don't think you can find the new Subbuteo sets here in MY, i picked up a set and some accessories when i was down in Singapore.
If you have the old 70's sets with the plastic figures you might not like the new photo image type 2D players they use now.

wow, that's a name i haven't heard for ages - Kathy Toys! The Weld branch was where i got most of my stuff as well as MetroJaya i think.

I got my first set in 1978 and i remember we had a Subbuteo tournament in our school - i think 4 or 5 of us had our own sets and between my neighbours we had many a competition.

Thankfully my mum didnt throw away my sets when i went to college but she threw away a lot of my other stuff. Now they are stored neatly in a box in some cupboard. Your pix makes me want to go open up the box and give them a flick around. I bought the sets from SIN as i didnt want my 8 yr old to be playing with my "classic" set so he has his own set to play but unfortunately he prefers his PSP FIFA11 to Subbuteo!

It was the best table football game ever. My neighbour had the Rugby set and now i regret not getting the Cricket set but in 78 i hadnt a clue how to play the game but in 2011 i find myself watching the ICC World Cup and it looks likely that India is going to beat Sri Lankans

Wonder if this new improved set will be available here in Malaysia?

well, guys the good news is that the newly launched Subbuteo has hit our shores. Yay! the bad news however is that it's now made by Hasbro. If any of you collect Hasbro stuff you will know what to expect, which isn't very much. i was hoping a British or European company would have taken it over since Subbuteo really fared well in Europe, so we shall see what Hasbro has in store for us.

Currentlg you can see the game and some of the accessories in either Borders (Gardens) or Times (Pavilion) - those are the only two places i have seen them although i was told there was a demo of the game in Bangsar Village a couple of weeks back.

The other bad news is the pricing, i can't remember the original 70's pricing but then as it is now it isn't cheap. RM250 for the basic starter set - 2 teams, pitch, balls and goal posts. Additional teams are RM75 a pop! But so far i haven't seen any of the EPL teams although they are selling an all white strip team which can be modded i suppose.

Wanna join the subbuteo club if there is one.

i don't think there is one around now but if you Google you will find the Malaysian rep is in Kuching somewhere.

Must figure out which of the Local Games Stores are keen on plugging the game so i can try out the new version. From what i heard there is a big difference between the ori version and the one from a few years back to this one.

If you don't buy the starter set how are you going to play the game? i would much rather get my own set and control my own destiny than to always have to rely on someone else for a game.

Actually guys, there is a move to reintroduce Subbuteo back to our living rooms again.

Imagine Games and the guy behind them are bringing them in and i was last told that he is trying to restart the passion again.

There are a few things planned and even talk of the possibility of a league even.

If you go to Times (Bangsar or Pavilion) you will see the official Subbuteo (not the Zeugo ones mind you) teams for LFC, CFC and QPR. Odd selection but if you are fans of those teams you have to get them.

Will update you guys on this thread if i hear more ......

If any of you are interested, Hamleys MY, located in the new wing at OneU are having a Subbuteo introduction or "training session"; their actual post from their fB page states:

"Calling all Subbuteo "veterans"!
Come and enjoy our Match Day Fun and let your young ones join our "training sessions" and learn to play the game you grew up with.
#hamleys #subbuteo "

It says the session is from 12-6 pm and even a promise of a mini tournament drool.gif

Hamleys Subbuteo update:

Well, if anyone turned up for the Hamleys Subbuteo promo today, it was a good one but you had to go right on inside the store to find them.

There were two excellent pitches set-up courtesy of the Hartamas Subbuteo Club and of course the game drew up a lot of interest. One little boy who i played with liked the game very much but was rather shocked by the cost of the starter set - The Club edition. So the only chance these kids can play is if stores like Hamleys are willing to support such sessions. My son also finally got to experience playing on a better surface than his bedroom floor which really helps to enhance the playing experience.

I have not played since the early 80's (mucking around with my son doesn't really count as playing tongue.gif ) but trying it out again on that superb pitch really brought back some wonderful memories for me. smile.gif

Now to find that old box of mine with my Subbuteo stuff from the late 70's e hmm.gif

For more info on Subbuteo just look up the Subbuteo Malaysia facebook page that someone had posted up the link in an earlier reply.

Here is hoping that Subbuteo gets to take off again here in MY.

I visited Hamley's this afternoon but the pitches were removed. The club team set sells for RM69 - packaging is not the same as ones at Borders though.

The pitches were not Hamleys, that was from the Hartamas Subbuteo Club. The Club has 6 of those pitches. Awesome playing surfaces! drool.gif They were there to demo the game.

As for the packaging they are indeed two brands as kcmy mentioned - there is the official Subbuteo teams and then there is the other popular brand of Subbuteo-type teams called Zeugo. Subbuteo teams are going for RM69 and Zeugo when i got them from Times was RM75. Figures are noticeably different with surprisingly the Zeugo figures being more like the old Subbuteo figures i grew up with c.1978! They looked much sturdier. If i can remember how to post pix up in the threads i will put up some pix later on.

fess66, thanks for posting pics. The new pitch must be much better than the old cloth ones.
*
Actually, i will have to compare it again but i think they might be the same or maybe the material maybe slightly different. The trick is the laying of the pitch which is quite difficult to do when you mount it. The Hartamas pitches were made by a frame maker in TTDI, who must be quite an expert as i have seen his handiwork up close.

There are big things in store for the Subbuteo scene here in MY.

If there are any "veterans" out there who want to rekindle their childhood, why not join in. The Club could do with more vets

More updates on the MY Subbuteo scene courtesy of the Hartamas Tigers:

First up, we had Den Mulia, described as one of Asia's best Subbuteo players. rclxms.gif He came to the club and shared some tips with the youngsters as well as the veterans. He is a great guy and a very good ambassador for the game as a whole.

kcmy, i need your help here, would you know how to add a picture to main thread page, i believe you had started up the thread, so would you know how to go about doing this?

This thread needs a catchy pixture to turn heads and there is nothing more striking than a Subbuteo player on green baize cloth pitch!
