Thanks for the infor on the 3 partitions.

AA
Possible to increase the 2 GB app partition to say 4 GB?

BB
Strange that this is Android architecture (in Window, one can install as many programs as one likes as long as the hd allows. Running the programs, however,  will be limited by the ROM).

Tried to delete some apps. Some successful and some not. There are some phone related apps in there. When I tried to uninstall, it does  not have this uninstall option. Only clear memory. Please advise on how to uninstall apps like this.

CC
Wonder what is the file partition for? So much free unused space there.

DD
With low memory space, this affects running Kobi, stuck here and there. How much free space should I aim for?

EE
Doing this updating has helped me in knowing more on Android and Kobi.

Discovered that there are some good apps ( Movie HD, Movie Tube, etc etc). Tried a few movies and I could watched them without any bad links rejection. In some ways, better than Kodi where at times, it is try, try and try. User interface is better in Kodi (nicer graphic), however.
Cheerio.

AA). The partition is fix in the factory, unable to increase.
P/S : pls don't install too many apps in the box, install only usable apps to avoid slow down. Some apps might cache in the memory when boot up.

BB). The same is in the Windows, the only different is most of the windows partition in single partition and typical PC has 300GB -500GB of harddisk space compare to 16GB flash memory in Android box. Those apps without "uninstall" are factory install apps, you can only uninstall the apps you installed.

Hints : some of the app has option "move to SD", goto settings - more - apps - sd card.

CC). File partition is emulated your SD card, you store movies, backup APK files and etc. if you use Popcorn Time or P2p streaming apps, this partition is very important for staging of large movie file.

DD). Already mentioned in the getting started guide, always remain 200MB space for Kodi.

EE). Yes, I agreed with you some apps are more user friendly then Kodi, that is the reason we share in the skydrive. But please use it low profile to avoid blocking by local ISP. I do not publish those apps openly due to this.

Many thanks once again for your reply.

Please suggest to Himedia to increase the 2GB to 8-10GB for future models. I know someone will fill up no matter how much space is there. But less people will be complaining and experiencing this problem. Ha.

Yes, saw the "move to SD card" option when I was trying to delete some apps. Will try this later.

I have about 170 MB free. Will try to delete some more apps.

Sorry for mentioning the good apps in your Skydrive. Those reading this, just delete that from your memory! Ha.

Cheerio.

H8 is Android 5.1. As per my understanding, myiptv only support Android 4.x and below, you only could opt for old android box with 4.x and below.

Unfortunately. we do may have old android box in stock anymore. Only latest model with android 5.1 available.

Thank you for information. I believe the myiptv will look into this issue and hopefully new apk will solve the problem. thumbup.gif

Yes, you are right. New android box come with Android 5.x, if myiptv would like to continue support the customers, they have to enhance the app to support latest Android version.

Hi,

Interested in the HIMEDIA H8 Octa Core 4K UHD (H8 2+16) by you
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3677149
but just want to clarify on a few pointers.

the Q5 uses a wrapper to use a different video player. Can the H8 do this as well without a wrapper, to play kodi using a different media player (e.g. MXPlayer android app when using kodi) ? And would that work with the add ons (specifically streaming video apps)

Because my intended usage will mostly be watching streaming via kodi addon. So not sure how compatible that is if i went with a Q5 over a H8 vice versa.
Then the other issue i heard, Q5 has to have wrapper enabled, or else the video quality will be bad, because the silicon chipset isn't supported by Kodi. But is the rockchip supported by Kodi, which is why it doesn't use a wrapper? Or what is the reason? And will this similarly have the effect of reducing video quality on H8 because it doesn't have a wrapper?

I would be inclined to go Q5, but i heard wrapper with kodi add on's won't work, so have to run 2 kodis, one with wrapper, and the other without :/ seems a bit complicated. Any comments on this?
*
Thank you for inquiry.

Wrapper is nothing much, just use the wrapper script to edit the playercorefactory.xml such that Kodi use HIMEDIA native player to play media file in Kodi instead of use Kodi player. We do not recommend to use Wrapper in the Kodi because some addon not compatible and end with "External Player..." error. As already mentioned in Q5 thread :
1). Use himedia native player to play offline media file from HDD or NAS.
2). Use Kodi Player when you stream from Kodi addons. Kodi player has its special feature and works well with Kodi addons.

H8 do not use Kodi wrapper, Kodi player works well in H8. However Himedia native player has more audio video codec, please use Himedia native player for offline media streaming as mentioned above. And do not use MX player in the Kodi, you will end with external player error. Kodi are well test in Kodi player by Kodi developer.

The last questioned already answered in the first paragraph. Always back to basic, don't go into complicated stuff.

okay so wrapper only best suited for nas/local playback. whereas no wrapper is better for stream app online.

so i wonder can the H8 do NAS playback from samba? Cause though i'd be using online app like ..... *cough  to stream, i also want to from time to time stream from my NAS DLNA samba over local router network to watch my own media i keep stored on raid hdd. Can H8 do that? or only the model that uses wrapper only can?
Also does the H8 support surround sound? because i got 5.1 surround system setup using yamaha avr  hmm.gif

sorry for many questions  smile.gif

Maybe you don't get me. Never use wrapper, Himedia box build in with native Himedia player, play offline streaming from local/NAS using Himedia native player(not wrapper).

When you stream Kodi addons, use Kodi player.

H8 support Samba, NFS, uPnP.

As mentioned in the thread, H8 support the below passthru to your AVR included 5.1 :

Audio codec : DTS, DOLBYDIGITAL PLUS, AC3 ( support DTS-HDMA passthru, Dolby TrueHD 7.1 passthru and ATMOS passthru )

thx for reply.

is there anything else recommended to get for this himedia device?  hmm.gif  is the default remote good enough to work with kodi? also do i need a keyboard?
*
Keyboard is not require unless you want to do heavy text input such as blogging or data entry.

It will be good to supplement with PC mouse which will help to navigate because some apps are designed for touch screen.

As per communicated with iflix, iflix only support tablet and smart phone only but not on android TV box.

HDTV and CloudTV iPTV are tested. MyIpTV not compatible because myIPTV do not support Android 5.x and above.

Ready stock, next business day dispatch. If you made payment today before 12 midnight, tomorrow morning dispatch.

Sorry bro, Miracast is not supported as mentioned in the thread.

Initially Q5, Q16 do support Miracast but has been removed due to Miracast stability.
