alot of ahbeng and ahlian already moved out from bodohland, so sungei wang & bbplaza is dying a slow death.

Sungei Wang Plaza is so down because of no cinemas, no real renovations, no attractions and those shop lot rental is so freaking expensive leading to no crowd. The only good thing about Sungei Wang Plaza is the free toilet entries nothing more. sad.gif

One of the reasons Sungei Wang used to be popular is because the shops are selling cheaper, want a camera, PS2, electronic gadget? you will get some cheap deal here. But those are long past now the prices there is nothing special and you can find cheaper deals somewhere else.

Illegal operations are mostly closed down, such as pirated software and movies etc. Not that it will make much differences nowadays as internet has become so much faster. Cinemas closed down long ago in the 90s. But it was then supported by other entertainment activities such as arcade center, karaoke, skateboard etc. But those are gone now too.

It used to organize events regularly by inviting oversea up and coming singers to perform there, those have stopped too. Maybe too poor to pay or no longer has good connection.

As for eatery, there are so many different types of restaurants nowadays there are a lot more choices somewhere else.

And the people taste has changed, now most people want to be impressed by big and spacious megamall. In comparison, Sungei Wang looks like kampung variety mall already.

My fav shop was sun comics, always went there to buy comic/manga. Now read manga via online, but the feeling never the same as reading a comic book. Really missed it.

this too.

if you ever miss an issue, sun comics will have a spare...

i completed my manga collections mostly this way...

now all have been sold to new loving owners hopefully...

when i was 18 i worked at an office in Jalan Bukit Bintang. used to go Sg Wang for lunch. that food court with big windows that overlooks the whole main concourse area. without fail i will order something fr the malay food stall. nasi paprik was my fav.

sg wang was d place to buy street wear during my teens. so i went there often

played CS a few times in the CC in the higher floors of sg wang.

Before they renovated the place and Imbi plaza was the place for computers.

Now....pavillion is definitely better. kek

So much different. Just before BB Plaza closed, The place is totally full as usual. Thereafter.. totally different feeling....

It feels stuck in the eighties, its a good loation they just need to refurbish it. I used to go there to eat at the noodle house next to the main entrance, called super noodle house or something. Also like using the futsal court on the rooftop, playing futsal with view of twintowers thumbup.gif then go makan at the rooftop food court.
I still go to the sungei wang parkson mens section if I'm backin kl. Can find some good deals for clothes there.

Yeah I remember seeing PETRONAS towers developing step by step cause we used to futsal on the rooftop every week even when it rained.
Good times. The place changed a lot, not many locals now, mostly foreigners even the shop owners. Leading up to Chinese new year time was the most happening people packed everywhere. I think eighties to nineties was golden period for that mall, since 2000 slowly go downhill.

To everyone that does not know whats going on.

Sungai Wang was sold to Singaporeans long time ago.

https://arthurkwok.wordpress.com/2008/06/26...-kl-mall-stake/

The reason why a lot of empty lots in Sg Wang now is because of GST and high rental. No shop in the area can afford to pay GST by selling RM5-25 clothes. Once you reason the high rental there, even though they don't make money, LHDN will make you pay tax based on your ability to pay rental alone. That is why so many shops tapau. Soda Jeans managed only slightly 6 months after downsizing from 2 shops to 1 shops. All other RM5-25 clothes shops basically closed after chinese new year. The majority closed on GST month.

Some shops from BB Plaza moved to Times Square. Most closed for good. Like Metrojaya. The place is being redeveloped.

Times Square is now part owned by Johor Sultan.

http://www.thestar.com.my/Business/Busines...cash/?style=biz

Occupancy in Times Square is quite high. It is the new Sg Wang. It is also the new hang out for most of the rempit who used to hang out around outside McDonalds & Sg Wang. Their hangout now is outside the junction of Imbi plaza, Low Yat & Times Square bridge where there are food carts.

Precious time going there back in school days. took bus and hangout with friends there. bought a bunch of pc and ps1 games there. also love checking out the small shop underneath the escalator that sells japanese stuff like mange, anime and game soundtracks. i bought original chrono cross game soundtrack and a few game ost at that very shop. i wonder if it still exists there...

Some that have went to Sg Wang recently saw that the 6th floor half of it is gone. It has been taken up by a storage facility company.

That means next time KL ppl can store their junk excess junk there.

