you can consider sigma 30mm f/1.4 HSM but not that "cheap"
*
yah, cost around 2k..just now go vladmir shop play around with this prime lens, dam bright blink.gif

QUOTE(shiinkuro31 @ Mar 10 2007, 04:41 PM)
im oredy pening. so many lenses u guys talking about. which is the cheapest dat can fit into d40, either VR or not. anyone?
*
if wan zoom and AF, 55-200mm is the cheapest, RM700-800, but no VR.

U might consider the 50mm f1.8 prime lens too that every Nikon owner have but it can't AF with D40. But just now i try with it with D40, really not hard to focus manually since the range is not big and im a noob too

QUOTE(ajay67 @ Mar 10 2007, 07:03 PM)
the question u should ask is not what lens can fit, but most importantly is what lens can auto-focus on D40. just stick with the kit lens & don't worry about lens for now, later on you can add the cheapest VR lens 55-200mm (USD250) when it's available
*
agree, sooner Nikon will come with more AF-S lineup i think...and ur wallet will become thinner i think sweat.gif

Added on March 10, 2007, 11:06 pmCan i know D40 set now mostly manufactured where? Thailand or Japan? How about the lens?

1) just has a on/off button
2) cannot be used as remote
3) only can turn 90 degree
*
1) means no manual exposure right?
2) D40 dun have remote function right? i thought i read it somewhere.

To be honest I like to use manual focus sometimes especially when trying to take shots to show the DoF because sometimes its hard to just use auto focus to focus on certain areas of the picture.

My dad had an old 90-300mm lens so I was using manual focus on that. How much did you get your 50mm lens for?
*
There is some nice senior here borrow me fro training purpose, if i feel i can handle it right, i will purchase it. The new price for it is around RM380.

I found it not really hard to manual focusing even during night since it is not a zoom lens.

but lol, isn't it hard to focus on tha 90-300mm?

Yes extremely difficulty plus the lens is also heavy so balancing it and manually focusing while trying to keep still is a skill in itself. Started to do a bit more weights in the gym so I can be more still with the camera tongue.gif

RM380, I got that price from some shops but I am still looking around for a cheaper shop, have yet to try out Boeing in Sungai Wang but I might head over there this weekend.
*
lol, the balancing part that i scare i'll screw up when pressing the shutter. i think manual focus on that lens only able to done perfectly on a tripod, at least for me..lol

this is the cheapest i can get in penang here. not sure about KL..let me know if u able to get a good deal.

QUOTE(Evirober @ Mar 15 2007, 11:38 AM)
harrychoo: You manual focus till u get the green dot or just snap by hunch ?

Care to share some experimental pics you took ?? D40 + 50mm f/1.8
*
Both, i make sure the subject is sharp in focus as well as the green dot blink to double confirm.

Well, i just got my hand into it yesterday so i only play around with the DOF inside my room tongue.gif maybe 1 or 2 weeks later so i can go to outdoor to have some shootings.
