Hi guys,

Is it worth to buy used polo hatchback (2014-2016) for daily commmute?

Perhaps for less than 30km per day, with KL jammed or less than 5km per day

Is there any common known problem for this model?

If you're looking for an affordable car for short travels, you can consider an Axia or Saga. Any reason you're looking for VW instead?

sorry didnt notice.

i think at the end of the day if u r looking for good cust service and reliability VW is not the car you wanna own

reliability wise, no comment as so far in my opinion is working fine. those stuff that i encountered i would say petty things that not going to cause to breakdown in the middle of road. claimed under warranty and no money unnecessarily burnt here.

customer service, in my personal opinion, it's good (so far). these people are humans, so sometimes it depends on how does people interact with them.
used to deal with Suzuki service center, Hyundai Sime Darby service center, Ford Sime Darby service center, all were in-general pleasant experience. all these brand in general have pretty bad feedback from Malaysian.
at least whatever (for all these sc including VW) request, complaint or nit picking (especially for VW), they attended my request well.

for my B8, i changed to Varta battery outside, unfortunately ngam2, 1 year (mere 25k mileage) it dies on me (despite im using Varta Silver Dynamic AGM which should be good for 2-3 years as stock EFB banner battery in B8 last for 45k/1year10months), the seller claim due to my car alternator issue, i brought back the car to SC and asked them to check and share some report so that i can counter back to the battery seller. they attended well without cost.

above just 1 example out few. so, the message is, for me, whatever people perspective or impression for certain brand (regardless of brand), i just take it as FYI and reference but didnt put much weight on it (unless catastrophic cases and case by case situation) as my past experience with all these problematic or unimpressive customer service from other people's input does not translate to my own personal experience. =)

just enjoy the car, cheers. smile.gif

Nope, that 1.6NA variant is actually modified Indian car, most parts coming from India and accessories very fragile. ECU bracket, steering rack noise, radiator fan overheat and stopped working are few common seen from the club and my own experience.

If you would like to experience "real" VW driving dynamics, suggest to look for Jetta and above range. I would say my Polo Sedan drive like Toyota Vios with slightly better stability only. But cornering and handling it's not up to my expectation tbh.

I'm still for their feedback. After I shared the VW SC alternator test results, they requested to take back their battery for their lab test. 2 weeks plus just passed. Plan to follow up on next week.
In the meantime I had bought Hella AGM. Hopefully meet expectations.

For Varta, as noticed many positive reviews, perhaps just unlucky. They mentioned if due to battery after their lab test, they mentioned will replace it.

Personally if MYR 1k battery only last 1 year with 20-25k mileage, that's below than good. Anyway, their rep here friendly and professional, attended my complaint in good way.

Your right that it depends on case to case. but in general if its 5 ppl of 10 complain.. then .....

That said, Im still enjoying my vento, year 2... so far Im enjoying driving it every day. Friends always say "I heard got many problems", "very expensive". Just recently a new acquaintance asked me, "hows the maintenance, heard very expensive". I just shrug and smile. My experience may differ from others.

My friend got this list of pre-reg VW cars from a salesman in VW puchong.. In my case I got the Passat for about RM163k (discounted about 30k); registered in April 2019 with 2k mileage. Warranty still intact with VW.

Sorry which model is this? is it dry clutch? (cant comment on dry, since mine is wet).

As for polish/wax....just go with basic clay/polish/wax and then maintain it with regular wash and wax spray top-ups