Although its true that Sungai Wang suffer from business drop, I dont think it changed much in term of the clothing that were on offer. I think nowadays branding play a big role when it comes to customer preference.

What did we bought back then? A RM50 Quiksilver or Billabong T-shirt. Is it original? Nobody cares... they sell like hot cakes. Now? Everyone looking at branding. Everyone would rather buy an heavily discounted authentic Padini or Renoma than a possibly fake Quiksilver/Billabong.

Since this year me and family celebrate in KL, me and wife purposely go lepak kl area. We thought to check out SG Wang to bring back some memory.

We parked at Lot10 and stroll around there before walking over sg Wang... As we step into the mall for the first time in more than 5 years, it looks pretty dull and lifeless. As we walk around reminiscent our old memory, we couldn't help but to feel sad with its current sorry state. Upper level floors seems mostly close now. Used to play arcade game there, now all gone d. Top floor mostly become either hobby shops or store.

Hopefully the management would do something to revive its glory days. BB Plaza is being developed into mix development now. Let's see if Sg. Wang will undergo some major renovation or not. With the mall competitions so intense these days, especially with BTS taking the crown from them in that area, they need to make changes quick.

It was the most happening mall in that area even in the early 2000. Still remember went for a massive New Year countdown with a lot of superstars invited... It was so freaking awesome with performances start as early as 5pm running all the way till midnight. MyFM always got event there. Now? sad.gif

I am surprise that BTS actually survived its early days slow start and surpassed Sg. Wang now... Constant improvement has drive them up the competition. Hoepfully SG wang management would do something about it soon.

There is no way sgwang can be revived.

Bts surpassed it in everyway. Including car park.

And there are simply oversupply of shop lots in the golden triangle after Bts opened up.

Not to mention people now can shop at other places like 1u midvalley sunway.

The real attraction of sg wang is nearby the lowyat plaza and those hobby shop in bts. Else i dont see the attraction point

BTS used to be shitty in the early days. It is not nice to shop in BTS coz its vertical up instead of horizontal wide. It has up to 10 levels and usually ppl dun wanna go all the way up when they shop...

However, it managed to hang on and redeem itself by constantly improving the structure, layout, and shopping experience. A big different when u have a rich management team in Berjaya Group.

The lala beng kind of shop made Sungai Wang interesting to visit. I still prefer that over Suria KLCC. All the jack sparrow cd, video game arcades, affordable food, next to lowyat plaza or imbi plaza. Of course that is before Time Square.

Cinema sucked though.

i used to travel to sg wang from kajang via ktm+ lrt and walking (no monorail back then).

they arguably had the best arcade in KL/selangor with many new game machines.

the place itself was packed with shops and people.

now.... the only time i go there is to walk pass it to go to lowyat or timesquare or some pavillion. timesquare arcade is thriving while sg wang has no more arcades if not mistaken.

i think malaysia got too many shopping malls at the moment. basically they just moving from one mall to another one. so the old ones affected or closed down.

It's called "Spinning", a roller skate activity with heavy music where you will sing "we will, we will... F*** U"... and a bunch of kids smoking like no body's business...

If I recall, entry fee was RM 3 during my time... those were the days...

Those days are over. Nowadays the console box too powerful arcades will never see the same heyday again. The computing technology and mobile technology has advanced too much that it has become disruptive technology to many industry, including bookstore, video rental, music shop etc etc. All those shops all closed down in these malls already.

Last time can easily buy a lot of cheap clothes and jeans for CNY now it seems that the price more or less same with others.

I only travel there for my hair cut once a month. Other than that it don't really impress me to shop there

Sad truth, it was more fun gathering as a community back then with real people. People waiting in turns chopping position by putting their coins at the side. Winner stay style n looking at high scores being over written or watching some epic battles happening. Even the ddr machine in sg wang is by no exceptions...

I believe the fall of sg wang i.e the current sad condition of sg started ever since they closed down bb plaza. Sg wang was still vibrant when bb plaza still around. But immediately after bb plaza closed sometime after 1st quarter or mid 2015, the whole sg wang suddenly so quiet.

I was stunned also because I was there just b4 the closure & a mth after closure, sg wang started to degrade

Seems to be that way, bad luck creeps from BB Plaza to the next building. When Sg Wang goes down maybe the bad luck will jump to either Imbi Plaza or LowYat or Lot 10.

