Calling the Cerato the most power 1.6l new car currently on the market makes me laugh.

I am well aware of power-to-wait ratios. Your statement is still dumb and out of context. Did the TS say he wants to take out the Cerato's engine and put it in his Scania truck? Or do you seriously think that the Cerato is too big a car for a 1.6L engine? If you think so, you are making a wrong assumption.

Pls enlighten me then on what 1.6L car is more powerful than the Cerato in the same segment? I would be happy to stand corrected. Context here is very important. I am talking about the car as it is against other cars available in the same segment.

You said all 1.6 na cars in Malaysia, didn't mention old or new car.

This topic is comparing cerato 1.6 to cerato 2.0.

And for new cars, I believe saga 1.6 is more powerful power to weight ratio wise.

Or how about we turn thing around, and ask yourself why other manufacturers that produce the same segment car yet mostly using 1.8?

Think off the most popular c segs sedans in bolehland, both altis and civic offers minimum 1.8

The Scania rhetoric is an exaggerated example to illustrate the factor of power-to-weight ratio.

Unfortunately, the only other 1.6NA C-segment in M'sia are Preve and Elantra, so that's not saying a lot. Other C-segments are at least 1.8l and above.

As mentioned above, in the same segment (C segment), it has one of the weakest engine.

Yea the 1.6l Gamma is one of the most powerful new 1.6NA engines in M'sia, but it means nothing when it is made to haul a heavy car. There is a reason why so few C-segments in M'sia uses a 1.6NA engine.

Notwithstanding the fact that you said "most powerful 1.6NA car" earlier, instead of "most powerful 1.6NA C-segment", Cerato is:

Most powerful C-segment - NO
Most powerful 1.6NA car - NO
Most powerful 1.6NA C-segment - YES

Let's face it, 130PS pushing 1.3 tonnes is nothing to shout about.

to be honest how bad is the 1.6? let say compare it with preve 1.6 NA, persona 1.6, or maybe we can pick vios 1.5 and honda city 1.5.
i never had an esp with 1.6 na..the only 1.6 i drive is prince thp which is out of the context.

Whether underpowered or not depends on the expectation of the driver. If 2.0L engine can power a D-segment car it should be possible for 1.6L engine to power a C-segment car comfortably. Of course some will say a 2.0L D-segment car is underpowered but buyers of these cars will disagree. Paper spec may not mean much when what's really important is the torque curve and not a single figure on paper.

a quick glance, Preve and Cerato is among the heaviest, both around 1300kg.

Given Preve have 107hp only, will make it the worst, 82hp per tonne.

Cerato : 100hp per tonne
City: 107hp per tonne
Vios: 97hp per tonne


On the other hand, some extreme examples:
Myvi : 109 hp per tonne
Fiesta EB : 110hp per tonne
Swift Sport: 122 hp per tonne

I think now most powerful 1.6NA new car you can buy in malaysia is probably suzuki swift sport which even have manual and 12k discount at the moment but it's not what we are discussing in this topic

yep..the car is a good example of fun without so much power.

No idea about the dashboard quality. At that price point and level of equipment I can't say there is much to complain about.

The 2.0 liter where it is price squarely in competition with the likes of Mazda3, Civic, Focus etc...suddenly it doesn't seem to be value for money like it's 1.6l sibling. Not to mention, when I enquired about it, they do not offer any bonuses ie free service for the 2.0l. It almost seems like Naza is not keen to sell the 2.0l Cerato.

For daily driving it is fine. I test drove the 1.6l Cerato in urban roads and I have no complaints.

My beef is with claims like below

1.6cc road tax rm90
2.0cc road tax rm 300+

2.0cc better more power
