QUOTE(kcmy @ May 22 2013, 11:15 PM) license officially? u mean the right to use the name and colors of football clubs? yes, they did get the license, its that the jerseys are too small to put in any markings. actually u can buy teams like Liverpool, Man U, and even Blackpool separately other than those that comes with the set tat u bought. and yes, names like Liverpool, Manchester United were printed on the box. and they also comes in 2nd and 3rd strip in case everyone is a supporter of a certain team so when u play each other u guys can use alternate colors I saw a set the other day, IIRC it was Liverpool and/or Chelsea. RM75!

Borders sells the box set as well as individual teams. Yeah I think its RM75 per team. I still have my 1994 set with ptch, fences, footballs, score board, corner kickers, throw in men and 3 teams. However the current pitch and players are totally different from the old editions so I wonder how if it affects control.

QUOTE(dano @ Oct 22 2013, 09:50 AM) I first played Subbuteo in late 70s (yeah old dude here but young at heart). There were about 10 of us and we had our own English League with each 'managing' his own fave club. We had loads of fun for about 5 years until one by one moved away to college, etc. I did buy the 1994 USA edition and got a few friends to play. IMO Subbuteo did not take off here cos you need space to play the game. Malaysian homes tend to lack space unlike the West where average house is spacious. yeah, also u have to have a table big enough to lay out the pitch (preferably dining table) but as families getting smaller nowadays so do the dinner tables...

I wonder if it will last as I was at Borders @ Curve last Friday and they've removed Subbuteo from display and replacing with Star Wars game and such. Here's an event that took place 2 weeks back - there may be hope yet for Malaysia to finally embrace Subbuteo. http://waspa-circuit.blogspot.com/2013/12/...n-malaysia.html Hartamas Subbuteo Club also posted this on lowyat.net on November 20 - https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3028500This post has been edited by dano: Dec 18 2013, 09:36 PM

If any of you are interested, Hamleys MY, located in the new wing at OneU are having a Subbuteo introduction or "training session"; their actual post from their fB page states: "Calling all Subbuteo "veterans"! Come and enjoy our Match Day Fun and let your young ones join our "training sessions" and learn to play the game you grew up with. #hamleys #subbuteo " It says the session is from 12-6 pm and even a promise of a mini tournament

Hamleys Subbuteo update: Well, if anyone turned up for the Hamleys Subbuteo promo today, it was a good one but you had to go right on inside the store to find them. There were two excellent pitches set-up courtesy of the Hartamas Subbuteo Club and of course the game drew up a lot of interest. One little boy who i played with liked the game very much but was rather shocked by the cost of the starter set - The Club edition. So the only chance these kids can play is if stores like Hamleys are willing to support such sessions. My son also finally got to experience playing on a better surface than his bedroom floor which really helps to enhance the playing experience. I have not played since the early 80's (mucking around with my son doesn't really count as playing ) but trying it out again on that superb pitch really brought back some wonderful memories for me. Now to find that old box of mine with my Subbuteo stuff from the late 70's e For more info on Subbuteo just look up the Subbuteo Malaysia facebook page that someone had posted up the link in an earlier reply. Here is hoping that Subbuteo gets to take off again here in MY.

Most doesnt quite understand the rules of the game and most just baulk at the expensive price of a starter set. Anyhow, thanks for the update on the Subbuteo scene bro

I visited Hamley's this afternoon but the pitches were removed. The club team set sells for RM69 - packaging is not the same as ones at Borders though.

The pitches were not Hamleys, that was from the Hartamas Subbuteo Club. The Club has 6 of those pitches. Awesome playing surfaces! They were there to demo the game. As for the packaging they are indeed two brands as kcmy mentioned - there is the official Subbuteo teams and then there is the other popular brand of Subbuteo-type teams called Zeugo. Subbuteo teams are going for RM69 and Zeugo when i got them from Times was RM75. Figures are noticeably different with surprisingly the Zeugo figures being more like the old Subbuteo figures i grew up with c.1978! They looked much sturdier. If i can remember how to post pix up in the threads i will put up some pix later on.

Oh I get it now. Zeugo men has a flatter base compared to Subbuteo men which is 'deeper' - making it good for curling the player. I didnt have the Zeugo back in 70s and 80s so I cant say if I'll like it over Subbuteo's.
