I have a WDTV which I use for MKV file playback, HD series passthru my amp straight to TV and HD movies playback via amp in DTS HD MA/Dolby TrueHD. Currently no problem with my WDTV but am interested to get this unit. Any reason on why I should upgrade or stick with my WDTV?
*
If your key objective merely watch movies from your harddisk then I will advise you stay with WDTV, except :

1). You want to watch movies which encoded in the new codec which not recognized by WDTV such as H.265.

2). You want to stream movies online from the net via Android streaming apps which not support in WDTV.

If you mean Kodi, that is not your mouse problem, just click home button on your remote and you could continue using the box. In the launcher page, you see the Rocket icon which help you to flush the memory used by Kodi.

If you not mean Kodi, pls pm me the detail.

A quick feedback from me on my H8 journey here ....

Past 15+ years using ASTXX.

Bought my H8 and after trying it out for about a month, cancelled ASTXX last month. Now on H8!

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly

GOOD
* much better choice and variety of TV shows, movies than ASTXX! Eg Adam Ruins Everything, concerts, etc. Watch what and when I want to!
* no problem with Korean, Taiwan TV shows for my wife
* no problem for my 3 kids watching their respective programs
* NICETY has been most helpful in sorting out my problems, even on the recent New Year day! He is there 24/7!
* NICETY has lots of updates in his Skydrive. Some good APK in there but only for NICETY's customers. Ha.

BAD
* my wife misses ASTRO's #306 Chinese news (better than Channel 7, 8 news)
* even with 2 GB and 16 GB hardware in H8, one will reach the limit for apk installation in no time! Unless one is very stringent in what one installs.
* annoying when one has to use mouse for certain add-on and apk, rather than just the remote. Wish one day, all add-ons and apks can be used with EITHER mouse OR remote.

UGLY
* being new to Android and Kodi, can be a nightmare for beginners like me while trying out things. E.g. installed iStream the other day thinking it was an add-on, it messes up the configuration I have set up in Kodi add-on. iStream is a build! Be ware! Need a quick lesson on terms like add-on, build, apk, etc, etc. Cannot undo with the above mistake. A pity! Have to re-install Kodi etc. NICETY has the 5 easy steps for this.
* Android has rather frequent version updates. Version 16 is coming soon. Resulting problem is having to re-install Kodi, add-ons, build, etc. Maybe there is a simpler way to save one's configurations (Kodi & apk) and reuse them after the Android update. Will find out later.

After going through this steep learning curve, would I still cancel my ASTXX and switch over to H8 if I could turn back time? YES! Lots more things to explore and enjoy! Get the TVBox with at least 2 GB to minimise annoying problems creeping up in your TV show/movie discovery!

Hook up H8 to AVR for better sound enjoyment while watching movies and concerts! Now I have a cinema in my house! Ha.

Cheerio.

P/S I am on Streamyx 8 Mbps and so far not much problems in streaming even when my kids are on wifi.

Yes, most of the Genesis HD content are broken. Same for SALT. Try other addons in Kodi or you can try the apps in my skydrive.

Thanks Nicety. Can you tell me which app will be good for English tv shows? Thanks

Thank you for the feedback bro. But the support not 24/7, need to eat and sleep biggrin.gif

I'm also generic users, I share what I have learned in the past to my customers in order to Optimise the box and apps functionality. Please bear with me if my response some slow.

Today received email from Netflix, the service already for Malaysia, no VPN require anymore. Will test it if the apps works well for Rickchip and HiSilicon Chipset.

Have already signed up with Netflix and tested on H8. No buffering, good picture quality etc etc. Only complaint is I cannot pause the movie. Once you start it, no more control. Ha. Maybe it is because I do not know how to do that.

Just signup the first free month with Netflix standard package, it works perfectly in both Q16, Q5 and H8 Octa Core. Please to be noted HD only available for standard package, basic package do not support HD.

Please to be noted, Netflix will start the movies with SD at the beginning and slowly increase the resolution to HD, it is handle automatically by Netflix.

Subtitle available for English, French and Chinese, but I did not see any Malay subtitle yet.

Just install the APK file start with 00-EN xxxxx.apk in my skydrive, you could find English tv shows from those apps.

Dear Customers,

The APK files in my skydrive has just recently restructure, where the file name indicate it is English apps or Chinese apps. File name start with 00-EN are primary apps that working fine and 01-EN indicate secondary apps, 99-EN are common tools such as ES Explorer, Backup tools and Browser.

Those APK file without the new naming convention are apps which not common use or obsoleted apps.

I thought I have tried the remote and mouse the other night. Will test it again the next time I use Netflix.

Give me a shout if you see some good movies/documentaries in Netflix! Thanks.

i just had a look at H8 1+8.
if i just want to watch online tv & movie, watch many of my offline movies (in external hdd), is H8 1+8 enough? i understand (may be wrong) that even the 2+16 has a bigger storage (16gb), it has been partitioned in such that user partition is quite small to install a lot of other apps. Not sure if pay more for 16gb is worth or not.
