intermittent. It was back to normal for me last night but a few minutes ago I tried to update Pocket and Scanbot (total 70+ MB) and it took almost 10 minutes.

As for which DNS server you have to use, that's entirely up to you. Since you already set the DNS manually on your desktops, then you can just leave the router as it is. You can also set Your preferred DNS on iOS devices if you want. That way the corrupt government cannot prevent you from reading Sarawak Report =P

yeah i've tried changing DNS and resetting it back to automatic; same results for both. for me it's severely slow. can't even download Whatsapp. we can't be the only ones facing this?

yeah i'm gonna ask my friends to help contact them via Twitter to try and get some numbers up on the complains. so before they or anyone else would ask regarding troubleshooting methods, i have done the following;

1. off and on router (off for a while, 5 minutes or so)
2. change DNS to 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 (in router setting)
3. i have restored my phone

i tried using DiGI LTE; no issues. i guess it's safe to say that we're facing the same issue we faced last month. and i'm back in the same situation as i was before; severely slow speeds right after restoring my phone. perfect. haih
