Planning to do my oil hose replacement (the one announced some months ago by Proton).

Like to know from those who have done it, do they drain the oil, replace the hose and then top up with new oil?

If that is the case, then I will postpone it till my next car service.

Thanks.

Planning to install dual cameras for my Preve.

AA
Like Novatek dual camera. Any one here with good experience with Novatek?

BB
Need to drill a hole at the back for the rear camera? Appreciate those who have installed to show a photo of your installation. Like to know how to install the rear camera.

Thanks.

P/S Tried to visualise the mirror-camera in the car. Noted that the black cover on the windscreen for the wiper rain detection may be blocking the camera's view. Anyone has installed such camera and your way around this? Thanks.

If dvr, try look for novatek 96650 which support wdr instead of 96620.. 96650 Normally above rm250..
*
Many thanks.

Are you using 96650?

Reliable?

Does the black plastic cover on the wind screen gets in the way of the camera?

Appreciate if you could take a photo of the location of the camera. Want to get a better idea of where and how to install the rear camera.

Thanks.

P/S Checked 96650, not the type I want to get. See below. This clicks onto the mirror.

Yes. Perfectly.

Acceptable 17" tyre size is:
205/50/17
215/45/17
225/45/17

Any other, may cause problem when car is fully loaded, such as
215/50/17

Somehow tyre shop also may not be able to accurately tell, because I see some tyre shop recommending 215/50/17.
*
Will the more quiet tyres be at the expense of better traction with noisy tyres?

Thinking of trying the M tyres.

Some tyres are quiet and has good grip. Some tyres are noisy but have poor grip. Noisy tyres does not inheritably have good grip. So be wise in making your choice.

Going for Michelin PS3?

Thanks.

Had a look at M PS3 review, 81% of customers said will buy again! So must be good!

Will see if my budget cukup or not. Ha.

Want to install a rear camera for my Preve.

Need some help from car experts here.

Need to secure the camera above the number plate with the cable going inside the car. See the 2 photos.

AA
I do not want to drill too many holes. Thus want to know how to move the light section where I can use that for inserting the cable.

BB
If there is a better way to install the camera and insert the cable, please let me know.

Many thanks.

I think this socket is needed only if you want to connect a reverse camera to the existing HU as it itself is already reverse camera ready.  If you change to a new HU, it should come together with its own socket for the reverse camera.  However, you'll still need another socket to connect to the BOSCH / BLAUPUNKT plug on the PREVE unless you want to cut its original wires.  Do check with the installers as they can give the best advise.

Interesting.

Instead of the mirror screen, I can use the rear camera on the HU. Good.

Can someone show how to try this out with wiring sketch, camera to plug, plug to HU etc?

Many thanks.

Should be something like this...

Power line connect to solid ground (-) and reverse light (+).
Video line from camera to HU.

Had a look at how to open up the HU for the plug access. Too difficult for me, don't know where and how to start! Ha.

Sorry, I meant I don't even know how to remove the HU from the front panel. Ha.

Will check youtube for some examples.

P/S Found this on changing a CD player. Good and interesting. Panel removal should be similar. Looks rather simple now. For Preve, which is the first panel part to remove?

remove center panel (silver gear console - u shape) slowly..using small flat screw driver...careful with the plastic clips as it might fall down to gear console or it might breaks. then pull the center console (wood grain) and you can access the the hu unit. As im doing it long time ago, im not sure whether the right and left aircond panel blocking the center panel. If it is blocking you have to remove both of it as above.(use flat panel screw driver near the door and 2 screws under the meter panel). Careful with the clips some metal and some plastics.

There is some diagram on the internet (for preve hu) to tap the reverse /power up the camera (using small size clip eg old computer cd/sound card wire) just pnp no extra wire tapping required. Connect the camera rca cable to the available rca port and u are done.

Many many thanks! Will try to figure it out infront of the panel later.

So u have the newer Blaupunkt HU definitely better with the larger screen, and front cam can be useful at times. I'll stick with the Bosch for now since its compatible with reverse cam. Just read the HU manual. There's even a pic in the book showing the reverse cam installed. Price I paid for not reading.

Seems Plumberly is going DIY. I wish I knew how n save some money.

Here's the link to the Preve Bosch HU connector diagram if anyone's interested. Proton MC diagram

Thanks.

I bought one dual rear cam set. It goes to the mirror screen. Trying to decide whether I should wire the rear one to the HU.

Anyone here knows where can I store the video files in HU, how much GB, whether SD card is possible etc? Maybe better just set it up as original set. Ha.

Need some guidance from those who have done it or know how to do it.

I am planning to attach the rear camera with 2 screws above the license plate and with wire doing into the car as below.

Attached Image

Is there a better way to:
AA install the camera (glue?)
BB install the wire without drilling a new hole?

Many thanks.

Drill 2 small holes for the camera screw, and 1 bigger hole for the wire.
If you use the double sided tape, it won't last
*
Many thanks.

Mind taking a photo of the rear camera and the hole for the wire?

Just to give me a better idea.

They did it for you? How much?

On the 2 wires to the back light to activate the camera once it is in reverse gear, can connect to any of the 2 wires or have to follow some rules, red to blue etc etc?

Many thanks once again.

Hi Plumberly, my reverse cam was installed four years ago. The accessories shop guy stick the cam using a heavy duty double tape- the thick type - he said 3M n as of today haven't fallen off. Can't guarantee it won't fall of tomorrow hehe. The wire was routed grouch the car plate light. My cam was installed to the left.

[attachmentid=7298385]

Thanks.

Looks similar to what I have in mind.

