the cheapest AF-S prime is indeed the 105VR...

and one can't compare the 105VR with the crappy tamron 90.
ok, it's not crappy but it's ... sigh

Not only is the 105VR the cheapest AF-S prime, its also the cheapest pro-level (gold ring) lens.

The Tamron SP90 has optics, as good as the 105VR or maybe even better, but the mechanical quality is light years away from the Nikkor.

Non-obvious disadvantages of the Nikkor:
- heavy, nearly 800g compared to the SP90
- the focus ring is wide, a bit too wide, accidental focus shifts possible

u guys agree the launch of D40x will affect the D40 2nd hand price few months from now? coz buyer will look for D40x rather than D40...

just my 2cents..

will nikon produce 50mm f1.8 prime lens for AF-S?? would it be pain of a$$ if doing manual focusing with AF 50mm?? read thru that it is a good lens..cost RM300++ only right?

now still considering whether want a D40 or EOS350D

oi..dun poison me with VR la.. yesterday went to shop ask around RM1.5k right? i think normal AF-S 55-200 shud be enough.

How about 70-200mm?? The price is around RM800++ only..

so will they produce 50mm for AF-S?

yah, thinking to join the dark side still considering want to buy the nonac 350D or not....those lens put very high damage to me..

budget problem la..if no budget straight D80 liao..how much D70 btw?

now those that fall inside my budget are D40, D50 and 350D but D50 can't find oledi. if D40 have to settle with AF-S lens and manual focus 50mm prime lens oledi

you can consider sigma 30mm f/1.4 HSM but not that "cheap"

go for D40.. or if u can get D50

any personal experience that can poison convince me?

im oredy pening. so many lenses u guys talking about. which is the cheapest dat can fit into d40, either VR or not. anyone?

the question u should ask is not what lens can fit, but most importantly is what lens can auto-focus on D40. just stick with the kit lens & don't worry about lens for now, later on you can add the cheapest VR lens 55-200mm (USD250) when it's available

yah, cost around 2k..just now go vladmir shop play around with this prime lens, dam bright

if wan zoom and AF, 55-200mm is the cheapest, RM700-800, but no VR.

U might consider the 50mm f1.8 prime lens too that every Nikon owner have but it can't AF with D40. But just now i try with it with D40, really not hard to focus manually since the range is not big and im a noob too

agree, sooner Nikon will come with more AF-S lineup i think...and ur wallet will become thinner i think