*
Indeed. so many shop for rent signage there.

i used to travel to sg wang from kajang via ktm+ lrt and walking (no monorail back then).

they arguably had the best arcade in KL/selangor with many new game machines.

the place itself was packed with shops and people.

now.... the only time i go there is to walk pass it to go to lowyat or timesquare or some pavillion. timesquare arcade is thriving while sg wang has no more arcades if not mistaken.
*
sg wang still got arcade. but one shop only IIRC.

even timesquare punya arcade are worse lah these days. pyramid got better scene.

Those days are over. Nowadays the console box too powerful arcades will never see the same heyday again. The computing technology and mobile technology has advanced too much that it has become disruptive technology to many industry, including bookstore, video rental, music shop etc etc. All those shops all closed down in these malls already.
*
but IMHO some video games are best played at the arcades

like Initial D Arcade Stage 8

Used to work at sg wang padini shop about 10 years ago after my SPM. The place is so happening, very crowded. Tattoes shop, clothing shops, redbox karaoke, staff foodcourt at 4th floor. All kinds of events at the main stage. Cosplay shop. Handphone stalls. Kim Gary restaurant is so popular that time. Selfie/group selfie sticker machine. You can find all latest trend there.

I took it openly and he look at me and said "Eh, itu kasi nyorok2 jangan bagi orang nampak".

The whole trip back home felt so intense, It felt like I was holding onto a drug.

I know that building. Its by the corner of the cross section, one side facing Lot 10 and the other MCD/Giodarno sign bill board. Wasn't that HSBC before?
Now that area full of middle eastern restaurants.

rockfever was quite popular for a music game coz the buttons are symmetric, 3 on each side + 1 middle pedal. the pedal could be set to auto as well. nowadays ppl playing the "boob wobble/tap" game

Iirc, the outlet at Sg. Wang was called Sega Satellite, while at Sunway Pyramid was called Sega City (bigger).
In addition to the usual arcade machines, got Virtual Reality headsets/machines (forgot permanent or temporary, only tried once), the red almost full-sized car (what racing game was that already?), .... while at Sega City got the Mechwarrior machines/booth. Outside Sg. Wang, near main entrance, there was a similar full immersion game machine for a while, right?

Yeap, cheapest was ... err ... RM3 if buy in bulk of 10 DVDs. Got two bigger stalls at the back with more customers, coz their service were nicer n more knowledgeable about the games (one was a leng chai).

At first, I don't like Sg. Wang layout; if wanna go up or down a floor, gotta go all the way round ... then got used to the middle staircase near the back, faster, can go straight to the IT floor, when pass-by the magazine store sure browse for sold-for-cheaper-not-new gaming magazines.

SG WAng is Sega Satellite... was supposed to have all the latest SEGA arcade games,

Then Sega CITY which supposed to have all the larger game units...

Sega Universe/Planet was planned... it was supposed to be a theme park based on sega characters and games... but sega went bust before that happenned... not to mentioned that the sega satellite was filled with non sega games as other arcade center decided to pitch in on the high volume of arcaders that time.

now it's all gambling den.

I think that's not really the reason arcade dies....since late 90's to 2000's...consoles/pc got more powerful until it's more powerful than Arcade machines...there's reallly no reason for Arcade games anymore when everyone can play same or better at home. The only thing home can't replicate are those huge dedicated arcade box like racing, shooters etc....even today, there's still a small market for these.

heard from a friend who had inside story, there is a big corp currently acquiring most of the lots in sungei wang, but due to resistence of some shop owner, the project is not able to move on, so the big player started to play trick like pumping more bangla into the mall, stopping all renovation, closing down shop in order to pull down the market value and force the remaining owner to dispose their property so they can gain major ownership of the mall...well..not sure how true is this.

Pity whole area full of kids now...gangs of them. Try walking between lowyat, sungei wang and times square...not a nice experience. Hundreds of kids in gangs hanging around. By kids i mean teens.

Problem? Try the escalator up to times square when they are in front of you and behind you and you winder what they are upto.

Just creates a bad feel. Was there again yesterday and there was hundreds of them in sungei wang and outside. As a non malaysian i feel vulnerable carrying shopping around, cant be nice for women on her own or elderly.

Yeah not sure what you call them. They have roamed around the city centre...they used to be outside pavillions and now seems to have gone. Look like older school kids but to me they look a bit wild. Its just so many of them and always in big groups.