On the car light route for the wire, did he drill a hole there? From my own car check, the bulb is inside a socket and the whole thing sits in the hole. leaving no more space for the cam wire.

Can you show a close up pic of the wire going into the car?

Sorry to trouble you all on this issue. Good to know there are many helpful friends in this Lowyat world, able and willing to help others. Much appreciated.

P/S On double sided tapes, my car plate came off twice, put together by my car dealer. 2nd time was done at a car repair shop!. They used the wrong tape? Well, I did it myself after the 2nd fall-out. I bought one, red in color, no brand. I think it is a case of using the right tape and also knowing how to tape it there. The plate and the car wall are not flat but with holes and depressed areas. So need to put the tapes where both sides will come into contact. My own DIY repair has lasted for about 2 years now. Ha.

Initially the guy routed the cable behind the plastic horizontal bar on the boot causing the bar to bulge a bit. The dealer who sold me the car saw it n say cannot later the bar permanently bengkok. Then the guy routed it through the light enclosure. I specifically told him not to drill any holes. From the pic u can see he just squeezed the cable through the slit beside the light socket.

For the double taping, yes, screws are probably the best solution. I sayang my car so I really don't want holes on my car's body. I'm no expert but from what I saw before taping the guy prep the area with something called "primer". They use the same stuff when installing the body kits on my car. Could be something to clean the area so the tape stick better. Perhaps the more experienced forumers here can answer.[attachmentid=7300665]

Many thanks. You made my day! Now the pieces are coming together!

No hole! Then no problem with the 5 yrs warranty, I hope.

I am waiting for Proton's reply on the rear camera & warranty.

P/S With the wire so close to the light bulb, I assume no heating problem as you have been using this for the past few years. No burnt mark on the wire, I hope.

No problem u r welcome.

I think the plastic enclosure should contain most heat coming from the bulb. The cam is still functioning properly as of one year ago - my mirror lcd rosak, which is why I start asking questions about installing new HU. If I remember correctly a friend's car was installed this way too no drill no hole so the cable can only come out through the hole for the plate light.

Good and bad news on my query to Proton on the rear camera.

Good
They replied within 12 hrs!

Bad
They quoted parts 2.1.4 & 2.5.5 of the warranty in the service booklet.

Part 2.1.4 is rather vague BUT with a very wide coverage. I.e. modification, alteration, tempering, disconnection of wiring or components .....

Is installing the front, rear cameras and the mirror screen without any screwing and no drilling hole consider as modification, alteration?

Then I wonder whether putting on the sunscreen/shade on the window on a sunny day is also considered as a modification/alteration!

Will ask again this time stating using sticky tape on the camera and no hole drilling will void the warranty or not. Insist on a straight yes or no answer instead of leaving that for me to interpret and decide.

I can see the need to control car modifications for their warranty coverage but their definition of modification, alteration etc are not clearly stated.

Hope for a smooth landing on this.

Another option is to let the wire go over the cover edge with no drilling. Closing the cover will not damage the wire as there is the black cushion on the cover edge. However, this will look ugly to some.

Thanks to all for your help and input!

Any duty charges?

Lazada has before some models, but now all sold.
*
While I have not bought an HU, my wife and I have each bought something from Japan, USA etc.

Custom rule is import tax (10 or 20%) if the value is >RM200 (if my memory is right).

Then plus 6% GST!

I just bought some RAM modules from HK, delivery is pretty fast and no import tax due to the small value.

The duty rate is dependent on the tariff code of the item.

RAM modules have no duty (0%), and Customs usually will impose GST on item worth more than RM500. Some times, they just close one eye. I once bought a model kit worth more than 1k but they just let the item go without GST.
*
Yes, 101% right on the duty rate and type of product.

See link below we have used before.

http://www.dutycalculator.com/new-import-d...ax-calculation/

My tel conversation with the custom officer here about a year ago says it is taxable if product is >RM200 and rate depends on the type of product.

My wife got some earrings from japan recently and paid some tax and GST though the price is about RM400 only.

Yes, some custom officers are nicer and let it go!

Some tricks may be to ask the supplier to state a different value or as a gift. devil.gif rclxm9.gif

Need advice on how to test the ESC (electronic stability control).

Some background.

Since I got my Preve 2 years ago, I got the ESC alarm (non blinking - meaning something is faulty). My SC has tried to fix it at least 3 times, also with the computer download and adjusting the steering wheel.

On one stretch of road out of town (fairly straight and even), about 80% of the time I will get the ESC non blinking light. It is so regular that I thought maybe there is something underneath that road to trigger that alarm! Magnets?

But today and last week, I went through that road and no more ESC non blinking alarm! Maybe they have finally fixed the problem though straight after they adjusted something there, I still got the alarm.

I would like to test drive till I get the ESC blinking light (meaning ESC is active). Of course, do it safely. Any tested and safe ways?

Thanks.

IF you want to test the limits of the car by triggering the ESC lights in a safe way, the recommendation is not to do it on public roads but in a closed track where driving is controlled.

A friend is promoting a Defensive Driving Course (DDC) Level 1 at Shah Alam on October. If you are interested I will post the contact here so that you can find out. The course is much more than triggering the ESC.

I will be going for a family holiday next week.

With my old Wira in the past, I disconnected the power cable from the battery. But with Preve, asking myself whether I should do the same or not.

I prefer to switch on car security system when I am away on the 1 week holiday.

Fear the 2 yrs old battery may go flat on my return, I will not be able to open the door etc.

Like to have feedback from those with ~ 2 yrs old Preve on leaving the battery connected while on holiday.

Thanks.

P/S Manual says disconnect the battery if the car will not be used for a long period. But how long is long period?
